there is not a lot of info out yet about the update.. its a direct download and not from iTunes. I was running 1.1.4

Im trying to keep my iPhone on 1.1.4 and then when I get my new phone tomorrow be able to plug it in and sync up all the information from itunes. Was just wondering if this would be possible without having to upgrade my current iPhone to 2.0.

seesm possible. After my upgrade, it asked me if I wanted to restore from previous backup or treat as new phone.

which file do i select when i hold option? i dont see the ipsw file.

you need to turn off "open safe downloads" in your safari/general preferences and download again. edit the .zip of the file to read .ipsw. option click on restore in itunes.

This "option click" thing - I assume its a mac thing.....what does one do in Windows?

ok. My upgrade is 100% done. No problems here. All is working fine. Date restored just fine... all email accounts, bookmarks etc.

done, playing with it now, exchange configured works fine...did not backup, figured I would just be fresh and re import music etc.

My update is complete and the three apps I downloaded earlier are on it. But it is still loading my music and videos, so I can't yet confirm that they work. I assume they do, though.

Updated my original iPhone with 2.0 - worked fine, took about 10 minutes or so to backup and install. Apps are working fine (I'm downloading straight to the phone), and some are really quite snazzy (loving the Remote one!).

Ok downloaded the folder and using mac book pro...So what do I do know...the folder says 1,2 on it...Do I need to rename that

I'm successfully running the 2.0 firmware, apps downloaded and all.

I just have to laugh at the AIM application though. You can't receive new IMs for 15 minutes if you aren't in the application because of the PUSH notifications, but if you don't access AIM for 5 minutes you get logged out, even though the "Sign-off on Exit" option is set to OFF. I really hope they fix this.

Also, the Facebook application doesn't seem to be working. Says "Sorry, unable to connect to Facebook at this time. Please try again later."

still need help what do I need to open when doing the install there is several dmg files and other things...It will not let me put in the password for the dmg file..What to do

READ this earlier thread or any of the dozen other threads...DO NOT extract the ipsw file. If you're downloading with Safari it may try to autoextract it...so download it with FireFox or something. I've seen this question asked 30 times in the last hour.

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANYTHING BUT A SINGLE IPSW FILE AFTER THE DOWNLOAD. If the file extracted, start over and download it with FireFox (or turn off something in Safari that autoextracts downloaded files).

Then open iTunes, go to your iPhone, hold down the option key and click Restore, then choose the ipsw file you downloaded.
