my white macbook has been very loyal to me for the last 3 years. never given me any major headaches & has performed as promised. thank you Apple for such a wonderful product. ;):):)

It will have to go but probably around the end of the year. It looks really old next to the aluminum macbooks.

no. it won't "have to go" but it could reduce hardware quality (or perhaps say the same while the unibodies are upgraded) - so it can take a pay cut. i think they discontinue it - then they will have to have a new line come out.

if they keep it i think they will make it much cheaper

It will be discontinued without a doubt. Just as soon as they run out of stock, I'm almost positive they aren't making them anymore. And if they are, it's just a matter of time before they stop. It would be like a car company producing an 08 and 09 model indefinitely. Really? Why would any company do that? Time marches on and so do the models.

Apples to Oranges. A car has the "year" in its name so as time rolls on the models have an inherent self-destruct already built in.

I tend to think the cheaper macbook white might actually stay just to keep the unibodies at their price point. A replacement for the white would only detract from them.

But then again, it wouldn't be the first time Jobs screwed up a product line of computers.

Looks like the Buyer's Guide has turned to
"Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle" finally...

i believe they will replace it with their so called "tablet" for that type of money . Plastic or aluminium though....?

Doubt it

I talked to a apple expert and they told me it would not be discontinued anytime soon because it is one of there most popular models :)

I have a friend who is pretty high up at :apple: in the VA office, and he said they flat out sell, and are still being highly demanded.

I personally think the white is 'classic' for Mac...

I just bought a new white macbook last week to replace the 14" G4 IBook that I bought in '03.
I'm loving it so far. I originally was going to get the 2.4 Aluminum but couldn't spare the extra $300 right now.

I was initially a little disappointed when I realized that I couldn't quite afford he aluminum model but I'm loving the white one and couldn't be happier.

As far as the white Apples looking dirty. You definitely need to be a bit more careful if you want them to stay new looking. Six years with my G4 iBook and iMac and they are in excellent condition, but I went out of my way to make sure that they stayed that way. My brothers iBook on the other hand looks like hell

I have no doubt that they will discontinue the white's eventually. The direction that Apple is taking seems pretty obvious. The Aluminum's are a lot more green and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm not really worried though, if this new Mac works as well as my old ones I won't need another until 2015 :)

After two months of perfect care, my 15" Unibody accidentally slid off my bed as I was using it, and the entire left side hit the ground, with the lid open. Not even a scratch.

Not until there is a low cost alternative. If they dropped it, the cheapest MacBook Apple sell in Australia would be $2000. $1650 for the current white one is already too high.
I live in AU as well and I have to some what agree with you there i payed $ 2,099.00AUD and the us only pay $1,299.00 so if you work on the change rate shows AU should only be paying $1,650.06AUD.

I was so careful with my white macbook. about a year in, the casing around the cd drive fell off. cracked around the WHOLE keyboard.. it was a crappy little thing. I bought the new Al macbook and I love it.

Until there is a low cost alternative to the plastic white MacBooks...

It. Will. Not. Be. Discontinued.

Steve Jobs said "we'll just keep on selling these [the white MacBooks] for an awful long time" in the keynote where the Unibody MacBooks were introduced.

With that said, I don't think they'll stop selling these anytime soon; especially if they just updated them.
