Apple is in the process of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and changes are already being made to the Apple Maps app. When searching in the Maps app for Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico name is shown or the name is blank, but tapping into the area shows the "Gulf of America" wording.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is rolling out the Maps change in the United States today, so the name should shift for most U.S. users in the near future. Apple plans to change the name for all users globally in the future.

Google this week also made good on its promise to adopt the new naming, and "Gulf of America" is now visible in both Google Maps and Waze.

Google and Apple use data from the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) when naming world locations, and GNIS updated its database with the "Gulf of America" name change this week.

Google has explained that Maps users in the United States will see "Gulf of America" instead of "Gulf of Mexico," while users in Mexico will continue to see Gulf of Mexico. In the rest of the world, the name for the body of water between Mexico and Florida will continue to be named Gulf of Mexico, but Gulf of America is shown in parentheses below. Apple might adopt similar changes outside of the United States.

When U.S. President Donald Trump took office on January 20, one of his first orders was changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Other countries do not refer to the area as the Gulf of America and are not required to accept the U.S. name.

Trump also said that Alaskan mountain Denali was being renamed to Mt. McKinley, but Google Maps and Apple Maps have not yet made that change.

I’ve lived down here on the Gulf coast for over two decades…

No one down here is ever going to call it Gulf of America.

This is beyond f’in stupid.

Tim seem to have forgotten that Apple's image needs to survive longer than these next four years.
Tim is 64 years old now and may resign within those four years.

What else will he be remembered for, other than growing the company and making obscene amounts of money?
Can’t afford a blemish on his record on that homestretch, brought by some silly Trump tariffs or something.

It's weird to me that people act like America/American only refers to a country and not a continent/pair of continents.

Canadians and Mexicans live in North America too - it is thus appropriate to also call them Americans. The Gulf in question is completely surrounded by North America, and appropriately called the Gulf of America. It's not the Gulf of USA. Calling it the Gulf of Mexico was silly when only ~50% of its surrounding land is Mexico.

"America" has an *accepted* meaning to refer to the USA. "Americans" has an accepted meaning to refer to citizens of the USA.

Canadians and Mexicans are rightfully North Americans, but not Americans in the accepted way. I'm Canadian and don't you dare call me an American! hahaha

Trump is indeed referring to the USA whenever he says America, including this name change.

It’s the only country that matters. The US is the global hegemony and the globe is US centric whether you like it or not in the same way the solar system is heliocentric.

Some things are just true whether or not you like it or disagree.

Even Rome fell. So will the US, one day. It may be a great nation in many senses, but it's not the greatest in every, and is definitely not invincible.

For the last 4 years all we saw was the victim card played over and over again. Oh the left is coming for our guns, they’re coming after our freedom of speech, they’re cancelling our businesses. There was so much whining about every little thing that it was almost unbearable. Don’t tell me you don’t remember any of that.

A stolen land is a stolen land. Hardly is the word used to minimize the impact by the perpetrators.
Victimhood? That's what you call provably having the "guns" of the DOJ turned straight at you & weaponized? That's what you call provably having outlets such as Facebook/Twitter et al consoring speech at the behest of the Biden White House? That's what you call provably having businesses such as The Daily Wire's web traffic plummet & other business bankrupted because the State Department was actively using & engaging with tech designed to censor businesses with conservative-leaning opinions?

Yes I do remember VERY WELL all of that.

Regarding your stolen land canard, are you going to also make such a claim against the Indians who for centuries were "stealing" the land of other Indian tribes or does this only apply to others:rolleyes:

It's already obviously a heavily controlled marketing facade.

I want to know what is under it, because it's looking like something nasty.

Musk and many other tech bros have openly said they're hoping to live long enough for technology to develop to the point where they can "upload their consciousness" so their duplicate can carry on where they left off. I'm certain they're planning to establish legal status for their mechanical clones to give them that "right". They're probably planning to embed their copies in servers worldwide to better enable their reach in messing with everyone, as in the 1992 film "Lawnmower Man".

Good anime show about that: Pantheon.

Wonder where they the bad guy from ...

Do you have any actual proof besides the rambling of Fox n Friends?
It’s mind blowing that an agency is created to find this stuff, then they start announcing what they’ve found, and people just say “where’s the proof?” Do you have proof that they’re lying? If there is any possibility this stuff is true, we should be concerned. We aren’t even a month in.

To make everybody happy, let’s call it the gulf of the Americas we have south and north, divided by the Gulf .
Now that would actually be a good idea if the whole thing made any sense at all. Leave it like it is and has been. Has it really upset any of you Patriots that much? As an earlier poster said, this is just a distraction. I can’t believe so many fall for it..

Tim will be remembered for destroying Job’s legacy and transforming an innovative and exciting company in a boring one who just produces uninspired services and disappointing flops like Vision Pro or HomePod.

On the basis I am actually an expert in the domain of one of the things that they have found "proof" on and it is being described in the same terminology as a LSD tripping seer staring into monkey faeces spread on a wall and trying to extract meaning from it.

The biggest problem is that most people have literally no knowledge whatsoever or critical thinking ability or even the ability to define anything as arbitrary as proof of anything. Yet they take the abstract concept of stating that "we have proof" over what the definition of the proof is.

It is about as valid as me saying "I have proof the moon is made of chocolate"

They have to prove that they have proof with citable evidence and start legal proceedings. Instead we have arbitrary undocumented statement proof and circumvention of the courts.

If that is acceptable in any society, good luck and enjoy the gulag.

One thing this does show is that America needs to fund the Department of Education not close it down.

We're speaking English. It's not surprising that "America", by default, refers to English/British America (which is now the USA). It's much more common for the term to refer to the continent in Spanish, then in English.

Are those different names or localized spellings, such as Lisbon, Lisboa, and Lissabon?
Good point. The names are more than just localized spelling, they have old but common origins. They are as such not different in the same way the Gulf of Mexico and America differ.
