One thing for certain is apple’s acquisition of dark sky does not benefit Aussie at all, as well as most of the world. Not true, it works perfectly in the U.K. as well.

Idk. All I’ve heard about dark sky are from forum members and their posts. It is a useless app in Australia.I've heard it has pretty decent precipitation predictions. Is that right, too?
yeah, buying a company to add features to their own offerings is stomping out creativity? must be great being naive.Apple stomping out creativity and innovation. Great job!

Can someone explain what was so great about this app?
I live in Australia and have never used it and barely heard of it, but keep seeing posts about how amazing it is.

Tech forum denizens tend to overstate the “amazingness” of apps they deem superior. Mostly it boils down to using and promoting anything that is not Apple. Usually the comparable Apple app is declared garbage and useless. The egos of fake tech nerds know no boundaries.
I think Dark Sky is OK as an app, but for me it doesn’t change the world.
If you think the Dark Sky acquisition was about an app then you rather missed the point what Dark Sky did. It is about the data, and what you do with it. And the Dark Sky data was made available through its API to many other apps like Carrot for example. This totally sucks

Slow your roll. Apple is far and away the underdog compared to Android, and there are hundreds of weather apps.
It is not about the app, it is about the data and what they do with it. And their model precipitation forecasting is just absolutely awesome, it is increadibly accurate with a superb time resolution. I mean when it says it will stop raining in 20 minutes, it so often is accurate that I do trust that. Can someone explain what was so great about this app?

Yes, it will, they'll have to find another provider. And will lose its magic, as without the data from Dark Sky it simply can't do all those notifications.A couple of quick thoughts:
First, Carrot Weather uses Dark Sky. Will that now become an issue?
Second, remember when SIRI was a stand-alone app? Apple purchased it
and now it is more readily available and life didn't cease to exist as we know it.
Yep, I am in the UK to and use this app all the time as it is so accurate. Not true, it works perfectly in the U.K. as well.
