Musk is not talking about the app, he is talking about how chatgp is integrated into Siri whereas other AI's are not meaning the user should be given a choice as to which AI the want to be integrated into Siri, not have Apple decide it for them. Just like how Explorer web browser used to be integrated into Windows and every other browser had to be an individual install that worked independently of windows until the courts forced Microsoft to change how it did things.
Musk, in fact, ís talking about the Grok app. And Apple 'deciding' for their customers is their prerogative in a free market. Don't like it? Switch brand. Or don't use it, as it is optional, and use the Grok app. Is Google being sued for only providing integrated Google AI on their Pixels? Or Samsung? Or Sony for offering only software in the PlayStation AppStore? Or Netflix for only offering Netflix content that they decided to offer?

Customers can vote with their wallet. It is (in my opinion) only monopolistic behavior when that is no longer an option.

Oh, and how about that Tesla phone...? 😅

The magic "clue" in the complaint is he wants all of our data . Plain and simple.

Indeed.

I already fixed that by blocking x.com, twitter.com, and grok.com network-wide via my Firewalla. Phone stays connected to my house via VPN, so I never even accidentally give him any traffic. Kids and wife haven't even noticed, and it's been over a year.

If it makes the Elon fanboys and girls on here feel any better, I don't use ChatGPT either.

What many companies fail to understand is that they can no longer chose a partner based on how much they pay because in doing so it could breach anticompetitive laws. Companies are to put out to tender their business and pick the company that is the best one for the job, not the one who can pay the most. This is why Apple got investigate for their partnership with Google over it's web browser because Apple did not pick the company that provided the best web browser, they picked the one that could pay Apple the most money. This is anticompetitive behavior and courts will put a stop to it.
Again: not accurate. Companies cannot make anticompetitive deals, but nobody is required to write call for tenders and then take the 'best' offer (whatever that would mean). That is just nonsense. It still ís a (somewhat) free market.
State run or public domain organizations are a different story, as they are spending public money. They do have to write call for tenders in a lot of countries around the world.

Now about that White House Tesla commercial... I wonder if there was a call for tender on that one 😉

Please be accurate when you are referring to my post, I said 'best one for the job', I did not say 'best offer' or sinuate 'best offer', so please do not try and change the narrative.

When there are multiple companies that offer the same product unfortunately a company such as Apple is required to look at all of them and chose the 'best one for the job' because that is how the law works because if they don't they get caught in the exact situation Apple is caught in now, a law suit.

They could just let the end-user pick for themselves with an API. They don't need to pick anyone.

Which I believe is what Musk is asking for, let the users decide which AI they want to use with Siri but Apple is saying no, they will decide.

Great lawsuit. Grok is superior in nearly every regard to chatGPT yet Apple forces me to use ChatGPT.

I find it interesting the downvotes Grok gets. I've used both extensively, and can say those downvoters have never used Grok, and/or compared it to ChatGPT (OpenAI). ChatGPT is heavily biased, and is outright wrong quite often. If I wanted that much misinformation and bias, I'd watch CNN.

Richest man in the world seems to be a loser. This lawsuit should have been dismissed for sure from what I'm reading. No one is using Grok over ChatGPT LMAO. Dude is delusional. You don't have to look much further than the reported traffic numbers of ChatGPT versus every other Chatbot, including Grok!

Oddly

it does. It shares the monopoly with Google’s android. That’s the sole reason why they are subject to anti trust laws
This is a weird and interesting issue. First, a shared monopoly is an oligopoly. However, parts of Apple, particularly its App Store, have been said to operate as a monopoly, not at oligopoly, in the US, UK and EU. The UK specifically designated "iPhone apps" as a market versus "all mobile apps." In the EU they have lost all appeals. In the US, there is an ongoing lawsuit by the DOJ that asserts an Apple monopoly in the smartphone market through App Store and other iOS restrictions. Apple tried to have it dismissed - and it does feel weird - but the judge decided there is sufficient evidence to allow the trial to happen. Regardless of whether right or wrong, the Tesla lawsuit is similar to that logic.

Yeah but the only time it calls ChatGPT is via Siri - and you can plug Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, whatever you want into Siri if you prefer - either via their apps or shortcuts.

Apple always said they'd add more native options to Apple Intelligence but I don't think you can sue a company for not partnering with everyone straight away.

Why am I "forced" to use Grok on X, I want to use Claude to analyse tweets...
Per the article, "Musk complained that his apps X and Grok had not been featured in the App Store's "Must Have" apps section" but the lawsuit is about, "Siri's ChatGPT integration, because Apple has not established deals with other companies for Siri integration."

Courts and regulatory agencies in the UK and EU have repaetedly and successfully defined "market" as something stricky within Apple. The US DOJ has filed a lawsuit along similar lines. Apple tried to get it dismissed for exactly your very reasonable logic and the judge ruled against them, finding there is a least sufficient evidence to allow the DOJ to try to prove it.

I'm not changing the narrative. You claim companies are required to have call for tenders for agreements, partnerships or contracts, correct? And that they then have to pick the 'best for the job'?
Ok, I'll bite: in which country, state or province is this a legal requirement? Enlighten me. Please provide references so I can stand corrected.

Also: 'same product' - what does that even mean?

A monopoly in the USA is defined as around 40-50% off market share. So perhaps it does.

In 2024 tesla sold 36% of EV cars. So very very close

Cherry picking a single year doesn’t change the fact Tesla had waaaaay over 50% sales for a decade.

Their combined installed base is also well over 50%.

Grok went from being an interesting fun agent to one of the worst and slowest on the market. This is undoubtedly just OpenAi trying to get their name into the lexicon more.
