And a previous article said the problem was inherent with the i9 chips -- they had two extra cores but no way to physically dissipate the extra heat generated in "turbo" mode. Pushing them too hard will result in reduced reliability.

So what exactly does this software fix do? Remove the thermal safety limit?

I’m sure Apple certainly new, like many of us, that it could be fixed in software, but I agree with others that they perhaps should have commented on it earlier. Purely because it might have reduced the fact that a lot of reviews of this significant upgraded MacBook were tainted by the throttling situation. But to be honest it doesn’t really matter, they fixed the issue quicker than expected which was a good move. Now people can complain about the real main issue, the pricing.

It (The 2018 MacBook Pro) was only released to the general public 16 (I'm crap at maths and probably mean 12) days ago. How quickly do you think they should have figured out the problem? Truth is, is shouldn't have happened at all, but hey, even the people that work at Apple are only human

I’ll await revised benchmarks and tests before praising the heavens. I refuse to believe thermal throttling can be significantly resolved through software - it’s basic physics! I hope they’ve sorted it but I’ll be surprised.
You are priceless.

Did they fix the intel power gadget app to fix this issue? Just kidding. Great if they could fix this through software. Hopefully this works and people haven't returned their laptops.

is everyone done bitching now? The smart people said it was a firmware or bug fix, which it was, but bangwagoners wanna jump on apple for everything :/

Done bitching, on this forum? Haha, no chance.

Literally the last thread had some idiot saying "With it's keyboard issues, thermal throttling and dongle hell this is the worst MacBook Pro ever"

Anyone that uses the phrase "dongle hell" should have an instant ban on here I think.

I can’t wait to see posts of regret of people returning their i9s for the Base 15 inch or the 2.6 i7.
Lol. I returned an i9 over the weekend and the i7 2.6 is our for delivery. I truly didn’t need the extra power and it was a spur of the moment decision.

The heat issues with the i9 concerned me a bit (not just the mbp, but pc laptops as well).

Apple is a freaking incredible company. Fix already rolled out and worked with the guy to replicate his conditions?

What more do you guys want? Sure, best case is that it doesn’t happen, but how cool is this?

Confirmed: Apple DOES care.

I guess that’s good! And yes depends on your needs, the i9 (should this update help much) might be overkill anyways for most people.

And there you have it. As suspected a software bug. This is exactly why I pay no attention to youtubers ever.

You take no issue with the claim Apple didn't detect this "software bug" before the computer was released? How can people be so unquestioning of this company?

nah maybe you missed the point. Complaining about everyone getting butthurt about the i9 and crying over it, and making it a big f**** deal when we knew all along it was just a matter of a software/bug fix... but look at the threads, people literally cancelled their orders LMAO
So you're complaining that folks jumped on Apple to complain about a real issue and because of their efforts Apple finally resolved it rather than test it before releasing it?

Gotcha.

I really can't believe this attitude. I remember this site's community being more critical and demanding of Apple in the past.

I was literally in the checkout, backed out and added the i9. I receive a discount through my firm, albeit a small discount.

My cousins are coming in stopping through on sat night, so I can apply that $276 towards dinner with them. Lol.
