For me, outside of America, in Google Maps it comes up as "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)". Likewise the Persian Gulf is listed as "Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf)". In Apple Maps I only see the internationally recognised names, not the regional alternatives.

Mexico, hear me out, rename a puddle in Mexico City "The Gulf of Trump." Bonus points if its caused by sewage.

Stupid change taht only serves to distract us from all the other stupid going on. Never expected a tech company to make a stand, but would ahve been nice if it had a bit more spine.

So 1 person decides to rename it, while 96% of the other 8.2 billion people disagree, and Apple and Google changes it for the entire world ? 🤔

What world are we in...
They are following the official name in the database: https://www.usgs.gov/tools/geographic-names-information-system-gnis

What are they supposed to do, follow the official name for every other place but not the now called Gulf of America?

I think this whole thing is silly but Apple and Google follow the rules. It’s up to other people to get this changed back. Or leave it how it is and move on.

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.

Meanwhile we’re discovering Billions of wasted/laundered (I’d argue stolen) tax dollars and you people are concerned about the gulf’s name…
No, we’re not discovering anything of the sort. Some idiot who doesn’t understand how government works is canceling contracts and illegally shutting down Congressionally established agencies. And another idiot is illegally ignoring courts ordering him to stop, like the felon that he is.

Google has not changed it for the rest of the world. The rest of us see “Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)”. Presumably Apple will do the same?

It doesn't matter if you think what the current administration is doing is a good thing or not. It doesn't even matter if the actions they're taking are actually positive or not. Several of Trump's executive orders and actions are in direct violation of the Constitution.

You cannot just choose, as President, to override the constitution and its amendments, even if you think or know it is a positive thing. Doing so just makes having a constitution pointless and irrelevant.
Well said. Republicans should be just as concerned about this as Democrats—maybe even more-so since this is their political party that has given in to an amoral populist leader just because he can win them the election.

Also, to those who think this is a Donkey–Elephant debate, remember that many of us here are from other countries and are commenting from a more external (and possibly less biased?) perspective.

I hope so, but still.

I shouldn't even see Gulf of America. Nobody accepted it outside of the US, and I highly doubt it's a consensus in the US to start to rename things randomly like that.
