Great Post

I remember when Apple almost went bankrupt :(

I'm glad that :apple: does not try to sell everything for everybody;)

How is it a great post?.. it's kinda stating the obvious.. how about if i posted 1+1 =2. Would that be a great post too?. None of the retailers that offer black friday sales owe anybody anything. The point of black friday is so consumers get great deals. Everyone recognizes that apple does not have to discount.. people are merely disappointed by the discount amount.. personally, it's very little to be honest.. not enough to make me want to lineup outside a store at 4:00 am in the morning. Where is the excitement apple?.

Nice move by Microsoft to keep Office on lots of macs in spite of iWork. I mean, how could you not buy it? Well, I'm in Canada so I'm not invited, but still, enough of you go out and buy office for Mac today, that keeps market share up and theoretically, you might convince iWork users to go back to office down the road.

(edit: this assumes the student edition, where your final price ends up around $68)

Happy shopping, I'll be thinking of you all while I'm at work today! :)

I'm sure that the Canadians here have noticed it, but Apple is giving a $50 instant rebate on Office today. It's not as good as $100, but it also isn't a mail-in.

If they really wanted to do us a favour, they'd lower the price of hardware to reflect the exchange rate. Then I'd THINK it was on sale and start shopping.

It's not 2002 anymore! The exchange rate ain't going back to where it was anytime soon. So let's just settle in and give me a MBP for $1999 already! Holy Cheeses!

Well, I WAS going to buy a new macbook...

despite the driver issues with the video "card" and the fact it comes with a combo drive, I was going to plunk down the cash and buy a base macbook, as a 101 dollar discount plus my corporate discount would have pushed the price below a grand. What do I see this morning? Fifty bucks?

Naaah. I'll wait to see what happens in January, apple.

Please read CAREFULLY MacRumors!

The article here implies you get instant discounts PLUS a mail-in discount at MacMall, but it sure looks to me like their discounted price IS the price after the mail-in rebate (detailed description and ads make this VERY clear with the "*" notice). So you're *NOT* getting $300 off a new MBP or $600 off a closeout old model. You're getting $150 off maximum on the former and $300 on the latter. Here, I was getting halfway excited when I read the headline. It's just not true from what I can see.

I'm a bit disappointed to see the Wireless Keyboard is not on sale, especially considering they included it in their promo graphics.

17" Apple MacBook Pro Retail Price: $2799
MacMall Price Today: $2649
After $150 Mail in Rebate: $2499

Retail Cost = $2799
Final cost = $2499
Difference = $300

Kind of a crappy sell really, but something is better then nothing. I had only planned to buy an AppleTV and the new gigabit airport extreme. 21.00 off is better then nothing, but I think the referb is cheaper. Really sad that the AppleTV was not on sale. The rumors said there would be "deep discounts" on the AppleTV. I guess that's why they are rumors.

I have to say I am really disappointed that there is no .mac deal going on this year....

this is called: apple's lame friday. $11 off here. $21 off there. etc etc.... come on. why even bother.

seems to me that people complaining about the sale are still buying, so asking why bother is obvious - it's 'buy stuff day USA'... thanksgiving is pretty hardcore for you americans, it's like christmas then boxing day sales, but you do that too... big spenda'!

"Price today" is "*" after mail-in rebate (read small print). You can't add the rebate on top of the SAME REBATE. '

In other words, their 'sale price' today is WITH the mail-in rebate included. You don't get to take the rebate twice!

Here's the correct breakdown:

MacMall Price Today: $2649
* That INCLUDES the $150 Mail in Rebate: (still $2649)

Retail Cost = $2799
Final cost = $2649
Difference = $150

I guess "*" advertising really DOES fool most people, just like the $2.99 9/10 trick at at the gas pumps.

Not buying from the apple store. Even with the sale, it's still quite a bit cheaper to just go to amazon or someone else.

Apple gets pretty hosed by having to charge sales tax for online orders, they can't compete with amazon on price for ipods.

America doesn't celebrate Boxing Day... Canada does.

As for me, I was at least expecting .Mac. Total disappointment.

MacMall is down to on top of the crappy discounts

Why does Apple have to charge sales tax on internet purchases, while Amazon does not?

I don't understand the internet tax schemes at all anymore. And it seems like state governments want you to pay them taxes that Amazon didn't collect.

We need a permanent exemption on internet taxes imo :)

Yep. V-e-r-y frustrating. M$ products are not something to be used in mission critical or otherwise high demand applications, especially their ill-designed OSs. I'm not talking spyware here either, namely performance or lack thereof.:D

Lack thereof for sure
