Because you don’t approve of the name, you want to blindly fire people whom you know nothing about. That isn’t very logical or practical. The new name of the (in and of itself) MacBook doesn’t equate to doom for the product. And capitalizing the word competent in an illogical post doesn’t reflect well for you.

This isn’t the marketing teams first gaffe in recent times. They’ve proven time and time again that they’re not very good at what they do. What happens in the corporate world when you’re not good at what you do? You’re let go. It isn’t a world of second, third, hundred chances to try again.

Apple appears to have prematurely revealed the name of its rumored lower-cost MacBook model, which is expected to be announced this Wednesday.

A regulatory document for a "MacBook Neo" (Model A3404) has appeared on Apple's website. Unfortunately, there are no further details or images available yet.

The lower-cost MacBook is rumored to feature an iPhone chip like the A18 Pro or A19 Pro, rather than an M-series chip, as well as a 12.9-inch display. It has also been rumored that this MacBook will come in fun color options, like yellow, green, blue, and/or pink, and the "MacBook Neo" name certainly sounds fun.

"MacBook Neo" would slot in below the MacBook Air in the Mac lineup, but its starting price remains to be seen, with estimates ranging from $599 to $799.

The media will likely receive hands-on time with the "MacBook Neo" at the "Apple Experience" gatherings being held in New York, London, and Shanghai this Wednesday at 9 a.m. Eastern Time. There is no Apple Event live stream for this launch, so keep an eye out for a press release on the Apple Newsroom website.

Update: Just a few minutes after we published, Apple removed the "MacBook Neo" link.

They should introduce it like from the Matrix, with Keanu Reeves. Who famously played Neo

Apple names are somewhat descriptive - Air being thinner and lighter, Pro being more performative for professionals. Neo being for... new people? Maybe Apple means it's for a baby with a pacifier and Macbook Neo?
Possibly neo for a new focus for people who thought a Mac was always out of reach. I think it also clearly denotes itself from the other models thus avoiding confusion.

wtf is this name. Just call it MacBook.

My thoughts on this were they'd avoid that. Just going with MacBook makes it appear to the consumer this is the standard MacBook, so would likely have quite an impact on MacBook Air sales.

Calling it MacBook Neo (I thought they'd go with MacBook e) at least implies this is a different device.

Yelling foul before the model is officially made known and available is illogical. All your post shows is you hate the name and want retribution because of the name.

So its basically an iPad with a permanent Keyboard attached/no touch screen that runs MacOS?

Get a MacBook Air or iPad Air/Keyboard Combo.

I am still not sure where this is supposed to fit in Apple's product lineup.

It is rumoured to be cheaper than your suggested combos, selling for $699-799, while the new MBA starts at $1099 and a comparable screen-size (13”) iPad Air and the Magic Keyboard 13” start at $799 + $319 = $1 118,00. FWIW, Apple used to sell a regular entry white PC MacBook in 2006 and it was a very good entry model.

What is with Apple’s naming strategy?
To make it boring enough for folks that don’t follow Apple to not care, and to inflame those that DO follow Apple enough to complain about it/make fun of it on social media. Effectively, free advertising for Apple as the majority of people seeing those posts won’t care about the name, but will be interested in the colors 🙂

why wouldn't they call it just a MacBook...?
It's not that simple, it's more like:

iPhone e (neo equivalent)
iPhone (equivalent of the MacBook Air)
iPhone Air (higher end, assuming it even survives long term)
iPhone Pro

"Neo" suggests novelty, which I suppose could be taken in one of two ways:

1. This is our newest, and by implication our most up-to-date, laptop.
2. This is our computer for people new to the Mac.

Option 1 clearly doesn't apply, and it feels weird to call something "neo" when it is already obsolescent on its day of release. So I'm assuming that Apple chose "Neo" because this laptop will somehow be specifically aimed at newbies to the Mac platform, perhaps the masses who've owned iPhones in the past but not Macs. This could also hint at the Neo being reliant on the App Store to a degree that other Mac laptops are not, an approach that iPhone users will be familiar with.

It doesn't work like that though. You have

If anything it's the iPad which is the odd one out, and I'm sure costs them sales with people thinking the budget model is the standard model.
