I wouldn't buy one of the MacBook "Pro" over the unibody system I have now.
As I posted in another thread, I spent a good amount of time playing with the new "Pros" and I'm very unimpressed, considering all the noise thats being made about the new screens. I have one of the original LG screens and, in comparison to the new 13.3" and 15.4" systems I played with, the "upgrade" is being greatly exaggerated. When properly calibrated, the screens look almost exactly the same minus the exception that the new one has the color saturation turned up ever so slightly.
As for the other features..
Firewire? Why? If you're going to redesign the motherboard for new ports, let's take that extra space that Firewire now occupies, take out the mini-DisplayPort, and put in HDMI! Give one regular USB port and one combined USB/eSATA.
Also, why only SD? And is Apple going to be like other PC manufacturers and release a nice flow of firmware updates to keep up with revised SDHC cards and increase compatibility with the higher capacity cards? I doubt it, because we all know how Apple HATES to give away free "new features".
Integrated battery? No thank you. Sure it lasts a tiny bit longer in real world. But I don't want to be tied into taking the system into Apple or sending it away for a replacement. Plus being able to swap out batteries gives me more overall battery life. Look at my HP for instance. With 2 batteries I can push 10 hours of battery life, and thats WITH dedicated graphics and a 15.4" CCFL backlit screen, as well as the older generation Core 2 Duo and more energy hungry DDR2 RAM.
Overall, the new MacBook "Pro" is a big overall downgrade. I also can't help but laugh at the fact that only Apple could get away with selling a $1700 15.4" system with integrated graphics. Do you know how cheap a PC with the same specs as the entry MacBook Pro goes for? About $1,000 less. And good luck finding a 15.4" PC that ships with ONLY 256MB of dedicated video memory for under $800.
