the first ipad was also introduce in october, so this is a good guess for new product from apple.

It’s hilarious. The Android fanboys are already saying Apple is copying Samsung. Even though Apple most likely has been developing this for a very long time.

1 month after the iPhone release, makes sense.

Yes, probably around the same time or just before the iPads are launched if they don't come with the phones.

But I don't think they will be announced at a separate event. I think that Apple will do as they did with WWDC and drop all the talk of sales, retail stores etc. Save that for the earnings calls. Instead they will have a big iOS event. Start with the iPhones, then the iPads then talk about how they added features to iOS 8 to expand on their idea of the iPhone/iPad as not only being their own devices but connections to our world in general. And to go along with this idea they are pleased as punch to be releasing an new Apple TV. And then they will pull a surprise and present the iWatch. And so on.

Pricing?

I'm wondering what the price point will be for these watches...I really want one but don't want to spend more than a few hundred. Any rumors on price?

change that mockup please :)

I don't dislike the mockup. In fact I think the idea of a single band is one of the best. Why try to make it look like something old and traditional. The only disagreement I have is the vertical look. That works in some positions but I also hope that,if this were a legit mockup, it can orientate itself and change views appropriately

Yeah, i'll definitely have to give up buying some of the stuff they are going to be releasing. Can't spend $2,000 in 2 months on electronics.

It's called saving up your money

Maybe but if they're not first out the door, then that does open the door to those sorts of criticisms.

Granted, I think Samsung banged this out, based on rumors that apple was working on one but still they (Samsung) were the first out.

Big Dollars.

Apple is probably pitching this as a luxury item at first. Based on how they are positioning themselves with the hiring several folks believed to be working on this project.

I would be shocked if it is less than $299. Prob $500 gets you in the door.

Even that is a bit high for me. If I have an iPhone to carry anyway, I am not sure of too many scenarios where I would need to have access like an iWatch.

Definitely, not for $100-$200 bucks.

I hope a MiniPhone is incorporated in this so I have a reason to say 'Talk to the Hand!".

The only way I would buy the first iteration would be if the design trumped the technology. If it was something cool enough to keep past the usefulness of the technology.
Otherwise I would skip the first version and wait for the 2nd gen.

I'm not sold on any sort of iWatch yet (though to be fair, Apple hasn't officially pitched me anything yet).

'wearables' tech gadgets seem to be forced. What's better then pulling out your 4-5 in smartphone? A watch is JUST BARELY more convenient to look at then pulling out your phone, and the Google Glass consensus has already been made. It doesn't help that at this point I have lower expectations for Apple venturing into brand new markets since Steve is gone.

Regardless, Apple products are of such high quality that If I had the money, I would buy one for the experience. :apple:

You know what would be the REAL game changer? Google glass in the shape of a CONTACT LENSE. That would appeal to EVERYONE, as it would be a hardly noticeable device, like a cell phone. That is really wear wearables needs to go IMO.

I dont think that Apple will make 2 events in one month. October is for ipads/mac and maybe apple tv

Do you think the iWatch will have GPS built in for measuring distances while out running and walking. I hope it does but i think it may not as this could add quite a bit of bulk to the watch and also kill battery life. I use runkeeper.com on my iPhone at the moment and think its great, be i would be even better if i could leave my phone at home and just wear an iWatch.

I think it'll have an m8 processor that shares info with the m8 that will be in the iPhone 8.

This is so that it can have limited functionality while not near your phone (steps, calories, heart rate) all stored locally until the info is dumped to Health on your phone.

No they weren't the first. We already had other smart watches before them.

We even had an Android phone/watch before Samsung's smartwatch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z1_Android_Watch-Phone, and a flood of Chinese-made Android watches too. Go Aliexpress and search for smart watch, there are so many of them.

Calorie consumption measured through the skin would be ridiculous advancement. I have no idea how it could possibly work, but I'd love to believe that they've figured out something nuts.

Most likely the analyst is getting calorie expenditure ( aka counting steps & motion ) mixed up. I want to believe though!
