It doesn't work like that though. You have

iPhone e
iPhone
iPhone Air/Pro

iPad
iPad Air/mini
iPad Pro

Macbook Neo
Macbook Air
Macbook Pro

Watch SE
Watch
Watch Ultra

If anything it's the iPad which is the odd one out, and I'm sure costs them sales with people thinking the budget model is the standard model.
Respectfully, I disagree and to be honest it doesn't make sense at all.

First, I wouldn't put iPad Air and Mini at the same place and I wouldn't iPhone Air with Pro. Those are totally different products, in different price brackets and there also used to be iPhone Mini.

The odd ones are actually iPhone "e", MacBook "Neo" and Watch "SE" considering the fact that they used to produce iPhone "SE" for longer than iPhone "e" and they still produce Watch "SE".

So all of the low budget options are odd, including iPad.

Either call all of them "SE" or "E" or "NEO" or nothing at all.

No, people on here will complain, criticize and say that Apple has totally dropped the ball because it doesn't have the same spec as the MacBook Pro M5 Max if previous comments and the response to the iPhone 17e are anything to go by.
Far too many people on here complain and be outraged over minutia that really doesn‘t matter. Apple could give the complainers a new MB and they would still find something to whine about. Today is no different.

Why not a name such as “MacBook Light” or “MacBook Lite”? Using “Light” would fall into the same theme as “Air”.

Assuming this is legit, where the hell was Gurman, eh? You dropped the ball there Mark, and we're all disappointed in you.

an entry level Mac notebook for the masses. I think Apple already had a name for that one

Saying the name could be better isn't "outrage". It is a subjective opinion. I think it is just as ridiculous to blindly support everything they do. It is OK to criticize Apple's decisions sometimes.
Nothing wrong with criticizing Apple when it is due. However, complaining in the manner the member is, is not fair. I don’t support firing people over the name “neo” especially when the product hasn’t been released.

As I thought, Apple raised the entry point for the MacBook Air. So, my predictions for tomorrow would be something like:

MacBook Neo: 12GB / 256GB (or maybe 128 GB): about 100$ less than M4 MacBook Air Base model
MacBook Neo: 12GB /512 GB (or maybe 256GB): Same price as M4 MacBook Air Base model
MacBook Neo: 24GB/256GB: Same price M5 MacBook Air model
MacBook Neo: 24 GB/512GB: Higher price than M5 Base MacBook Air model

Apple are the champs of upselling. This new MacBook neo is a way to keep margins and raise prices to keep up with inflation and storage crisis (for the same price as a base M4 MB Air, you would now get 12 GB RAM/512GB (or maybe 12GB/256GB) and a few lower specs in the machine like ports or display resolution etc.). All wrapped up in a nice smoke and mirrors show that will be seen as a good opportunity by some for people to get a MB air with128GB more storage than the previous Air model for now "only" 100$ more.

Of course, this is all pure speculation, but it's always fun guessing and making predictions!

I don't really see why people are pretending like the words Pro and Air are the same as Neo.
How are they not?
I can assure you, the exact, exact same comments were made about the MacBook Air when it first launched.
In fact, here you go…

I sure hope not, that name is HORRIBLE

Jobs is laughing his ass off right now.

This "Macbook Air" name is way too big of a stretch. Just because Apple posted a banner that had the word Air in it, the new product is automatically going to be called Air? lol.

bunch of hot air if you ask me

Hmm... Macbook Air is a funny name...

I guess Apple is trying to hard to be creative.

Perhaps, although the fact that it showed up before the banners were posted is a little curious.

I certainly hope it's false though. I agree with a few others that the name is terrible.

MacBook Air.... I totally agree that this is a horrible name! May be it has an A/C built-in!
Steve Jobs is likely reading this and pissing his pants off

That is a horrible name... Apple would never go with it.

It's an ugly name. But just because it's ugly doesn't make it any less likely to happen. Fatpod anyone?

All that proves is Apple is indeed feeding wrong info to rumor sites. They knew someone would catch that and here we are.😉

I really hope that is not the name of the new MacBook. It doesn't sound like an Apple name. I don't like it.

I agree with Dave (Youtube xD) Macbook Air does seem something Microsoft would come up.

Macbook air is not the name and i will tell you why

"Macbook Air" was just registered on 01.11.08 as a .com

Here is another toy to waste 999$

"people use your brains and stop watching tv"

Anyway, just like MacBook Air before it, assuming that “MacBook Neo” is really the name people will complain and complain and “Steve would never” for a couple months until it just becomes part of the regular lineup.

MacBook Neo: 12GB / 256GB (or maybe 128 GB): about 100$ less than M4 MacBook Air Base model
$100 less? Can't see that happening. The Air would be a no-brainer better purchasing decision if they are only $100 difference based on leaked specs.

Edit: Notice you said M4 but I still say no chance cause that means $899 or $200 less.
