of course, once the repair programme went out, it was very smooth. My point was that it took months for apple to acknowledge a problem with the phones, costing me money, if you fell into the group post apple acknowledging the issue, you are fine. Its just frustrating when apple will not accept a blatant issue for as long as possible.
It’s like a recall, except my blood pressure and not safety was involved.

It would be so high risk for a Android phone manufacturer to reduce the speed on the prosessor, because if you are dissatisfied with the product, it is highly likely that you switch to another brand.
Since it has the same operating system, the threshold for switching to another brand will be very low. In iOS, it's only a manufacturer and that is Apple

But even Apple could face the same problem.
The iPhone get slow, and you start looking for alternatives. Once you jump ship and pass to Android it can be hard to get you back as a customer.

My 4S with 45% degraded baterey has 0 throttling! It’s still benchmarking 100%.

So the newer phones have a battery defect and Apple is refusing to recall them and tricking us out of our own bought devices in the hopes we will pay them to upgrade.

This is coming from someone who has owned every iPhone since 3GS, an iPad, two macs, Apple TV, AirPort Express, and so on... This former fan who would recommend Apple to anybody, now tells people to avoid these scammers.
It’s more than a battery defect from what I’ve read...it’s about stopping a shutdown when the battery could deliver the load requested; also when the phone is cold.

So as a former fan are you now windows and android?

They lie about their focus on "smooth user experience". I've faced it with iPhone 6s still on warranty, been denied for repair / battery replacement by local authorized service company (apple has no stores in Russia) just because "according to apple standard tests the battery is ok" he told me. Despite it was draining just under mine and their eyes. Just like 23-25% to 16-17% over 10-15 minutes of 4G Safari serfing. And then it just shot down.
So, it was shittу faulty battery that was recalled for replacement a few months later, officially. I've faced it in July-August 2016 and they started the program only in November-December.
If they woud have throttling implemented, I shouldn't have noticed there were obvious problems with the shittу battery, and after a few months they would've told me something like "it's out of warranty now, pay for the next piece of shiт battery".
That's why they do it now, and should be sued for such a dishonourable and abusive "policy".

Holy s*** people... Virtually everything that runs on a battery suffers from degraded performance as the battery dies. Flashlight? This is one of the more idiotic moan-fests I've seen on MR (and that's really saying something). I think throttling is much better that shutting off (since it more accurately reflects the gradual degradation of the battery). I'm still on an iPhone 6, and yes, it's slow at times, but I'd much rather that than have it shut down arbitrarily.

Oh how I cry a little inside, when I think of days gone by, when you could un-clip the rear of the phone, and fit a brand new battery.
Did I mind it was a plastic back?
Honestly no. Not really, as long as it was made well.
Felt nice to the hand, had a little grip.
With the added bonus, if it was scratched, a new back could make it look like new again.

Sighs for the "good old days"
And the sad part it, it COULD be engineered back into phones again.
Even if just the lower 2/3rds of the back could be removed.

Oh for progress working against all of us..... the consumers..... :(

For you Nokia 3310 is available on Amazon. It has replaceable battery. Whats the difference paying $70 and getting your battery replaced for you in Apple Store than buying a new battery for same cost and replacing it yourself? iPhone never had repayable battery for a reason! The door takes so much precious space, much more than SIM card and they reduces even SIM card size twice. If iPhone had replaceable battery it has to be thicker, heavier and battery wouldn't work as long.

Why the slowdown when connected to the charger?
Using your phone while its charging wears lighting cable, don't do it.

You don’t expect such degradation 12 months on though, and calling it a “feature” is laughable.

The average user won’t think, “My phone has got slower and laggier I better change the battery to get 50% of my CPU back.”

They’ll think, “My phone has got slower and laggier, I better buy a new phone.”
However, since this feature was utilised to improve the user experience, and was not anything underhand.....
when someone took their phone into one of Apple's excellent service centres, the "genius" would have run a diagnosistic which would identify the battery issue, explained the reason for slow performance and recommended a new battery. How often has this happened?

I agree.
"Battery degradation detected. To reduce consumption click OK. Note: This may affect the speed of your iPhone."
Imagine your mom getting this message. Hell, even I don't want to see this message. I don't want to make this decisions. I have a feeling you can like using Android OS.

Can you tell me which is the app used to check the details of battery and throttling?
Does 0 throttling also reflects the performance is not slowed down in your day to day use?
Because I can see that my phone is slowed down with OS updates over the years.

What a joke.
My 6S is 13 month old and already slowed to half performance.
If this happens to all batteries, why are only phones 6 and above affected?

Even though it’s true that all batteries degrade, you can also use batteries that will be able to supply a high enough voltage for 2-3 years before having to resort to slow downs.

Your 4S also has lower requirements because it has weaker less demanding CPU, iPhone CPU speed doubles every year.

So as a former fan are you now windows and android?

Why is the 6 year old 4S battery perfectly capable to deliver the load requested? And not the newer 6, 6S, 7 batteries?

Those are defective batteries, under-designed with a slowdown timer after a year.

I am still with Apple devices since windows and android somehow manage to be worse even after this.

Then put a proportionally sized battery. Or a lower clocked processor.

What they are doing now is putting timed cpu performance, with subpar batteries and hiding it while pricing it like it has both. Do I really need to explain everything?

Your 4s runs an A5 chip which is fairly slow by today’s standards. I guess there really is any room left for throttling.

Conversely, A-series chips are already so fast, so Apple probably felt that the iPhone could take the hit to performance and still perform reasonably well. It could also be a consequence of the 64-bit processor? Maybe there’s a price to be paid for all that speed.

Because the 4s isn’t 64 bit and doesn’t have a bigger screen size and more electronics, is my guess or the internals of the 4s are not as sensitive for undisclosed reasons.

Either sell the 6, 6S or 7 with lower cpu performane, or sell it with high cpu performance and a battery capable to power it.

What we have now is bait and switch, provable deceptive business practices in any court.

Waiting for Congress to get in on this scam and force them recall these batteries.

I wonder if they'll just shut down the high speed cores in A10 and A11 to preserve battery life without affecting the low power cores. I don't know if that could be enough to solve the problem.
I read some iPhone 7 users experienced throttling, so maybe using only slow cores isn't enough, but I'm curious about that.

That’s one idea, but I am not familiar enough with the concept to decide if your suggestion would be feasible or not.

Been using Apple phones from the days of 3GS. And every single time knew that they were slowing down the phone somehow. Just that now there is proof!!

I guess this is it Apple. I can't imagine buying an iPhone X for 1500$ only so that you slow it down in a year.

This is as bad as the VW Emissions Scandal. Apple needs to be held accountable for the number of times I had to upgrade my phone!!

I’m not sure this is “provable” bait and switch as capacity also relates to cold weather. I’ll bet android wishes they had thought of this.

Congress the same congress and administration that just banished net neutrality? Ok then.

Do we really have to doublecheck our phones every month using some third party app, to be sure Apple is not stealing our paid cpu cores?

This is outrageous. The phones are bought not leased for free.
