It's just might assumption based on two things:
  • I have never heard of any kick backs of the sorts
  • TV manufacturers are actually interested in offering this feature for free because they want to sell their products.
Do you believe that Apple is offering Samsung kickbacks for adding support for AirPlay 2, iTunes and TV apps to their TVs?

I would not know this for sure but it seems unlikely. Regardless if the kickbacks are involved or not the fact is Netflix app is everywhere now. And I do know that I can run Netflix in any web browser - no kickbacks involved :)

I have a Sony remote with a dedicated Netflix button on the remote that launches the built-in app. I guarantee Netflix paid Sony something for that placement.

Too late to this market to start their own thing and have it be a hugely successful content creator IMO. They should buy Netflix.

We just use the apps on our smart tv. Works a treat and is free after paying the Amazon and netflix subscription. We also have an over the air antenna to watch pbs, the Good Place, and Orville. Otherwise bbc shows, netflix originals or amazon prime (hello Expanse and Bosch).

The only people happy with so much subscriptions are the content creators... movie studios are selling licenses to multiple vendors.
I have seen this over and over again, whenever there is anything new everyone jumps on it then the capitalist market takes down each one right and left to leave only few to a couple competitors...

Just like Windows or MacOS, iOS or Android, Xbox or Playstation... you get the idea...

It's a good thing that Apple is providing it's original content for free for us users. Judging from some of the stuff they have/had in development, it didn't show much promise (to me).

It’s never too late to market for entertainment. All it takes is one hit to be on top. And Apple has the resources and products to stay there. They may well buy Netflix in a few years when Netflix is drowning in debt, have lost their best content producers and subscribers are bailing for other streaming services.

One hit lasts a weekend and 90% have binge watched all episodes. That’s the Netflix dilemma, who gains customers in new markets, but loses them in established markets.

I just can speak for the german market, where Netflix has a limited catalogue. When Netflix arrived here, it was a must have.

But most people i know stopped their subscription soon after, because the quality of their own content is mostly lousy, tons of stupid marvel content for 8 year olds, cheap violence „we seen that already“ shows and their hit shows have a large quality drop with every following season.

Result is, most people take Amazon Prime, who has much more movies, good shows every couple of months and you can buy films and tv shows, get free music streaming... and all that for half the money of a year Netflix.

Apple will have one or two shows produced with a single season and the stuff xou get anywhere else. To watch it on your tv you got to buy their expensive apple tv box. I really don't see them surviving in the streaming tank.

They just can show what anybody already knows from Netflix and Amazon. And their own content is just enough for a one month subscription a year.

I have similar remote. If Netflix paid Sony for it, do you expect them to pay Apple for similar button? Is Apple going to come up with similar remote? If they do, then perhaps netflix might consider Apple fees. On the other hand, they already have this button on TV remote. Apple TV is simply redundant (and requires use of two remotes which is a hassle) in this case.

You’re entitled to your opinion, which I don’t share.

However, Apples video service will not require an Apple TV. They’ve already entered into agreements with major TV manufacturers to release Airplay 2, iTunes and other apps and services.

So again, all it takes is one hit, and it doesn’t necessarily have to follow the Netflix model of binge releasing. HBO still releases episodes weekely, but even Netflix does that too, hit shows like FULLER HOUSE are released weekly, for instance.

Moreover, the days of every Service having the same studio catalogue of movies and TV shows are fast coming to an end. Much of Amazons content is licensed, and most of that will get pulled back over the next year or two as all major studios launch their own services.

Apple is getting in at the perfect time, having learned a lot about what to do and what not to do from companies like Amazon and Netflix. Heck, the only reason I even have Amazon Prime Video is because of the free shipping, otherwise I wouldn’t pay for it, nothing worth watching for me.
