This needs to happen to fill the education space. Mac labs looking to upgrade won’t go down to the 24” color iMac, and schools certainly won’t pay for the mini + separate monitor. Apple needs to fix this!

I couldn't disagree more. How long has Apple had 5k screens in the iMac, 2014? For most users that CPU is getting long in the tooth but the monitor is still very usable and probably will be for at least another 5 years.
Yeah but if they’re gonna sell a standalone display for the same price as a full iMac it sure as hell should have mini led and promotion and not be that same dated screen🙄

You know for pros, a computer with a built in monitor doesn’t really make any sense. Why is this even a thing? Buy a really good computer and a really good monitor. And then when that computer becomes obsolete, buy another really good computer and use the same monitor. Thats just the way things should work. It seems like Apple has fried the brains of people around here. I bet people are so brainwashed now they will be upset if their computers are in any way upgradable too.
100% disagree with you.

At this point I shopped for weeks for components surrounding a Mac Studio with a total budget of 5000 CAD, and I can't find anything decent to replace my M1 iMac. It is perfect, except for the speed and lack of screen estate.

Monitors don't have speakers or a webcam or the speaker and webcam sucks or pixel density sucks. I took a look at the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 (the pixel density sucks) and Logitech Brio 4K (I still prefer the 1080p camera of the iMac) and maybe HomePods, but this is too much of a price to be paid just to get what I want. Plus all the wires...

Last night I was crunching numbers on replacing my 2019 iMac — it's fine may hand it to my son in a year or two.

I want another 27 or 30 inch iMac. I'm not paying +$1,900 Canadian for the Studio monitor to pair with a MacMini or MacStudio. I'll find an alternate cheaper 4K monitor if I go that route.

Or I just cross my fingers and wait for a bigger iMac or at least the M2 iMac now although if it's like the M2 MBA, the chip upgrade is not that significant.

With a high end iMac, I think the Studio makes more sense. We are in a transition with Apple Silicon that will see many changes every year. If you separate your monitor that rarely needs to be upgraded, you can upgrade your machine more frequently without having to get a new display every time.

Anyone else feel the trashcan Mac Pro was just ahead of its time? I could easily see it now with an M series chip

I see your point, it would definitely work better now, but it just had a bad vibe right from the start. Maybe it’s Schiller’s fault with “can’t innovate anymore my ass” but at least he had the ”courage” to say that right.

It was just trying too hard. It got the nickname trash can instantly before anyone even knew about the problems.

I really don't see the point of an iMac Pro with the Mac Studio and Mac Studio Display available. Those users that need that power (and I used to be one of them) typically prefer to have a separate monitor/computer anyway. You buy a really good display and then keep it for 8+ years and just have to switch out the system when you need more power.

What is needed, IMO, is that second prototype. Just a M1 (or M2 now) with a nice bigger display (27-30" at 5K resolution or higher) for people who want an all in one but bigger than 24" but don't need Max or Ultra performance or want to spend $3K+ on such a device. But please give us an option with black bezels!

Not really sure what Apple is waiting for in regards to the 27".

One can hope that it signals a move away from the AIO form factor for non-entry level machines. AIOs are environmental nightmares as the useful life of the monitor is far greater than the cpu but there is no (good) way to use them (iMacs) as an external monitor. Would be really nice if Apple developed a way to do this for old iMacs.
Can make much more profit from a Mac studio plus Mac studio display would have been the calculation.

I used one imac 27” 5k for 6 years and it was a fantastic machine, now im on a 32” monitor and there is no way back to the tiny 27”. I will wait for the imac 32” 😂

Actually most people upgrade their monitor at the same time as the computer. Workplaces certainly tend to, and so do home users. Agree there is no need, but there is human behaviour for you.
Also, an AIO makes sense in small rooms where the owner hates cables everywhere.

Its time they move to 32 inches now, 27 inch is too close to 24 inch.
Well, if they do then they might as well discontinue both the current 27" Studio Display and the 32" Studio Display XDR at the same time. Because who in their right mind would get either of those if you can get some sort of all-in-one-probably-faster-than-Mac Studio-iMac with a 32" display?

Apple is always meticulously petty about segmentation and pricing, and will simply not allow two products to overlap on key specs and potentially cannibalise sales of one another.

For this reason, I firmly believe a new iMac Pro is not going larger than 27" if the display is indeed the same type of XDR that you can already get in the standalone 32" SD XDR.

Apple either discontinues SD XDR 32" post 32" XDR iMac launch, or it lets the SD XDR 32" stay in the lineup and gives us no more than a 27" display for the XDR iMac.

24" and 27" seem awfully close to each other. I would hope they use the slimmer bezels to bump the larger iMac screen size rather than shrink the case, if it makes a return.
I'm definitely not getting one if the chin makes a return like it did on the 24" M1 iMac.

Whatever the display size, I need Apple to do something new with the design.

I also think it would be an obvious opportunity to give us the first Mac with FaceID -The new display notch will undoubtedly be there, and the body will most likely be slimmer and less user-upgradable than ever.

The 24" iMac was cute, but the design was not bold enough and the specs unimpressive (for an iMac).

Apple needs to go all out with this new iMac!

Again, I can't see how/where a next gen 27" 5K iMac would fit in Apple's lineup given the current price points - a base model Mac Mini and a 5K Monitor (LG's 27MD5KL-B) would come out to around $2K USD w/taxes and such while the same Mac Mini and a Studio Display would only be about $300 or so more. When it came time to upgrade, you'd still have a solid monitor and you'd only be out the cost of a new Mini - vastly more economical any way you cut it (esp. if you go with a cheaper monitor).
