Looks like the Kiss of Death Apple was so fond of in the 2000s : They buy an attractive company just to kill innovation, name the CEO Vice-President of Something and then oust everybody after the mandatory 18 months
I think your answer is the right answer and I'm not happy about it. I guess we'll have to see how this plays out, but ugghh. Just saw a livestream where someone said the Resolve team within MotionVFX has been laid off. Jake Wipp makes good plugins for Resolve, he's gotta be licking his chops working for himself and leading the way in Resolve. Major competition just got wiped out.Pretty sure the answer to that is "sorry 'bout that, but you can switch to FCP full-time and pay the subscription to get those functions again!"
Been burned way too many times by "I bought something advertised as perpetual" followed by "Thing I bought is now a subscription, the version I have got disabled, and the consolation is 'three free months of basic tier subscription' for long-term customers." And those changes are deployed right in with app updates so you can't ignore it unless you just stop updating apps (which is a security risk). So sick of it.
Most FCP content is Motion content, so I will put money on this meaning a big expansion on Motion templates and content. Apple also hired Alex Lindsey not too long ago... Alex has been a big supporter of Motion for a long time. I have zero doubt he will at least be trying to steer them toward tighter integration and round-tripping between FCP and Motion. If they can do that, and they can come up with an answer to Blackmagic's cloud project server/colaborative editing I'd switch back to FCP.I'm curious why they're rolling this into FCPX and not Motion.
Yeah, at the very least what they should do is strip the activation and provide the current version of the the content and plugins and give the users that paid for them a window to download them. Obviously no expectation of future updates/fixes, but that's better than just pulling the rug. I just dropped $300 on DVR versions of their content last month. I will be furious at Apple if they manage to out Adobe Adobe in this situation.I think your answer is the right answer and I'm not happy about it. Great news.
I noticed a couple of days ago that it’s very difficult to find references to the DR and PP plugins on their site now. This explains why.
Just look at how they handled perpetual FCP customers, as I said previously. They dumped us, so I have no doubt they will dump DVR as well, in the same manner: Download your software installs and please exit stage left. Thanks for supporting us all these years... blah, blah, blah.Yeah, at the very least what they should do is strip the activation and provide the current version of the the content and plugins and give the users that paid for them a window to download them. i think inmusic is the company with more interest than apple. but i hope ni survives. Now maybe Apple can acquire Native Instruments. They have had some financial issues recently- would hate to see them disappear completely.
That would be such a confusing move. Specially since MotionVFX released just a little while ago the iPad app that works exclusively with the iPad version of Resolve.Patrick Sterling is reporting, in his YouTube channel, that he used to do some work for them, and he thinks they'll drop support for all but FCP. I use Resolve.
How did they dump us, exactly?Just look at how they handled perpetual FCP customers, as I said previously. If you are a recent user and only subscribed, you don't know about it. Long term users know. How did they dump us, exactly?
FCPX still works just like it did. The plugins still work. We even got updates.
I don’t feel dumped.
Maybe mO2 will finally work natively on Apple Silicon.
It has all been confusing for several weeks, until today. Finally, it makes sense. That would be such a confusing move. Specially since MotionVFX released just a little while ago the iPad app that works exclusively with the iPad version of Resolve.
Once they have enough subscribers they’ll start creating tiers and bumping up pricesCNBC knows the score….

Apple acquires video editing company MotionVFX to boost subscribers

Umm…what about the plug-ins we currently bought? Can we still access them?
Yeah, at the very least what they should do is give the users that paid for them a window to download them.
Some how missed your post. So this!Loved MotionVFX. Spent over $2k on their great plugins. I say “loved” because they recently moved to subscription only service and no longer sell plugins individually. And I’m guessing this news of Apple acquiring the company was the reason why they gave existing users the date of last Thursday to download everything they bought before it would be removed.
I reached out to them early March and asked about this and they said that I could still download my plug-ins after the date which I thought was interesting. At the time we did not know Apple was buying them. They sent out an email on February 26:
Action required ⚠️ Download your products by March 12.
Final days to download
Just a quick heads‑up: some of your older purchased products will be retired soon. To keep using them, please download them from your account via mInstaller — the last day to do it is March 12.
Maybe the notice was for non-Final Cut plug-in’s? I can still download my discontinued Final Cut plug-ins?Loved MotionVFX. Spent over $2k on their great plugins. They also sent me this which I don’t really understand:I reached out to them early March and asked about this and they said that I could still download my plug-ins after the date which I thought was interesting. At the time we did not know Apple was buying them.
Maybe my plug-ins that were old were ok? Not sure. Anyone here who cannot download their discontinued plug-ins now?
