Are people actually paying for Apple TV+?

The content is boring. There is will never be anything edgy on it. It’s Apple. They wont have their service showing anything remotely contentious.

Similar thing can be said of Apple Arcade. What a load of rubbish. The games on there are for kids or OAP’s that don’t like serious games.

I’ll take them when they are free. For whatever reason I randomly keep getting free trial offers. I sign up of course because why not. As soon as that email comes through saying the free trial is ending and they are soon going to charge me, I cancel. It’s not worth paying for.
I’m still on my free year, but I just watched through Ted Lasso and it’s just ****ing great. I’m also looking forward to a couple upcoming shows too.

I honestly don’t want a full TV from apple. I don’t want to end up having to upgrade that when **** gets obsolete. I just want a dumb display with HDR and good colors that I can plug things into. Then I can upgrade the external equipment more often to keep things up to date much cheaper.

Oh, and please, no one try to invent a slot for upgrading 'intelligence' in TV's. How many 'slots' have been invented that didn't do a damn thing to allow upgrades. (Like my IIcx! It had a dedicated 'ROM Upgrade Slot', and Apple knew the ROMs were bad, and yet did not come up with a ROM upgrade card for their own slot in the damn IIcx!!!

I am paying for the Apple One bundle.

It's admittedly a mixed bag, but there are gems. In Apple Arcade, I spend a month plugging away at World of Demons (even ended up buying a PS5 controller to go with my Apple TV). Quite fun.

For TV+, I hardly watched any content last year, and now, I have Ted Lasso, See, Truth Be Told, and Morning Show starts next week. So I will be kept busy for a little while.

And frankly speaking, I am not seeing much better from Netflix or Disney+. Disney's original content hasn't really impressed me, I have one show to catch a week (what if), but their back catalogue is impressive. Netflix is even more hit and miss.

I think it's clear in hindsight that Apple was going for the quality over quantity approach. TV+ was a bit of a slow burn, the pandemic slowed down the creation of new content, and the pace is starting to pick back up. And as Apple gets a better sensing on what sort of content clicks with their users, we should see better engagement.

The Apple TV box is a massive blunder imo.

I love using it and think it’s great but without a low cost way to pipe in tv content Apple will never be able to compete with Netflix etc on content and subscribers.

it’s doomed to be a niche product and service when it could be a huge company all by itself. Amazon have a similar issue where they just don’t take content seriously. These services are the new tv channel and you have to be on your A game to win.

What are the chances Apple get in on Sport? Mixed bag I know, football having different meanings, rights are usually country specific. Many use it as a draw to get people to their services. If for example, if they hoovered up the rugby rights in the UK I would buy in with what original content they have on offer now.

This line of text needs to finally come to it's death. I'm on the AVS forum and that's all people say that they want a Dumb TV. This has been going on for many years. TV manufacturers aren't in business to be your friend. They will shove features in TV's that perhaps the "techie" person may not want but the majority of customers want these features when buying a new TV much more than the "techie" ones that don't want them. Also what would Apple's benefit of making yet another TV to throw in the already over-crowded TV market unless they had something unique about their TV's? Apple is now in the services business and if they eventually make a consumer TV of course they would make a SMART TV over a Dumb one.

If Apple ever got into the sports world anything outside of the U.S would be dead last in Apple considering it. The U.S will always be first and perhaps the only country they would get into especially since there's more popular sports in the U.S. and if they they did do a sport that originated outside the U.S. it would be Soccer among anything else. Unlike Soccer Rugby isn't a sport the U.S. has interest in. There's a larger sports audience in the U.S that also enjoys Soccer.

Apple could sponsor a bike team, an America's Cup sail boat, an NHRA dragster, etc...

They have the money.

I saw a picture of an Apple bike jersey. So WANT/NEED it hurts!!! I almost bought a Microsoft jersey, but it looked like a unicorn barfed on it, too many weird colors. It didn't have much sense, how the colors were used. MS didn't use those colors in their ads. Weird...

Their services are very much off of the ground... https://www.macrumors.com/2021/07/27/apple-services-revenue-q3-2021/ Also just because a few on sites like these claim they won't keep it doesn't mean that is the outlook for the majority of people.
I saw that article. Considering that Apple's services include Apple Music which has been established for years and has a big paid subscriber base the majority of the revenue is coming from that. The other services mentioned in the article aren't something that is used with an Apple TV such as AppleCare so that's not a service to consider when making a dongle. The success of Apple Pay isn't a reason to make a dongle. Sure you can use it to buy movies for Apple TV but it's not a reason to consider making a dongle. Those other services such as Apple Fitness are still new so they can't possibly be a large part of that $17.5 billion.

What does them having the money have to do with anything? Why do people constantly focus on Apple's money when they want Apple to do something they have not considered? Microsoft has the money too. Samsung and Sony have the money too. HP has the money. Does that mean they should sponsor a bike team? Why would Apple want to sponsor a bike team? They aren't in that type of business. If anything I could see them sponsoring a brand in the race car business considering there are talks of the Apple Car.

There are users outside the US. Tis why region specific but probably an ask too far. eg. European Rugby has quite an audience, that covers UK, France, Italy perhaps.
One can dream.

Lol whatever you say. Keep moving the goal posts.

I just want to have Safari on the Apple TV 4K, so I can turn my TVs into humongous computers with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

Two things: One - Reminds me of the Tandy Model 1. You purchased an Expansion Interface, which resembled a monitor stand. One of my young Radio Shack customers told his Mom that's what it was. The ribbon cable wasn't a clue for Mom. Extra stuff went in the Expansion Interface.
Two: The old phrase, "Turning up the brightness won't make the TV show more intelligent."
Okay, this is Me, with the bear hat, inside the monitor of the Mod I. The Expansion Interface is in the middle.

Greg Joswiak and Phil Schiller may be right but Apple has to decide AppleTV+ contents is important or relatively expensive AppleTV box is important. I would say Apple must focus on AppleTV+ contents creation and offer cheaper Streaming dongle. And if still wants to be in Xbox, Platstation domain than create own most powerful gaming console.

For heaven's sake give Apple a chance.
It is a marketing problem, and the other examples you mentioned are not really the same.

Honestly Apple's AppleTV names aren't nearly as confusing other manufacturer's products that don't even have real names but rather a long confusing model number.
Based off of my experience in real life conversations and in this forum:
Most people know what a Firestick, Fire TV, etc., is and does, or at least have an idea.
Most people know what a Roku does.
Most people know what a Chromecast does.
Most people are not really sure what one means by 'Apple TV'.

I'll say. You can't go five minutes through Ted Lasso without a very conspicuous shot of an iPhone or MacBook. I mean, fine, whatever -- but when Coach Steve said he was "sharing his iCloud" with his girlfriend, that just felt SO ham-fisted. (Also, Coach Steve seems like more an Android guy to me, tbh.)
Did you mean Coach Beard? I don’t remember a Steve…. I did find that scene funny and ironic, and didn’t twig that it was probably product placement!

An actual television built by Apple would have to be about $5000 to meet Apple's profit margin expectations. (I kid, but not by much.)

Although it would be nice to watch Apple TV+ on the Apple TV app on my Apple TV.
I was talking about a better product. Price isn't always what makes us buy Apple products.

I don't think Apple would charge much more than Panasonic for an OLED with LG panel.
