After a week with the iPhone 6, I'm going to say the 5S was hands down a better built phone and much better looking phone. The past week I've felt nothing but regret about selling my 5S. Live and learn though!

I've still got my 5 and am feeling a lot like you. Going to give it a few more days but might switch back. As to the above commenter I completely agree I don't think I've ever been more excited for a product than when they announced the slate/black 5.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels like this!

Maybe for the 6S they will bring back slate but I doubt it.

----------

A bit of an exaggeration as even the 5s looks quite generic in Space Gray. If the 6 were available in Black & Slate (and they made the antenna bands a bit thinner), people would be all over it as the best looking iPhone ever.

I agree 100%. My 5 even has some wear on the back and it just makes it look even more refined in my opinion!

The 5S is hands down the better design.

The 6 is good and all, but the 5 will go down as one of the better Apple designs. Period.

I remember when I brought home my black/slate 5, my son was looking at it in awe and said "how beautiful" it was. It really is a work of art. I still love it!!

I also think the 4/4S have been the most classy and premium looking design to date. I would also put the 5 ahead of the 6 because I like clean designs and while I can live with them the protruding camera and the antenna bands look quite bad to me on the 6 (and the design more boring in general).

My ranking across generations (OK, nostalgia my play some part in how I ranked the original iPhone :)):

iPhone 4 > original iPhone > iPhone 5 > iPhone 6 > iPhone 3G

Cross the 4/4s with the 6. Gorgeous.

With the thickness of a i5, or even the i4. That would have been the phone for me. In slate.

A lot of people have spent hundreds of dollars over the past couple of weeks to buy brand new phones. If the forum accepts that an older phone is sexier, it is like raining on the parade of the new buyers. There are so many posts from people looking for reaffirmation of either the 6 or 6+ purchase. So, please keep that sensitivity in mind before declaring that you like older hardware. People have agonizing choices to make between the 6 and 6+ as is, let us not pile it on anymore.

I liked the 5's look, but the edges were so sharp you could cut a steak with it. It wasn't comfortable to hold very long un-cased.

If you don't think the black/slate iphone 5/5s is sexy I would say the same about you ;)

I've been contemplating returning the 6 for a 5s. I needed to upgrade mostly because my 5 is a 16gb. Thinking about getting the 64GB 5S. I've only had the 6 for two days though. Might give it some more time.

dont do it. you're going backwards.

I just bought a iphone 6 full retail since I'm still grandfathered in to Verizon's unlimited. I previously had an iPhone 5. I love the screen size of the 6 and the speed but I can't help but think the build quality isn't near as sleek or sexy as my 5. The black and slate, corners, bezel etc. The 6 feels cheaper.

no bc mine had scuffgate..paint chipping off all over the slate backing

I don't like rounded phones.

But I liked the complex surface of an Xperia I had.

And the 4S was more linear than rounded.

However, sharp corners might not be practical (I want to see what happens with people using the Passport).

And I am one of those people who vacillated between 6 vs 6+, silver vs space gray and 16 vs 16 GB. I made my decision based on my needs and am happy with it. However I enjoy reading the opinions of others including those who prefer a previous generation iPhone. I loved my iPhone 5 which I still have and there was a lot to be said for the design and smaller more convenient size. People should be free to express their opinions here
without worrying about the "agonizing choices" of others going on. Perhaps your comments were meant to be facetious and in that case I apologize.

Conversely, the round of new buyers showing up and declaring that the 6 and 6+ are far superior and better phones to the older phones is like raining on the parade of current iPhone users.

If we are going to be sensitive to the fragile egos of new buyers seeking anonymous affirmation of a choice, then those buyers should in turn be sensitive to the fragile egos of current owners.

Quite frankly though I am not going to participate in that. I made a choice in 2012. I like my choice. I don't need anyone telling me my choice was a good one and that isn't why I'm here. I don't begrudge anyone else their choice, but I'm not going to coddle anyone either.

My opinion shouldn't matter to anyone else in regards to what THEY like and what THEY want. Get what YOU want, get what YOU care about.

all for the low price of $1200. Serious question, what are the benefits of liquid metal?

In the render I posted, I do not like the lack of side bezels.

As with technology, it'll be cheaper in two years time.

Various benefits with liquidmetal. Off the top of my head, scratch resistance and extremely durable (it'll bounce off the ground like a basketball).

That right there is precisely one of the reasons I like my iPhone 5 so much. I don't use cases and for me it's very comfortable to hold.

I think the 5/5s are the best looking iPhones. The 6 doesn't have that same premium look to it; it's more like an android phone in my opinion.

That said I still did pre-order a 6 plus.

That was my impression of the 6, that it looks like and Android phone. Guess I'll keep rocking the 5 :D

Mine did not, except for the parts I caused myself. One edge worn away (paint) because of where I chose to leave the phone all the time in my car while driving. Nicks because of dropping it.

None of that because of poor design. My new iPhone 5 is perfect and I'm not keeping it in the same place in my car.

no the 6 feels better in the hand. Sure all the 6's are a bit ugly but the ergonomics of the thing are way beyond the 5. Handling, rotating, in pocket feel, the list goes on. The 6 is just a better design on so many levels.
