I'm sorry but no lol. Meta is literally the anthesis of Apple at a fundamental level. This must be to combat the Anti-trust case the DOJ has against them cause there's no way. Meta and Apple literally have BEEF.

No, I will not grant any access to Meta at all!
I agree. I still am willing to believe that Apple really is a privacy focus company, but if they end up getting in bed with Google or Facebook, then clearly Apple is not privacy focused anymore. I don’t care that. They’re claiming that the data will be securely stored just on your phone. Facebook has been so clever about sneaking software and all sorts of things to still data.

I don’t understand why people seem to be willfully ignoring the architecture of Apple Intelligence.

These AI integrations are reached out to from Private Cloud Compute, they don’t touch your phone at all. Apple isn’t “getting in bed” with any of these companies.

They are treating large AI models like search in Safari, pick the one you want to use…but all queries still go through PCC, specifically because it’s designed to be private.

Apple is on your side in this matter, they’ve designed their integrations to protect your information *unless you explicitly opt in to share it by signing into the account for the given AI*.

Remember, this is the company that tried to somewhat quietly jam CSAM scanning onto "our" devices.

I'm not really sure Apple is much better than other tech companies

Maybe a little ... but it actually makes me wonder if they are just more comfortable doing things and not telling us about it.

Otherwise, all queries are stripped of identifiers (location, IP address, etc) by Apple before the query leaves the device.
This is impossible to do. It's not the metadata like location that is the issue, it's the actual data processed that is personal. If you ask chat gpt to reformat a letter it will have access to the content of said letter and that is the main concern.

I have great unease about anything AI.

Without a clear understanding on how AI can’t, not doesn’t, make me the product, I’ll be a cautious late adopter.

And meta? Big red flag. If Apple were to work with meta I’d def need an opt out switch in settings. Needed for all TBH.
I would need an opt-out switch from Apple.

Hum, nope.
First their AI technology sucks, and then their policy regarding their users' data sucks.

Apple can convince me they're securing our data with OpenAI, but they'll never convince me they can do it with Meta.

They can? They’ve guaranteed nothing but a prompt asking if you want to use ChatGPT. Apple has no clue what happens afterwards.

Please rewatch the Keynote, then the SOTU, to learn how Private Cloud Compute actually works.

Apple has no control whether or not you send private information to a 3rd party. They have already mitigated this with private cloud compute, according to the keynote. It's up to you if you believe them or not.

I personally don't use generative AI at all, and even keep Siri disabled on my phone, but do as you wish.

You must be a fan of The Terminator.
If kept under control AI could be a great assistant. Fill it with general knowledge but nothing personal about you.
Think of it as your Secretary; she could get greedy or mad at you, and use what she knows to drag you into the mud, or be a happy and efficient assistant. It’s a chance you took when you hired her.
Technically, in order for an assistant to be great they need to know a LOT about you; favorite restaurants, tv shows, vacation places, and sports teams, music preferences, bank info, daily routine, upcoming schedule, medical conditions, access to all your contacts, etc.

Because of this, if you rely too heavily on AI, it can really screw up your life. Not to mention, giving access to all that data to the most dangerous entity of all: the govt.
