When I looked at the terms I believe it required an Enterprise Developer account ($299, not the $99 one) so that would knock a few less serious folks out. Plus the prioritized based on developers with Apps already published in the store...

It didn't - it only required the $99 account. Actually I thought the opposite - the vast majority of serious "consumer TV app" developers are going to be your $99 variety. Enterprise developers are doing in-house stuff for businesses and don't even have App Store apps. (Some companies, like the one I worked for, have both types of accounts for that reason).

Better deal than when they charged us a $1000 for the Intel test machines in a G5 case then they became big paper weights when the new OS launched. They did send us a Intel iMac for the trouble but we still had to drop plenty of change on the machines.

Got mine... ordered and ready to develop my next greatest fart sound invention.

Too bad Apple banned those apps years ago.

From the developer guidelines:

2.11 – Apps that duplicate Apps already in the App Store may be rejected, particularly if there are many of them, such as fart, burp, flashlight, and Kama Sutra Apps

Apple stealing One Plus style of marketing now too?

You think it's marketing to give developers free stuff?

Apple has done this long ago too. They gave free iMacs to all developers that ordered the Intel test machine years before One Plus (or Android) were around.

Fingers crossed I get my invite email. I've been playing with the SDK, it's pretty cool if a little overwhelming.

Oh? Anything cool you're able to tell us about it yet?

Is there an actual Siri API so that you can do TTS and/or STT? or is Apple still keeping Siri all to themselves?

I just have a standard developer account and i got an invite..

Obviously I was mistaken. I just glanced at it quickly knowing my free account wouldn't work. Must have misread/understood. Thanks! :)

...with a $1 fee being charged to verify billing and shipping addresses.

??? If you've signed in with your Apple ID don't they know that already?

I got mine! If you have Gmail, check your spam folder! Gmail flagged mine because it came from a weird apple subdomain address.

Not necessarily. What if you've moved and haven't purchased anything since the move and didn't update your account? Then they'd be auto-shipping it to an address you no longer live at.

It's probably more for accounting/tax purposes on their end, but just phrasing it that way so you think you're getting something for "free." No matter what the reason, no one selected should be complaining about getting the dev kit for $1.

I am excited for them to be released to the public. I will buy one right away. And a second for christmas probably. What I am hoping the most is that the homekit apps come out soon since they are supposed to leverage the TV as the Hub. I have stopped buying HUE lights and other Home Automation until it is clear what direction products are taking relative to HomeKit.

I read that Philips is readying a homekit compatible hub. Looking forward to that myself.

I thought about doing this just to have it early but realized that there is no point as the streaming apps and App Store won't be working until it's available for sale. I also didn't want to take a spot away from another developer who could use it to build something cool.

I really hope for a functioning Put.io app.

Google Photos and Google Music would be really nice, too.
