SCOTUS has no enforcement mechanism.
well, looking at the number of lawsuits that were filed against some of the orders he signed in the past few weeks, if he were going to make even more drastic changes I am sure there will be more lawsuits which eventually will end up with SCOTUS, but maybe I'm wrong ...

its still wild to me how much power the president of the United States has on his own. WILD. I was never fully aware of it until Trump took power but there have been so many instances where I was like how the F can he just decide this on his own, overnight. its truly mind boggling to me. In fact, it seems down right authoritarian.
It happened with Biden also, but he was usually in bed by 7PM.

The issue is he’s already illegally ignoring courts ordering him to stop. His VP said the courts don’t have jurisdiction to stop him. So will Congress impeach and convict him if he ignores a Supreme Court order.

I hope so, but still.

I shouldn't even see Gulf of America. Nobody accepted it outside of the US, and I highly doubt it's a consensus in the US to start to rename things randomly like that.
it is actually with the POTUS powers to do that, the other one he decided to rename was the one that Obama renamed ...
Lots of regions in the world do this, the one that I do remember is that up to some time in the at least mid 80s the Indian city of (today) Mumbai was actually Bombay ...

Is it a stupid thing to do? yes. is it illegal? no

Firing anyone who takes on the cases means no one takes on the cases. Filing lawsuits only begins a process. Then people in the justice department must take the case (or not) and start building a case. Any volunteers? I would guess not. So anyone assigned should be floating resumes. And if there is no one to process a case, the case goes nowhere... so nothing comes of it.

There’s a reason behind Trump's action. Biden signed an executive order to halt oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Thus, by renaming it to the Gulf of America, we can finally say, "Drill, baby, drill!" 🛢️

By the way, no one complained when Obama renamed it to Denali? 🙄

If his first term set any precedents, probably not. I don't really understand the US system, but it seems like a sitting president has legal immunity, especially if he can pardon himself from federal crimes. Over the next four years, I think we're going to see American government and democracy rigorously tested. I hope it can withstand the forces from within.

By any name Trump could decide to resume or halt drilling as the name makes zip difference. Denali isn't an international body of water that had the same name for centuries. And Denali was its original name before being renamed Mt McKinley. In 1n 1975, the Alaska Board of Geographic Names officially changed the name back to Denali and then later Obama acknowledged that nationally.

Top priority in this effort was to satisfy the emotional needs of individuals kicked in the head by a Budweiser Clydesdale; not to resolve any cartography issue.

Well said. Republicans should be just as concerned about this as Democrats—maybe even more-so since this is their political party that has given in to an amoral populist leader just because he can win them the election.

Also, to those who think this is a Donkey–Elephant debate, remember that many of us here are from other countries and are commenting from a more external (and possibly less biased?) perspective.
What Republicans? No such thing! There are none left. They are all Maga now.

This is just the beginning. Next, Mt. Rushmore will become Mt. USA. Eventually, he will issue an excutive order to be carved into the area of the rectangle on the left. Guess who will go into the rectangle on the right?

Silly petty nonsense and a waste of time and money.
Speaking of wasting money...the cost of relocating millions of Gazan's to a place that we've built millions of homes and providing healthcare for, yet he and the other President Musk are busy cutting services for Americans. How about providing homes and healthcare for Americans first? Remember -- It's MAGA not MGGA.

And Bengaluru used to called Bangalore but it’s not the same either. They didn’t try to change the name of Bay of Bengal to Bay of Delhi.

And odds are that the citizens of Mumbai changed the name of their own city and likely back to some original, pre Britain name. Way different than changing a name of an international body of water that had its name for centuries. And doing just for a whim to show some odd version of power
