That makes no sense.. if we are out to dinner and I pay the bill say its $110 and you apple cash me your half $55... Why would i return your half and then another $55 on top of that?
I don’t think this about sharing or splitting the bill though. ‘Dinner’s on me” suggests you are paying the lot. But the cash exchange doesn’t really support this, unless as others have suggested person 2 already paid the whole bill (of $55) in the restaurant. I think it’s the ad that makes no sense - to me anyway. My head is spinning now.

A lot of people I know use Zelle only because it’s an instant balance, Apple Pay cash is sorta..for Apple pay transactions but not bank balance. It would be nice to have that as available balance to use in the event Apple Pay is not available and you need to use a card, etc

But I love Apple pay cash, it’s very convenient

I use Zelle because it's instant cash, in my bank account from their bank account, no funny business. No having to provide cards and making sure it's debit or else there will be a charge... none of that crap.

I always have a hard time understanding why folks use a third party to transfer money when there's an 80% chance that the two banks shuffling the money through the third party can just transfer amongst themselves faster, more secure, and free.

Did you also force them to buy iPhones and set up Apple Pay with a bank account so they can use it?

Really I think Apple Pay is better, but I haven't even bothered setting it up cause nobody and nothing uses it, and unfortunately half my friends use Android phones too.

No one in my circle uses Apple Cash, and 9 out of 10 people have iPhones.

For quick payment, it's always Venmo, Paypal, or Zelle.

The funny part about all this is that in the Apple 1st party app ecosystem, I really only use Wallet (for tickets/credit card). Everything else has been substituted with another 3rd party app.

Some people aren't aware of Zelle. Others actually do use Paypal pretty extensively. Venmo seems to be a millennial thing. Convenient though. The nice part about Paypal/Venmo is I usually just shuffle money between friends. So it's almost like the money jars just move from one friend to another. Don't really have to worry about transferring money out of your bank accounts after the initial deposit.

A Monzo or a Sterling Bank account in the UK will give you much the same thing.

I regularly pay at contactless using my Apple Watch and a Monzo account. Payments in and out appear instantly on the iPhone. Contactless watch payments are not limited to £30 (just contactless cards) and confirmations generally appear on the iPhone before the staff member has had time to print and tear off the receipt. Their apps make it very easy to transfer money, split bills at a restaurant, etc.

I have both accounts, although I have been using Sterling more as I like they don't restrict how much you can withdraw abroad.

Some banks don't work with Zelle. Better to have something that always works. I was recently in college with people from all over the US and the world, and everyone used Venmo. Last thing you want is to awkwardly figure out how to pay someone for the food they just gave you.

PayPal is the most confusing thing to use. Setting up the account, it kept failing to verify my regular old Chase bank account, took 8 tries. And then I had no idea how to send or receive money after that, so I quit before I could figure it out.

Not sure how you can have trouble. I thought it was straight forward. You set up the bank routing numbers and they deposit some pennies. You just input those penny numbers to verify.

Granted, I signed up for Paypal in the early 2000s when Ebay first started taking Paypal. Maybe the process has changed since then

One of my neighbors and I always passed the same $20 bill back and forth (I'm walking to the market, need anything?") Now we just text the same $20 bucks back and forth. Very handy.

It's still the same. Maybe that's what's wrong, old issues that never got fixed. It kept saying "unknown error, try again later" either before they sent the cents or after I entered the amount. Also, this is kinda on me cause I was new to bank accounts, but it took me forever to find my banking numbers; Venmo didn't ask for any of that, so I don't see why Paypal needs it.
