What would you prefer: spatial audio or hi-res audio?.
I can see the case for spatial audio in a movie with special effects or an action video game, but for music?. Why?. Is like 3D TV vs 4K tv, and we know how that ended. Spatial audio is just a gimmick. And on top of that only works on some apple headphones!, do they have more drivers?.absurd. And ridiculous that after all this time of Itunes, then Apple Music, IPod and saying that they love music Apple can’t support hi-res audio in their own hardware/ecosystem. Pathetic. Holding the progress for millions. Hi-res audio would be a true revolution, spatial audio is a sad marketing effort to simulate innovation.
“Hi-res audio would be a true revolution”

Is that so?

Spatial audio works very hard to defeat the idea of the headphones. With headphones you hear the sound always near you, with spatial audio the sound is supposed to come from your desk or a from a little to the right or from some place at home. How is that better than hearing directly and constantly in your ears?. I think is superior the experience of having the concert on your ears than being in a fix position and you having to move to “enjoy” that the audio is in “sobre place”. How is having to move my head superior audio experience?
I LOVE spatial audio. Best audio feature Apple’s added in YEARS.

Great. Another 90 second "Mumble Fest" from Ms. Ellish. She really needs to get over herself and take some voice lessons.
Nah, she seems to be doing great, and is making the music she wants to make. You’re just some rando posting on an Apple rumor site.

In fact, you really need to get over yourself, and take some lessons in manners.

I don't dig a lot of current music, but I assume that means that I have become an old fart. A gen xer old fart, not like a boomer. So, like only kind of an old fart :D.

That’s how all of her songs sound like and given their overwhelming popularity, people really like how that sounds. She doesn’t really need to “get over herself” and do anything.

Apple has teamed up with singer Billie Eilish on a new short film to promote Apple Music's recently launched Spatial Audio feature.

The 90-second video, created by Apple Music in close collaboration with Eilish, mashes up the songs "Getting Older" and "GOLDWING" from the artist's latest album "Happier Than Ever." Eilish is seen singing in front of a vanity mirror, and as the song transitions, her reflections start to multiply in additional mirrors surrounding her, which Apple said is a metaphor meant to represent what it's like to listen to Spatial Audio.

Apple said Spatial Audio takes the listening experience of the new album to new heights, bringing dimensionality to Eilish's vocal performance.

Based on Dolby Atmos, Spatial Audio provides a surround sound experience, making songs sound like they are coming from all around you. Thousands of Apple Music songs have been made available in Spatial Audio since the feature rolled out in June, including Lady Gaga's "Rain on Me" and Kanye West's "Black Skinhead," and Eilish's new "Happier Than Ever" album can also be listened to in the immersive audio format.

That was a truly horrifying video to watch and listen to. I'm not trying to be mean or anything. But wow. What is Apple thinking?

I believe if you gathered all the experts on MR forums, from all categories, and gave them the keys to Apple, It would be the smartest company on earth. No profitable in any way, but truly great.
Not profitable........but oh boy! the products we would make, and at half the price! Yeah....don't see that Apple lasting for very long

I swear my ears have something wrong with them.

I have a pair of supported headphones, spatial audio is turned on, I play the “introduction to spatial audio” thingy on Apple Music, I see the Dolby Atmos logo, but I simply cannot tell the difference.

It sounds… different yeah, but I definitely cannot feel like the music is “around” me any more than regular stereo tracks

I think some songs make it much more obvious. Where it's utilize in a good way it really does feel more like the head is inside a "sphear" of audio than just left and right channels.

Playing it on our 5.1 surround system it sounded flat and muddy. Playing it on the AirPod Max was bettter, but the surround audio was still muddy and didn’t use any height. It sounded gimmicky. Dolby Atmos I’m the other hand is so immersive, you sound like you are actually there, it’s brilliant and the accuracy of the format is transformative, amazing, and astounding. I‘m looking forwards to the 11.2 system we’re going to be upgrading toø.

No, it’s Apple’s version of Dolby Atmos. Apple wants people to believe it’s the same. It most definitely is NOT.
