The processor is updated on the ultra. The Ultra 2 didn't get an update processor last year but the series watch did.
No, the SoC was upgraded to the S10 but the CPU IS THE SAME. A CPU is one component of the SoC.

The Ultra 2 received a significant CPU performance bump from the Ultra 1, but the Ultra 3 doesn’t get a boost.

I had preordered, but it doesnt seem like the battery upgrade is making a significant difference. My 2023 U2 still lasts me about 60hrs.

So after seeing these two things, Ive decided that I will just return the U3 as soon as it arrives before opening it.

Hopeful for U4 to have better upgrades and for a silicon carbon battery in the future.

My AWU2 is 2 years old, there is no point to upgrade.
No new feature, same speed.
It won't be obsolete or not supported before AWU3.
The little hardware upgrades (minor screen change, small battery bump and 5G/satellite) are not useful for me.

I can certainly understand that not everyone needs the new features, but I am upgrading from the AWU2 to the AWU3. I am without my phone quite a bit, at least 6-10 hours every week and it is not uncommon for me to be without any cell reception while doing so. I also like the switch to 5G. The extra battery life is a plus for my long pursuits. And the slightly larger screen, while not much, is always welcome.

I can easily see why these features are not worth it for 80% of the AWU owners out there and that is okay, but this upgrade is worth it for me.

Negative negative.
1. Low trade in value.
2. Little to no upgrade incentive.
3. I can't take advantage any of the upgraded features.
4. Seriously!? Why spend another grand on something that looks and feels the same.

Yea i am upgrading from black ultra 2 to black ultra 3. No reason other than i want it and can afford it. While i agree its not a huge upgrade i am excited about 5g, the upgraded display that will show seconds and while probably hard to tell, the bigger screen!!!

I really love my apple watch and use it a lot.

How did the black finish hold up after all this time?

I love my Ultra 2, use it all the time and feel naked when I have to revert to my AW Series 8 while the Ultra is charging. I will eventually get a new Ultra to replace it. But not this year. The Ultra 3 doesn't seem like much of an upgrade, not at what the Ultras cost.

I’ve seen in some YouTube pre-release videos that the battery life for the Ultra 3 was measured a different way. They added 6 hours for sleep monitoring on the Ultra 3 but the Ultra 2 doesn’t include that. The working theory is that battery life was actually unchanged but measured in a different way.

That is absolutely not the „working theory“ (anymore) as it has been revelaed that the battery is actually bigger.

Even so, the fact stands that the Ultra 2 does NOT include the 6 hours of sleep time. So the true battery gain isn’t 6 hours.

And it also a fact that battery life is not „unchanged“ (as you claimed). The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. In-depth reviews will soon enough do a real-life check of Apple‘s claims.

If I didn’t stupidly sell my awu2 I wouldn’t have bothered with the 3. I was iphoneless for a short time so I sold it. Probably should have kept it lol.

That's why today I replaced my AWU2 with the new AWU3 :)
Especially the decreased bezel area makes a difference - it's only 24% smaller but after a while with my new AWU3, the old AWU2 looks outdated.
Not my photo but it shows the difference well:

It looks definitely better in your example. However, I never use a colored watch face, I only like black ones, so it’s a moot point for me.

I have both, and am contemplating keeping the AW3 and selling my AW2. It does have better battery life and does seem a little faster. I haven't tested it on 5G so I don't really know how it is. I do enjoy it very much but I also enjoyed my Ultra 2.

Doesn't seem to be a huge upgrade

Screen only ever-so-slightly larger, 4 hours more of battery (which isn't much), and a hypertension monitor, which isn't constant or immediate in its reporting.

Still pondering.
I did. I played with it for 2 days and returned it this morning. There's just not enough upgrades to justify $800. The Ultra2 is still performing well, and is still pristine - no scratches, nicks or other blemishes.

FWIW, this is the first year in a long time that I didn't buy anything from the iPhone launch event.

Tempted .....

I looked at it in-store and put it on my wrist next to my AWU2. The larger display-within-same-size-bezel is noticeable and better.

Nope even after the keynote, I’m happy with almost 1 year old AWU2 with the OG blood oxygen sensor. I still have the hypertension notifications and sleep scores, so I do not see any reason to upgrade until maybe next year or a new sensor.
