Mine are on .276. Updated. No idea when. Some aren't 'near me', but I'd think they updated as well. The problem, as many have said before, the idea of 'magic updates' is novel, but not at all productive. If it were a 'serious update', does Apple have a way to more effectively push updates? *shrug* Yeah, I'm wondering what a 'serious update' would look like, and maybe it's just not a thing, but it does make me wonder.

IF someone is able to hack them, and the hack spreads quickly (somehow), can Apple push patch the entire universe of AirTags to fix the issue in a short amount of time? In such an incident, patching *all* of them quickly would be pretty important. Just wondering out loud.
Since effectively auto-update is enabled for our AirTags (we never had the option to opt out) - that means they would get updated quickly. Also, the software updates have to be tiny - next to no functionality onboard. So, pushing a critical updates to all AirTags would be pretty trivial.

'Should' be pretty trivial. I remember this 'first update' to be a great idea for the AirTags. *shrug* Apple does what it needs to do I suppose... I wonder if they could trigger a 'high priority' update. If they wanted to. Had to...

The CDN (content distribution network) that Apple uses delivers updates to millions (billions?) of people on a regular basis. iOS and MacOS updates are massive compared to the tiny firmware updates that would be sent for the AirTags.

You're blowing smoke - this scenario isn't even the slightest challenge for what's in place today.

I know. My comments are partially tongue in cheek. With Apple's capability to push out updates, it just seems odd that the smallest Apple product, a fraction of a thimble in data size, took so long to update. Obviously, I hope, tis was by design. It wasn't a crucial update. But, what if it were. *could* they, for example, push an update out to *all* AirTags and get them updated in, say, 24 hours? I'm sure it's not needed, but in pandemic hell, I think of such things now...

Can an AirTag receive an update if it’s close to an iPad (as opposed to an iPhone)?

Hi All,

I appear to be stuck at firmware 1.0.276 on my airtags. One of them have been sitting with my iphone for hours each day but still nothing.

Anyone having luck?

Thanks

I wonder why Apple has been totally silent on this issue. They could easily explain their method.

Looks like today must be the day for those of us still stuck. I'll have to make sure my tags are within good bluetooth range of my phone when I go home tonight, so they have the opportunity to update. - still on .276

This thread made me check mine... so the one that's been sitting in my pocket all day updated to the newer firmware. The one that's in both my kids backpacks are still on .276 Maybe I'll have to put them next to my iPhone charger this evening and see what happens.
