The appletv isn’t big. Literally the size of your palm. Why can’t you travel with one? You really want something that’s you can pick up with two fingers instead of your hand? Doesn’t seem like much of a difference to me overall. The size of the appletv is very small.

I HAVE traveled with an Apple TV. (It's not as romantic, or effective, as one might think, 'Throttled internet' anyone?)

Until Apple comes up with a dongle cable set that replaces ALL of the cables that would have to plug into yet another propriety connector on the market, the cable rats nest will continue.

I would like one just for airplay mirroring.

For context, this is what my school is using in the classroom to allow teachers to project their windows laptops wirelessly to the projectors.

I have a 3rd gen Apple TV in the classroom as well just to mirror my iPad, and for a while, I actually carted it (together with the power cable and a 10m-long HDMI cable along with me for a class where it wasn't feasible to leave the Apple TV unattended 24/7).

I wouldn't say no to a more portable option, that I can just chuck inside my bag and bring around with me for when I need airplay mirroring options in a pinch.

Had this been a Micro$oft-produced show there would be Surface Pros shoved in viewers faces with the SURFACE name shamelessly pushed in the screen. It’s bad enough the SURFACE name is shoved in viewer’s faces during football games. Not sure why you wouldn’t expect Apple to promote their hardware in their own shows? I wouldn’t expect them not to.
Maybe because I'm watching a show and not a commercial? I'm just saying the product placement is really excessive at points. Like, stories seem to specifically crafted to show Apple products. Once it becomes conspicuous enough to stand out, it's a distraction.

Apple needs to build a TV. That's the only way to do the overall TV experience. Apple TV is just another box.
An actual television built by Apple would have to be about $5000 to meet Apple's profit margin expectations. (I kid, but not by much.)

Although it would be nice to watch Apple TV+ on the Apple TV app on my Apple TV.

And as I stated about Microsoft products it’s the same way. Ever watch a Sony Entertainment motion picture? All you see in the movie are Sony cameras, monitors, old Sony TV’s and Sony’s same planted everywhere. Not sure why you think what Apple is doing is inappropriate or over-the -top? It’s commonplace with companies. You may not admit it but if it was your own tech company hosting films and shows you would have a lot of product placement too. If you didn’t you wouldn’t be doing your own company a service.

And product placement and the fees the production companies get for it is a huge part of the movie/TV business. I've heard some movies make insane amounts of money on 'placements'. People notice. There was a movie that had an old style Mac with a color monitor that rocked the world of people that cared. The rumors were insane. 'Apple is going to release a color version of the original Macintosh', only they didn't...

Micro$oft?
Do people still talk like that?
Apple just doesn't have an S in it.
This is the company who forces people to use an App Store.
Don't get me wrong, not being able to install W11 on my 2015 PC is so not cool.

How annoying. Some of us may want a smaller device for travel. The fire stick I currently travel with is garbage. I would love an Apple TV stick instead and wouldn’t mind paying a premium for it.
Its still would be garbage. USB TV dongles use their own WiFI access duplicating what's built into the TV. Then you have the ARM would be a much older, less capable SoC because of the USB power limitations along with little storage or memory. It would be more like how the much older AppleTVs interface was, with not being capable of supporting tvOS. Be very hard to convince people that something like that is worth buying over some other TV dongle irregardless of Apple selling it. :)

Yes and deservingly so.

Do people still beat a dead horse with the word “Courage”? Yes.
So what has MS done to you lately?
All the toys I want cost less wihout Apple.
Double negative?
Just my feelings but I don't go out Apple bashing.
I'm not crazy about any of those fat cat companies.
I'm sure the Apple TV device is fantastic, but 3X more than I've ever paid (or wish to pay) for a streaming device.
I would buy Apple TV in a heartbeat, if it would replace my POS Xfinity box. People with Spectrum are able to do so.

Where in my post did I say nobody but Apple does this? I watch plenty of TV and movies, and the Apple stuff absolutely stands out as very over the top. And I don't give a crap whether it's "commonplace with companies" it still blows to realize the thing your watching is written to highlight products for sale.

Oh won't someone please think of the poor corporations!

The issue is Apple, Google, Amazon, and Roku are not really competing in the same markets.

Amazon and Google sell loss-leaders because their actual customers are advertisers, and the product they are selling is user engagement. They have no need or intention of making a profit on the hardware.

Apple is selling the best possible hardware and software experience. They need to make a profit on each unit sold, and on any transactions that occur on the device. They're not making any money on the side elsewhere.

Roku a hybrid of both approaches. They are trying to make a profit on the hardware, but they also have an advertisement network.

I don't know how Apple or anyone else can overcome these desperate approaches. It sucks for the consumers.
"not making any money on the side elsewhere" Except the app store, and many of their services. They could sell the dongles close to even and still make a killing with their services part of it.

Oh really? A few here continually say that nobody wants to pay for the AppleTV+ and that after the trial they dump it. Until their services really get off the ground why invest in extra hardware?

And yet sell stuff in Walmart, and Target. Hmm...
And Microsoft positions it's Surface products as premium brand products as well. What's your point? Where something is sold doesn't dictate the quality of it or brand positioning.

I'll say. You can't go five minutes through Ted Lasso without a very conspicuous shot of an iPhone or MacBook. I mean, fine, whatever -- but when Coach Steve said he was "sharing his iCloud" with his girlfriend, that just felt SO ham-fisted. (Also, Coach Steve seems like more an Android guy to me, tbh.)

I will say that product placement by other companies is really the only reason why we don’t see Apple products being featured on set more often.

Biggest issue with AppleTV (the hardware) is that you can't get non-Smart TVs any more, which means AppleTV is always hidden behind an option in a crappy smart TV interface on power-up. Makes me wish that Apple would just make their own TV. Otherwise, I'm clinging to my "dumb" TV for dear life.
I honestly don’t want a full TV from apple. I don’t want to end up having to upgrade that when **** gets obsolete. I just want a dumb display with HDR and good colors that I can plug things into. Then I can upgrade the external equipment more often to keep things up to date much cheaper.
