Dude, it’s obvious that they’re out of ideas. The new physical camera button is a completely redundant and useless feature. It’s slower than the other myriad of ways of accessing the camera and certainly orders of magnitude slower for adjusting settings.I understand why they do it. I’m just saying it’s not a “Pro” feature. It’s pretty bad if Apple has come to the point where, in order to get you to buy the more expensive phone, the defining feature is AOD and 120Hz. To me, that means they are running out of ideas.
Not to mention that when a company starts listing “grades” of titanium they’re using or how many studio microphones they have, it’s plainly obvious that they’re fishing for things to talk about.
The last meaningful iPhone upgrade was the 14 Pro series because of the 120Hz display. Since then, these are just rehashes with incremental improvements.
And yes, to your point, high refresh rate screens are now table stakes. Apple will have to get on board with this. They’re just buying time, hoping they’ll be able to come up with something to differentiate the “Pro” line from their Joe-average line.
This isn’t just happening with the iPhone though. The Watch has been stagnant for years (thinner by 0.9mm anyone?). AirPods Pro have now been matched by the regular AirPods. The only “Pro” thing about the AirPods Pro are the changeable silicone tips and the fact that they will function as a hearing aid. The former is nice, the latter is a niche use case.
Apple is done innovating. They’re just iterating.
(And full disclosure, I’m a house full of Apple gear, own the 16 Pro Max, and the latest AirPods Pro. Heck, I even have HomePods and AirPods Max. Why do I shop Apple still you ask? Customer service. Full stop.)
