more clickbait.

remember this is the company who has such tiny teams of core engineers that they constantly get ripped of one project to get something else out the door.

i cant wait to see the day when theres an apple service center and some guy walks in expecting to buy a computer.

a week ago this rumor was nothing now its a full blown car with a date? lol.

People talk about this like this is something you can achieve without the products. It's so funny.

They make good products, but far from perfect as some would lead you to believe. If has an Apple logo on it, it will sell.

Electric cars aren't new, Apple only needs a good battery, maps and software.

In 5 years, you'll want an Apple car so bad it will be painful.

I'm sure we will.

I wonder if this'll be one of those long-rumored projects that is actually going to be released, like the iPhone. If I recall correctly, there were rumors about a phone made by Apple as early as 1999, when they acquired the domain www.iphone.org. It's never too early to speculate (aside from the problem of getting too hyped up so early, if the Apple Car will even come to fruition).

I hope it comes in more colors than white, black, and space grey. :D

Making cars does not seem like an Apple thing to do... but maybe they have something in mind that would make it worth it? I guess we'll see.

Look around. 98% of the cars on the road today are white, black, or space grey. Maybe a couple ProductRedTM. ;)

Apple and Tesla Car Companies.

Once a mass produced car is on the road by these 2 companies....expect a super fast crashing of the gasoline car market..

Example to look at smart phones...blackberry was so strong, but then it was over and too late to change courses.

Here is where they will win and why.

1.Free to low cost energy - It will seem silly to line up and pay for gas - expect a wireless refill system in time..maybe a advanced home system thats wireless.
2.repairs - very few repairs will be needed...gasoline car so many issues and recalls.
3.Easy to use and drive...more options..easier to deal with the brand over a dealership..no one wants a dealership model.
4.Brand Support - Both companies are loved and trusted.
5.Profits - Higher Profits and bigger Margins.
6.Manufacturing - New equipment and more robots involved.
7.Safety - Tesla has already show - putting the battery at the bottom makes more room and a safer car with less deaths.
8.Gasoline - there is no future for these cars and energy.

please add more ideas that you think could make for a electric car model over gasoline.

That would be my guess. The freaking Apple Watch took nearly that long from concept to shipping, now they're going from zero to cars? It pins the BS meter.

Sad thing is Bloomberg is considered reliable by the rest of the media. So expect this to be the top story on CNBC tomorrow morning. If this isn't some massive trolling by Apple then I find it baffling that they wouldn't do their own leaking to basically pour water on this fire.

Few years back Apple said they will make Appliances such as Laundry Machines, yep that never happened and now they are jumping on the next big mistake.

hmm, i guess i'll start saving now. not exactly an impulse purchase for me...

I hope that Apple assigns a better design group to its car project than it did for the Apple watch.

According to Wikipedia, Saturn was able to go from blank slate to a factory, workforce, and car in 7 years. So maybe 5 years is possible, but definitely a stretch.
What other Apple products will suffer in this timeframe due to diverted resources?

Isn't Titan Saturn's largest moon? Perhaps the origin of the project name?

EDIT: Just read the Wikipedia article on Saturn and now even more convinced that the project name is related....as Project Saturn was GM's codename that just happened to end up as the brand name later.

Alex C. Mair began discussions of a "revolutionary new, small-car project codenamed 'Saturn'" in June, 1982. In November, 1983, the Saturn idea was publicized by General Motors' Chairman Roger B. Smith and GM's President F. James McDonald. Twelve months later, the first Saturn demonstration vehicle was revealed. On January 7, 1985, the Saturn Corporation was officially founded

Unless something has changed radically at Apple, and really recently, buzz is something they care about not at all. They could buzz any product they wanted to, especially ones we have a real good idea are coming, but they steadfastly refrain from doing so. This makes no sense on every possible level. I just can't buy it.

They don't really create the buzz or have to create it. The media starts it and it spreads like wildfire.

----------

It's evident in everything Apple does that they work very hard to build customer loyalty.

Very true, and a car would be no different. They will even take it to the next level. Every business on earth would love to have loyal customers like Apple.

Apple doesn't even have wireless charging for the iPhone let alone charging a car battery pack.

Remember when Apple said they were going to make a watch with a display that wrapped around your wrist? Remember when they said they would make a television?

Yeah, me either. Those announcements didn't come from Apple. Neither did this one.

UGGGGG. I am NOT looking forward to 5 years of rumors with no product announcement. I'm already getting tired of them.

Complains when we get lame rumors about Jobs movies and Beats. But when we actually get some pretty cool rumors, what do they do... complain more.

A good list already.

As battery technology advances cars will have greater range and faster recharge times. Electric motors last a very long time and if battery packs are easy to swap out people may keep cars longer, replacing aging batteries with newer, more efficient batteries. The cost of ownership might actually be lower long term.

As it is now older cars now become junk essentially when their motors and engine related peripherals wear out. Catalytic convertors are expensive, and emissions systems are a nightmare of complicated hoses and valves, fuel systems are just as complicated with pumps and pipes and vacuum seals etc.

Make a simple electric car with modular components that are easy to replace, and in a few years combustion engines will be seen as the dinosaur burning dinosaurs that they are.

rumors have suggested that it might resemble a miniva

BIG like. The Minivan is a very useful vehicle. It can be sized down or up easily from a basic chassis.

I hope they also bring out a Full Size Extended Body Passenger and Cargo van line. This too can be extended from something just above the larger minivans all the way up to something like we have for our farm to make deliveries and carry livestock.

Does Apple have any history of responding to rumors? Maybe it's happened, but I can't recall any instances.
