makes sense, given thier naming conventions for the others. Could not care what they call it, Get rid of the annual updates and improve the quality of the product.

I think it's a good idea. Some people can't remember what operating system they have because of the OS X thing. Some apple customers are... Weird like that.

Makes perfect sense to me -- good branding. OS X was original Mac OS X. Somehow the Mac got kicked to the curb but I don't know why because OS X isn't all that descriptive of a name. It's seems like its a generic OS because few realize it's not OS "ex" but OS ten. Even when OS X came out people still called it OS "ex". That should have been a clue.

Couldn't agree more. Ever since they removed the "Mac" from Mac OS X, I've been saying they removed the wrong end. The whole OS Ten just doesn't make any sense any longer. We are at the 11th iteration of OS Ten and frankly, it just sounds dumb. The version number will still be 10.12 or 11.0 or whatever, but let the product name be macOS pretty please.

But now iOS makes no sense anymore...
Huh? Of course it does. iOS is for iDevices (iPhone & iPad), macOS for Macs and so on. The product that doesn't fit in with this, is the iMac, but MacDesk just sounds wrong :)

Change the name - why not? You are still running the same skeleton of an OS Steve Jobs' NEXT created all those years ago. At what point does it become XI? Something actually new?

Nope. The no-space thing looks retarded. How about Mac OS 11? It fits with the normal naming conventions starting with Mac OS 8.

Actually, I just hope it isn't OS X 10.12. After OS X 10.9, it should've gone to Mac OS 11.

See, that just looks messed up.

Serioulsy? Still people haven't got a clue about the numberingconventions for the OS?

I think SJ said OS X naming was for a decade or more. It's been all of that.

Also, who really cares what it's named?

He actually said 20 - 25 years. So there is proably going to be at least another 3 versions of OS 10. Unless they have made such a huge leap forward in developing the next generation.

So now apple doesn't even name things correctly anymore. Yet the biggest schill on the board has a go at people on twitter about what to call Apple iToys. What a cock.

The quality and improvements are going down the toilet so why not go back to a name that is associated with a pile of crap that was pre OS 10. Wonder if we'll get system extensions back and the little black bomb when they fail to load. Exciting times ahead! Woohoo!

I have a bad feeling about WWDC this year.

Almost every single news or rumour to come from Apple in the past year has been bad. The latest include app subscriptions and ads in the App Store. No thanks; I hate subscriptions with a vengeance and the same with ads.

The end of iTunes downloads? Two rumours suggests there's a fire. I'd use a mix of Amazon and CDs if iTunes shut down.

The whole approach Apple is taking under Cook is encouraging me to look at alternatives to Apple and technology in general. I have fallen out of love with the tech world. It is obsessed with ripping people off with IAPs and subscriptions, and there is nothing exciting anymore. Everything is static. Music has died; culture has died; hardware and software have atrophied. The world is running madly and going nowhere.

Thanks for that comment. I've been thinking the same thing. We've got to create positive, beautiful culture ourselves now.

I know it's just a question about legacy naming, but I will miss OS X... Part of my growing up with computers...

macOS... 11 right? macOS 10.12? This will forever change the way we talk about the Mac operating system. Monday is going to be huge! Excitement!

Nope, I really just care about the new MacBook Pro at this point.

In German it's pronounced OS "ix" which obviously is a reference to the machine planet.

So will we get "macBook" and "macPro" and "macMini" now?
No, for the same reason that we don't already have 'appleWatch' and 'appleTV' and 'appleMusic'.

This is a naming scheme for operating systems only.

watchOS, iOS, tvOS, macOS.

But Apple doesn't sell servers anymore.... =)

It does seem like Apple has a competitive advantage waiting in the wings for the server market, and that is the Apple A-series ARM processor. Servers are headed toward ARM (isn't everything headed toward ARM these days?) and Apple really does have the most powerful ARM CPUs going. The problem is that every one they can make can just as easily be put into an iPhone or iPad.
