The XR is better value wise on price. But the XS will sell better in the long run.

I disagree with your second sentence. The XS will not sell better in the long run, why? Because it’s considerably priced higher, where as the XR is $250 cheaper, and will likely get discounted if it remains in Apples lineup when version two of the 2019 XR launches. Consumers will see the similar form factor and Face ID between both the iPhone XR and Xs, which they will gravitate towards the cheaper price of the XR.

On resell the XS will hold value better in the long run I meant. Sales wise the XR will do better than the XS because of value and price for sure.

So that being said, could the gap between the S10e and the S10 be even more marginal? I don't find the extra camera, FP in the display, heartbeat sensor, and extra resolution to be as bad as LCD, less network infrastructure, the IP water resistance difference, no 3D Touch, one less camera at the back, and no HDR in a display.

You are right as the gap is less between the S10e and S10. Just a bigger higher resolution screen, in screen fps, an a additional camera, and size separate the two. I think for most its either go all the way and get the S10+ or get the S10e if you just want the basics.

I can't even lie, there's a part of me that really wants to try the s10.

However, it just wouldn't be worth all the trouble. It was tiring enough selling my Xs and upgrading to the Xs Max. Plus I paid full price, so I'm not willing to take another loss like I did on the Xs.

I could get carrier financing and try out the s10, but then that represents a lose lose scenario. If I like it, then I have to sell the Xs Max. If I don't, I get hit with a restocking fee.

Too I would have wanted the galaxy buds, but that ship has sailed.

Lastly, concerning the ecosystem... My other 4 lines are all iPhones. I'd lose control of supervision via screen time with my daughters and all the other Apple apps. I'm not a fanatic, as in I don't use Apple maps (trash), I have JBL for Bluetooth speaker, etc...

But still, it's not just me I have to consider even "if" I wanted to switch.

That's what keeps households in the Apple fold.
Even if you leave aside the financials and change over all members of your family, is there a (a) screen time control (b) app download permission seeking kind of security feature on Android?

When I have upcoming teens who will be going 'digital' soon, I don't care much about my comfort and openess of an OS.The more restricted the more better for me.
What I want is strict control of everything that my offsprings are going to touch :)

Well earlier in this thread I talked about how I bought a S10 and ended up returning it and going back to my XS Max.

Well two days later I bought a S10e and have been using it as my daily driver since. I actually love this normal sized phone, ha.

The in display fingerprint wasn't ready for primetime and I absolutely hated the curved display. The S10e fixes both of those issues and still gives me the openness of Android with a fast and fluid phone.

I'll probably keep the XS Max for a bit. Might alternate phones every now and then but I am slowly leaving Apple unless iOS 13 really delivers.

The app download control is such an underrated feature. I have that with my daughter where I get the alert anytime she wants to download an app. Such a great tool.

Genuinely curious, can you expand on why the ultrasonic fingerprint reader was not ready? Like what was your experience that leads you to believe that?

There seems to be a very mixed response to the FPS. Some people use it and have no issues with it. However there seems to be an equal number of people/reviewers who are having problems getting it to detect their finger print and are getting a lot of errors.

I upgraded from an iPhone 8 to a Galaxy S10. I'll be honest - I absolutely LOVED the phone, but hated the in screen fingerprint reader.

Traded it in for a Galaxy S10e, and that has proved to be perfect for me. I'm no fanboy of either side - I can easily see myself returning to an iPhone in the future...however, the S10e has been fantastic.

Hi guys,
I’m the owner of a galaxy s10+ but i’m returning to the iphone XS max.
Here some of my comments (i’m trying to be as objective as possible).

Design
The s10+ feels much much lighter than the xs max and the design and color is amazing. S10+ wins very easily.

Screen
The screen is beautiful but i couldn’t notice much difference of quality with the xs max. Also, with the curve (edge) i found myself opening apps or options that was not intended to. Trying to use it with one hand is almost impossible without again opening apps or options because of the edge part (i even install a third party app to reduce the zone of the touch).

Photo
I had both phones when it happens so i could compare. I was very disappointed by the s10+ as for instance i tried a selfie in my home with some sun light going through the window and while the xs max didn’t show any of it, the s10+ image was ‘obstructed’ by the sun light. You could see that the sun light was passing through the room.

