i predict the the crown won't be used by people even half as much as apple thinks. looks cool though

I predict that you are wrong. For one thing: many actions can ONLY be done with the digital crown (like zooming) so people will get used to reaching for it.

Possible. But probably neither...

Could be. I am interested in how this plays out. Does the brand fanaticism completely define the user experience? or will there be buyer's remorse about the ill fitting chunk of smudged black reflective glass. Maybe both!

I'm pretty sure you can still pinch and such. The crown is a novelty that will wear off. It will be used for settings only in the end. People will not get into the habit of going back and forth from screen to crown. They will just stay on the screen if they can.

Yes, I honestly think they will block watch faces.

I think Apple, the freaks of control these days, will never allow you to have any face you want.

Not unless someone is able to hack the watch and open it up to unofficial apps.

At best I think devs will be able to design faces, Apple will view them, reject ANYTHING they don't like, and only allow thru a select amount.

You won't be seeing anything that had not been Censored by Apple on the watch you own, unlike on Android wear.

Not that I like Android Wear.
It's just that, for me, this is a major deal.

I know you enjoy only what Apple allows you to have, but I want to have what I want, irrespective of what they say.

And honestly........... I hope you can turn around in a few months time and prove me wrong.

I also think Apple will block 3rd party watch faces, for two reasons.

1) Telling time is something a watch needs to consistently do without and issues. 3rd party apps and functions aren't always reliable (example: 3rd party keyboards).

2) watch faces could be a source of revenue for Apple. Generation 1 folks can purchase a new watch face and get the feeling of having a new watch.

I'm a developer and have studied the UI in and out. And no, you definitely can NOT pinch to zoom. There's no point in doing so any way. The screen is so small that your fingers would block the screen when zooming out. When zooming in I suppose you would see the screen as your fingers separate, but you don't have much screen real estate to make your zooming precise, and you'd end up doing multiple pinches to zoom into the detail you want. Hence, not only is the digital crown your only option, it is actually the better option.

As for scrolling, you do have the option to swipe, but once again, I think people will prefer the precision of the crown scrolling to having to swipe the screen multiple times.

No wrinkles or arm hair allowed in Apple's world. Sorta creepy actually. ;)

You think this is bad, wait till you preorder and then have to wait two more weeks before you actually get the thing!
For me, those two weeks are pretty chill. The build up is great; watching the tracking numbers, seeing who got what email is a hoot. It's a ridiculously grand circus of unwarranted angst and camaraderie. It's the day it arrives that is a bit of a deflation. A big exhale, there it is, life goes on.

I'm getting a bit tired of hearing the 'it's our most personal device yet' slogan. It's been with us from the beginning and it sounds kinda weird when Tim, and Jonny and every single voiceover says it.

One day we'll have the Apple wireless suppository and then the Watch won't be Apple's most personal device yet.

I had a Mickey Mouse watch when I was a kid (still have it) so I'm sure I'll have that watch face for a while as well.
I am curious if we can disable the foot dancing that Mickey does (as shown in the video) as part of the watch face customization. If I want to relive my childhood where MMouse watches were a big deal, I'd like to keep it authentic to those watch faces and skip the animated embellishments. But that's just me. Anybody know?

I don't remember Apple ever having this kind of marketing strategy, meaning the slow drip of information such "coming soon" videos and telling you to check back later. It sounds like internet marketing for infoproducts.

Well if you think about it, it takes more marketing to promote a watch. For many, it's "Just a Watch" and since watches are one of the oldest accessories that people wear, and over time have not bothered to wear them due to owning a cell phone that can offer more than just telling the time, it takes a lot of promotion to get the public excited again.

Will it be possible to watch pornography on the watch, or can only Android watches do that?

Dude, that cracked me up haha.

Thats precisely what the digital crown is for. The crown will keep your fingers off the small screen for interactions that would require more than a tap.

I'll try one down the road at some point, just to see, but that digital crown control looks soooooooo hokey. I just could not see myself twiddling with it constantly.

I'm a developer too so we both know the object library is pretty basic atm. I'm sure it will be extended.
Also. I don't see much need for zooming at all outside of maps. So I'm going to stick with "the crown won't be used much"

Watching this train wreck gets better by the hour !!
Apple Flop 2015 !!!

Surely you're just stirring things up.

It'll sell like crazy to start, it's how it fares a few months out. Even if suddenly demand drops it simply doesn't matter. Apple will spin a good story and be fine.

About the only danger is Apple suffocating under an avalanche of cash... :)

Unbelievable, is this product for real? The future arrives April 24th.

As much as I want an Apple Watch I think I will wait until generation 2. Battery life is going to be an issue and I would not be surprised if next year's version is thinner. Right now I am happy with a fitbit and my iPhone but once the Apple Watch gets more health features like an oxygen sensor I will buy one. It is going to need time to mature like the first iPhone better off waiting if you can. This all may change once I try it in store though.

Oh, I had a mental "freudian" slip when I read the headline. It was "Gilded Tours" that immediately came to mind. I am wary about this push to pure fashion in their products.
