Neo suggests that this is targeted to those new to the Mac. They have “Switcher” videos again on their Mac pages.

This isn’t the marketing teams first gaffe in recent times. They’ve proven time and time again that they’re not very good at what they do.
One might look at Apple‘s earnings results and come to the opposite conclusion…
Seriously, on these exact forums there have been people calling for the firing of Apple‘s marketing team going back to the days of the iPod Nano replacing the iPod Mini, the first several MacBooks, and the iPad (good god the feminine hygiene product jokes were so annoying and inescapable for a good six months).
MacBook Neo, assuming that is the actual name, is fine. A little strange, but fine.

I don't know. It's better than Macbook Cheap.

In any case, I hope it's cheap enough that it'd make sense for me to get it for rough use.

If the goal of this laptop is to bring new people into the Apple ecosystem with something cheap/ish/er then I’d say MacBook Neo does a better job than just MacBook. MacBook at this point is just the generic name for a laptop made by Apple. Those who know there’s 2 different ones: the Air and the Pro.

Bit of a shame that the naming is different from iPad/iPhone/MacBook, Air and Pro. On the other hand: the name being different will work marketing wise. I mean, the discussion here is already 7 pages long.

Imagine pulling a small, colored laptop from your bag. You can literally hear the “is that one of them Neos” questions.

$749? Apple softened the “blow” of the MacBook Air price increase by boosting the base SSD to 512GB.
Yeah my original guess was $749 back when the Air was $999... I just think the Air's price increase (while nice to get 512gb base) is very deliberate to allow them to sell the budget MacBook at something like $799. Hope I'm wrong and its $600-$700!

Classic M1 MBA bottom cover, suggesting wedge chassis although it appears slightly smaller.

To be fair there is no plain MacBook in the lineup, so it's still just three names. I never liked the MacBook without any suffix - for me the MacBook is the family name and then Air, Pro and now Neo are the precise model identifiers. It's more logical in my head at least.

Now the 12 inch MacBook was one of my favourite ever laptops, so if this thing ends up being its spiritual successor by being super small and light I will be quite excited whatever the name.

P.S. why does everyone want a new AppleTV? What are people expecting that will bring to the party? Just curious as I use my AppleTV for 100% of my TV watching and don't really have any issues with it that would be fixed by a hardware upgrade.
The current Apple TV is slow.. Example watching music videos if you hit skip it can take 5-9 seconds to go to the next video on my new MBP it takes 1-3 seconds, navigation is sticky choppy, freezes often for 1-5 seconds in general its slow.

I have 1 Gig internet, 2.5gig wired network 6E wireless, 5 both wired and wireless latest apple TV 4K's no its not my internet or wired/wireless network its the apple TV its slow especially in the apple apps

Half of me thinks this is cool. Half of me is still so confused by having a mac less powerful than an iPad Air. And a MacBook Air supposedly being the thin and light variety of that product category being thicker and heavier than this. Less confusing than it being called “MacBook” though like that one in 2015…

Hmm... There seems to be a gap in the market/lineup for an iPad Max...

How are they not?
I can assure you, the exact, exact same comments were made about the MacBook Air when it first launched.
In fact, here you go…

Anyway, just like MacBook Air before it, assuming that “MacBook Neo” is really the name people will complain and complain and “Steve would never” for a couple months until it just becomes part of the regular lineup.
I thought I was hacked or something, I don't remember writing that post. Then I saw it was from 2008.