The other photo was with the main camera, trying to take a picture in my living with lights on the wall. While on the xs max you could see the light on the wall, in the s10+ the light was like a fire ball.

Audio
Xs max wins easily but i already read that speakers on the iphone were much better.

Lock screen
Finger print for me worked very well as well as face id. I found face id much quicker than the xs max.
The only disappointment is that to wake up the screen of the s10+ you must double tap or press the power button while on the xs max one tap is enough.
I found that one tap to wake up the phone was slow, not responding right away.

Android
I found the scroll down too rigid while on the xs max the scroll down has some inertia and so it doesn’t stop as soon as you stop touching the screen (scrolling)...
Also i found that for example some times the scrolling was not responding especially when scrolling continuously. It happens one time each four touch to scroll down.

I really want to love the s10+ but there’s so much to sacrifice and not much to gain.

I have had the S10E for a week now. Also have the XS Max. The S10E is the phone I always wanted. Great specs and it takes advantage of its 5.8 screen. I will keep my Max but the S10E is the perfect phone on the market. Its like an Iphone 5 Ferrari version. I love Iphones but they need to up there game.

I am interested where you got the graphs from?

As for me I can tell you why I choose Android every time. It's simple. iOS. Cannot stand it. Not only I cannot stand the OS from pure philosophical point of view because of things like Settings menu being a total mess, to the lack of good battery settings (I don't care about weekly statistics, I care about statistics for every charging cycle), meaningless quick settings menu (that never goes to full settings menu), lack of proper file system (that is also full with bugs and quite often unresponsive), bloatware (needless Apple apps that I have to spend 10 minutes to hide because the customization is non existing), poor RAM management (apps being reloaded every 30 minutes, same for Safari tabs) but it is also buggy.

I am not disputing your argument but first of all my personal phone is connected to Internet only when I needed (I don't like being disturbed by notifications) and second there is nothing on my phone that I would want to hide. Because of this I prefer to choose the OS that does not make jump through hoops to do the simple tasks, is more stable and allows me to use the way I want (in contrast iOS in itself tries to tell me how to use it which is not acceptable for me as an end user).

If anyone actually truly believes that Apple collects less than Google you need to give yourself a shake! They both do the same in my opinion they aren’t any different.

I think Apple fans pride themselves on "privacy" and don't necessarily ask the right questions from one of their favorite firms. Google has so much access to info, it's difficult to avoid them on iOS. Google is the official search engine on iOS, Google G suite is important for businesses, Google Apps provide some nice workarounds to Apple's proprietary apps, etc.

As an iOS user, I think Apple is overrated and people put them on a higher platform. Does it help Apple positions itself as more "privacy friendly?" Sure. But it's not a make or break for me as a consumer.

Many will disagree and it's their prerogative to do so.

So if that’s your belief on Apple, can you provide any literal examples of how they collect the users data/information? And how do they distribute that compared to Google?

Didn't a bunch of third-party iOS apps get caught taking, and in-turn selling off data via the app store? I don't think your data is safe with any platform tbh.

The rubber-band/inertia effect while scrolling makes a substantial difference once you get used to seeing it on iPhone. I have tested Samsung phones and I felt like the absence of rubber-band effect makes android on Samsung feel less polished. They have a visual indicator animation when you scroll all the way to the top or bottom but that looks like cartoonish. I guess Apple had patented it, so Samsung was forced to remove it's earlier implementation, though many Chinese OEMs such as, Vivo, Oppo, Xiomi have it... maybe Apple can't sue them or somehow they figured out a way to get around Apple's patent, and because of that their UI feels very close to iOS

My new S10 is 25% lighter than the XS Max. Apple has to get their ergonomics together.

You do realize the S10 is also considerably smaller than the XS Max right?

You should be comparing the S10+ to the XS Max and there's not that big of a difference.

Yes, and it's also about 15% heavier than the S10+. Ergonomically, it's a bit heavier.

I just found it odd that you were criticizing a bigger phone for being heavier because it obviously would be. :)

Yeah, larger normally means more weight. But I just hope Apple can get better ergonomics because iPhone users could benefit from a modern feel.
