Looks like the Kiss of Death Apple was so fond of in the 2000s : They buy an attractive company just to kill innovation, name the CEO Vice-President of Something and then oust everybody after the mandatory 18 months

Pretty sure the answer to that is "sorry 'bout that, but you can switch to FCP full-time and pay the subscription to get those functions again!"

Been burned way too many times by "I bought something advertised as perpetual" followed by "Thing I bought is now a subscription, the version I have got disabled, and the consolation is 'three free months of basic tier subscription' for long-term customers." And those changes are deployed right in with app updates so you can't ignore it unless you just stop updating apps (which is a security risk). So sick of it.
I think your answer is the right answer and I'm not happy about it. I guess we'll have to see how this plays out, but ugghh. Just saw a livestream where someone said the Resolve team within MotionVFX has been laid off. Jake Wipp makes good plugins for Resolve, he's gotta be licking his chops working for himself and leading the way in Resolve. Major competition just got wiped out.

I'm curious why they're rolling this into FCPX and not Motion.
Most FCP content is Motion content, so I will put money on this meaning a big expansion on Motion templates and content. Apple also hired Alex Lindsey not too long ago... Alex has been a big supporter of Motion for a long time. I have zero doubt he will at least be trying to steer them toward tighter integration and round-tripping between FCP and Motion. If they can do that, and they can come up with an answer to Blackmagic's cloud project server/colaborative editing I'd switch back to FCP.

Yeah, at the very least what they should do is strip the activation and provide the current version of the the content and plugins and give the users that paid for them a window to download them. Obviously no expectation of future updates/fixes, but that's better than just pulling the rug. I just dropped $300 on DVR versions of their content last month. I will be furious at Apple if they manage to out Adobe Adobe in this situation.

Great news.

I noticed a couple of days ago that it’s very difficult to find references to the DR and PP plugins on their site now. This explains why.

Yeah..

Just look at how they handled perpetual FCP customers, as I said previously. They dumped us, so I have no doubt they will dump DVR as well, in the same manner: Download your software installs and please exit stage left. Thanks for supporting us all these years... blah, blah, blah.

Awesome!! If they make the motionVFX stuff available through Creator Studio, I could drop my two very expensive mVFX CineStudio and DesignStudio subscriptions. Heck yeah!!! Someone above mentioned Native Instruments... would love Apple to acquire them as well.

Patrick Sterling is reporting, in his YouTube channel, that he used to do some work for them, and he thinks they'll drop support for all but FCP. I use Resolve.
That would be such a confusing move. Specially since MotionVFX released just a little while ago the iPad app that works exclusively with the iPad version of Resolve.

How did they dump us, exactly?
FCPX still works just like it did. The plugins still work. We even got updates.
I don’t feel dumped.
Maybe mO2 will finally work natively on Apple Silicon.

If you are a recent user and only subscribed, you don't know about it. Long term users know.

I was referencing my earlier post in this thread where they dumped all us perpetual license holders and buyers for FCP only. Without warning. They shut down the store, except for DVR and Adobe, without warning and then proceeded to delete a lot of their products including over 1000 Motion Project templates, some of which I wanted to purchase and had plans for future projects etc.

I found out by accident by refreshing their site and then received an email. I had just a few weeks before I wouldn't even be able to download my previous purchases before they were deleted. They are now gone for good and the subscription doesn't have any of them either. Completely gone, except for those who purchased a copy before this all went down and saved it.

It was the most anti-consumer behaviour I have experienced in a long time and it stung hard.

It has all been confusing for several weeks, until today. Finally, it makes sense.

It would not surprise me one bit for them just to can it or change it to FCP mobile only from Resolve.

Umm…what about the plug-ins we currently bought? Can we still access them?

Yeah, at the very least what they should do is give the users that paid for them a window to download them.

They sent out an email on February 26:

Action required ⚠️ Download your products by March 12.

Final days to download

Just a quick heads‑up: some of your older purchased products will be retired soon. To keep using them, please download them from your account via mInstaller — the last day to do it is March 12.

Loved MotionVFX. Spent over $2k on their great plugins. I say “loved” because they recently moved to subscription only service and no longer sell plugins individually. And I’m guessing this news of Apple acquiring the company was the reason why they gave existing users the date of last Thursday to download everything they bought before it would be removed.
Some how missed your post. So this!

I reached out to them early March and asked about this and they said that I could still download my plug-ins after the date which I thought was interesting. At the time we did not know Apple was buying them.

Maybe my plug-ins that were old were ok? Not sure. Anyone here who cannot download their discontinued plug-ins now?

As someone who uses motion vfx…. Insure hopemy licenses will keep working. Integrating MVFX into Creation Duite would be a dealmaker.

Maybe the notice was for non-Final Cut plug-in’s? I can still download my discontinued Final Cut plug-ins?

They also sent me this which I don’t really understand:

You can store the zip file with the installation package now. Kindly note that this will be disabled after March 12 as well.
