That is correct it will not be able to make cell calls as well as receive, the LTE basically covers data and of course a monthly charge from your provider. I don't see the point of LTE with data when open wifi is available everywhere ( starbucks, Panera, Mcdonalds etc etc)

I'm still trying to understand the concept of using LTE to communicate data if it does not allow one to make a phone call.

We all know that bluetooth basically sucks and that it is a huge bottleneck in terms of quickly transferring data between the phone and the watch. I wonder if the addition of LTE will allow for greater and faster data transfer between the two devices and lessen the dependence on bluetooth. And maybe the LTE data transfer as opposed to bluetooth is needed for upcoming "smart bands" or other features that Apple will add to the watch.

If this is the situation I'm not sure it would be necessary to have a data plan with a cell provider if all the LTE will be used for is data transfer between the phone and watch.

Thanx chiefs. It seems like the only exciting feature the new watch has is waterproof.

I have none, but would like one. I need 2 features to jump from Fitbit. 1. Need it to measure sleep 2. Need it to measure flights of stairs. I like these features and want to continue measuring them.

Do not need to buy another AW to sit in the drawer with the others. LTE will have no use for me.

I'll take them if you're not using them ;)

The current watch is waterproof (Series 2). It might be that the new one has a better underwater rating but unless you dive, i'm sure it's not going to matter.

I am struggling to see what LTE will bring in terms of significant ability to warrant an upgrade. What I am interested in is to see what the new edition model will be like as it's rumoured to be cheaper then the current ceramic model.

Unless Apple offer some new " I got to have" feature many will be happy with what they got.

I would love to see a bronze Apple Watch.

Someone said that the newest I watch won't have the ability to make phone calls. Is this true?
My Magic 8 Ball says the future is cloudy, ask again later. (No one outside Apple really knows wthat a Series 3 Apple Watch will involve.)

I will consider whether to buy a Series 3 once the Series 3 is announced.

Based on watchOS4 I'm expecting new design with only one physical button. I doubt I'll upgrade my S2. The only things that would tempt me would be always on screen, cellular, and always on heart rate monitoring. But I doubt we'll get all of that. Also if it does have cellular, you can bet that as a version 1, it's going to be buggy and full of battery drain problems. Best to wait for S4.
What software feature makes you think there will only be one physical button?

I think the LTE version may be thicker or larger in some way, and unless they can show value or some new things, I can’t see needed LTE

I would rather have better battery and better GPS, now GPS for me is not always great, I think they are jumping between GPS and counting my wrist movements for calculating some things.

So I’m not interested at all, I have my phone most times anyway.
I've had great GPS performance from my Series 2. It's been at least as reliable and accurate as my old Garmin Forerunners. What do your GPS tracks look like in the Activity App when run/bike/whatever you do? Is GPS performance better if you carry your phone or use an on-phone app? (I usually run without my phone, but I always bike with it because...jersey pockets.)

They should look smooth, like this one from Sunday:

I have series 0 so definitely going to upgrade. LTE would be great if you can stream podcasts, music and audiobooks. Hopefully that will be sorted.
I find the series 0 a bit sluggish so a better processor plus being waterproof would sell it for me.

I might upgrade because I'm on a series 0 stainless steel and lately I've been wanting to go running without my phone, just throw on the watch and go. For that reason alone I might upgrade, but other than that I'm perfectly fine with my Series 0....

For Me, I eagerly await an overhaul on the Apple physically. I really like the current design, but it doesn't provoke me enough with LTE to upgrade. Physical changes would be nice to see, but seemingly those types of changes are or further than I expected, being I originally did not think we would see a Series this Fall, which is almost a see happening at this point.

Sometimes it starts in the wrong location, sometimes I have dashed lines in my track, but that's not all the time. The real problem is ever since I upgraded the OS, it now has amazing battery life, like crazy. I go for a run and it's like 87% after, so I think it's sometimes using just my arm movements and not GPS and just doing some calculations to fill in GPS, I just don't know. So I did a test and exaggerated extra arm movements and it did say I was going way faster, so I know it was not using GPS 100%, unless I bike, then it just uses GPS.

It still works OK, But when I use to go on an outdoor run, it was perfect, I mean I loved it, now sometimes I look at current pace and it's off, at the end of every mile it was always right on the mark, 100% of the time, now sometimes it can be off by 30 yards or so.

So I guess I have to run perfect or just not move my arms at all..o_O If it is the case that it doesn't use GPS 100% I would like a toggle to do just that and have less battery.

I'll try it with my phone to see whats up, and then wait for the new OS.

That is all strange. Mine definitely uses GPS 100% outdoors. The GPS tracks always look pretty good (at least on the last few betas). On the first watchOS 4 beta I installed (DP 3 or 4), I did see a few GPS inaccuracies, but they have gone away for me in subsequent betas.

I wouldn't mind getting a Series 3, depending on the features it brings, up from my Series 2... I wouldn't mind the data aspect just from a connection perspective for being able to leave the phone behind and not lose out on important communication or streaming music for exercise - but it'll always be more beneficial for that bite-size communication and convenience, rather than some sort of phone replacement... I've never understood the News headlines and the like on the watch - I have zero interest in trying to read anything beyond text message-length type information

Got the Series 2 this summer and I highly doubt Series 3 is gonna be very different. (but my Series 2 is waay better than my Series 0).
And I don't want to pay more per month to have LTE on my watch.

I'm on a Series 2 - and doubt I'll upgrade. The only thing leaked is the idea of cell connectivity. They idea of paying a monthly cost for a watch (and phone and ipad) is not worth it. Apple (and cell providers) better start to think of a way to cap monthly costs for users if they want these things to succeed.

As far as what the watch needs - more sensors!

Given the pace of obsolescence of these things, I don't think I'd every buy a nice one - ceramic? sure it's nice, but it would wind up sitting in drawer after a couple of years.

I may pick up a SS Series 2 if eBay is flooded with cheap Apple Watches again like it was when the new models were released last year.
That's one option. I bought a SS original at a fantastic price since I was not a fan of the series2 I'm still not a fan and would not buy one just to replace what I have but if the series3 has some significant improvements I just might get the latest and greatest. I'm excited.

Agreed. The changes are likely internal or a specification increase. But the physical changes will be Minimal, but likely will include battery and processor enhancements.

My Series 0 has been great, but I'm ready to get a newer model mainly for speed improvements and waterproofing, etc. LTE isn't a huge deal for me, but any other minor upgrades would be nice. As long as the price isn't drastically higher than Series 2 I'm definetly upgrading.

I will be, I bought the S2 about 6 weeks ago, returned it when the S3 rumours surfaced.

I'm ready to replace with the S3 in Stainless.

I really wonder what the refresh will entail.. anyone think it's going to be anything other than LTE (for LTE models) and a faster chip (for LTE and non-LTE models). If so, hoping for nice discounts on series 2.

Bought the Series 2 two days ago because I'm an impatient scrub but I'm pretty happy with her (it's a girl) so far. Lost 1 % battery over the night and because I'm not using it for sport so far (no freetime because of school and football-training) I'm just using it as a watch and activity-tracker (closing rings and stuff).

I almost bought Series 1 because reviews said that it's kinda faster than S2 but meh, I'm happy - so no reason for me to upgrade as long as the S3 doesn't have a beamer with Safari on it lol :x

Perhaps additional casing colors or metal finishes would be a nice add on.
