Apple are going to sell a ridiculous amount of the LCD notch phones.

This could be the product that pushes them into the over a trillion dollars stock market valuation.

Unless its technically possible for the cameras and sensors and speaker to work through a screen. you are going to have a notch.
Come on people who want no notch but want full screen, please use your brain and think what is possible and what is not. Even Apple is not a magician.

The cheapest model wont have OLED. I can bet all my money for this.

Why would they include OLED for the cheapest model? While they can still sell the old one...

In 2019/2020 "all"models will have OLED. Till then they will milk the older screens.

For now they dont have to include it. It would be stupid if they did money wise.

Lovely now whole lineup will have a wonderful RGB fiesta light bleed on the edges.

Ditching JD also means no fingerprint sensor across the whole screen.

Weren’t you aware? Steve Jobs became perfect and his mistakes were not his but somebody else’s. Also, Apple is doomed because they make something people on MR don’t like.

EXACTLY! Just like 'some' of MacRumors readers said that Apple was dead when they released the iPod!!! Oh my days - a computer company releasing a music player. How desperate :)
And just look what developed since and how the digital world changed :) :) :)
[doublepost=1527589257][/doublepost]I can't stand some of the negativity on this site. Hey, if you don't like the iPhone X, the notch, the screen - easy, make and design your own since you are such experts or go back 15 years and stick with your Nokia 3210!

Some humans are so greedy and unappreciative!

Will we still be doing this 3 iPhone thing in 2019?? iPhone 9, iPhone 9+, and iPhone XI?

Let's get back on to just having 2. Or maybe even just one. iPhone X.1 Puma?

This notch thing is becoming the new "antenna bands" on the back of the older iPhones. I swear some people would never ever be satisfied no matter what and they will always find something to complain about. I just can't imagine how the notch does bother me. If they get rid of it, still fine but for me honestly does not make that much difference.

It's hard to find excuses for the notch, isn't it?
The notch is like a scratch on the phone's screen or a dead pixel in the middle on the monitor. It's noticeable and it objectively bothers anybody but our brains are able to adapt and in a few days we learn to ignore the defect and live with it like it's not even there.
This is why future iphone's are rumored to have smaller notches and eventually completely eliminate them. If the notch was "invisible" and absolutely "not a problem", Apple would not work in the direction of completely eliminating it. But hey in 2020 the new notch-less iphone will be marketed and a clear evolution in design and the best iphone design yet so a lot of people will feel compelled to buy it.

So we have 0 leaks for 2018 iPhones but ton of leaks for 2019. Apple is either slowing down (and is doomed™) or really cracked down on the leakers.

As Apple continues its shift from LCD to OLED technology for its iPhones, reports have indicated that two out of the three iPhone models planned for launch around the usual September timeframe this year will offer OLED displays - a second-generation iPhone X and a larger "iPhone X Plus." The lowest-cost option is said to be a new 6.1-inch model with a similar full-face display as seen on the iPhone X, but it will reportedly be an LCD rather than OLED display.

Previous rumors have suggested Apple will complete its transition to OLED in 2019, with all models adopting the technology. A new report from South Korea's ET News is now adding its voice to the claim [Google Translate] based on information from its sources. While this isn't the first time we've heard this rumor and it does make sense based on Apple's trajectory, it appears the financial markets are taking this specific rumor fairly seriously. Reuters notes that shares of Japan Display fell as much as 20 percent today on the news (though they have recovered somewhat and are now down 10 percent), while Bloomberg points out that Sharp's shares fell 4 percent.

Japan Display is currently an LCD display supplier for the iPhone, and while it is moving to develop OLED technology, it will only just be starting up in 2019. That timing and lack of experience will make it difficult for Japan Display to compete against Samsung and other OLED vendors that are further along with the technology.

Samsung is currently the sole OLED display supplier for the iPhone X, but Apple has reportedly invested billions of dollars to help LG get up and running with the technology, and LG has been rumored to be the supplier for this year's "iPhone X Plus."

Price?

Why are we posting rumors about 2019 phones when 2018 phones haven’t even launched yet?

That's one way to look at it.
I don't see the notch as a part of the screen. And do you want to know why? Because is not part of the screen. And since it is not part of the screen, it can't be or look like a dead pixel either.
Is it perfect design? Far from it. Is not there to make the phone look beautiful but is there due to technology limitations. They could not add all these cameras and sensors under display just yet. I am fine with it. When the time is right and they figure way to place that technology under display, they will get rid of the notch. Until then I will enjoy it without urge for crying.

I'd like the X to rotate the icons horizontally, like the 7Plus and 8Plus

Others have no notch. Or use a transparent notch.

That's one way to look at it.

Be serious man, these excuses are getting ridiculous. It's literally a cut into the screen.

Is not there to make the phone look beautiful but is there due to technology limitations. They could not add all these cameras and sensors under display just yet.

Yeah it's not like they couldn't have simply used a full top bezel or provide a software alternative to hide the notch for people that don't like it because believe it of not everybody is like you.

Don’t care either way. If the notch keeps you from buying a phone, that’s too bad. I’m loving my X.

Right now Apple is the only smartphone company that has a reliable and relatively secure Face ID. When Apple released it experts said that Apple had at least a 2 year lead on the technology. I’m sure someone somewhere is having problems with Face ID but you don’t hear much news about it failing, and if a large number of people were having problems I guarantee that all the tech sites would be all over both the problem and Apple. It must work for most people pretty well.

I am not one of the people who has an iPhone X although my wife does. I know she doesn’t think about it because she doesn’t have problems with it.

It is known that Samsung, and probably other Android based phones are working on their own secure Face ID. They have a phone unlock Face feature, and have for years, but no commercial program uses it for ID authentication. It can be fooled by a photograph.

Unless Samsung or someone else invents a totally new technology then when Face ID comes to Android it will either have a notch or a large bezel. No one has a thru the screen set of cameras and IR light sources that work, at least not yet. Android may wait until they have something like this but I doubt it. They need to be able to match other top end smartphone manufacturers feature for feature.

I think within 2 years from now Samsung will have a full length screen with their Face ID technology. So I think they will also have a notch, as a large bezel would probably torque off more people than a notch.
