I haven't taken advantage of Apple Store's black friday sales since 2003 when they had 10-20% off various products. It was also their best black friday ever.

Gut feeling?

Ok, I need some gut feelings here. THat Macbook deal is VERY tempting since I was considering buying one in January anyways. However, i worry they will release an updated version at MacWorld. Anyone think they will??

I've been trying for the past hour or so to get onto the MacMall site with no luck. Anyone else having similar troubles?

We are the richest country in the world, but....

Just had this discussion with my wife, some guy at work, his comment was, ifyou go to the Apple store to buy a laptop at those prices, Apple better damn well throw a i-pod in.
IMHO, whatever they offer off is nice frosting, but you want a Lexus, you pay the price:rolleyes:

We expect huge discounts on everything! Wake up people, why do you think we have illegals trying to get here? They full fill jobs none of us would do! And guess what? Notice the price of fresh vegetables and fruit has gone up? That is because farmers now don't have enough workers to harvest their product!

Be happy your getting ANY discounts, and if you don't like Apples sale prices go elsewhere.

Since they were just released, I would highly guess not. I wouldn't suspect until Spring ( May-ish ).

Ha!

I can't believe people expect hand-outs from a public company.

They aren't. They're expecting apple to be competitive with their discounts or they'll not buy and/or shop somewhere else.

I was expecting to buy some things today, but no way is there any incentive to buy anything. I am perfectly alright without living with these things. So, apple just lost a possible sale by not cutting the price. I am sure many others are doing the same.

These deals stack with my EPP store discount.
20" 2.4GHz iMac for $1308 here I come!:)
Yup! Very tempted by the iMac Extreme at $2060, which is $239 off the standard price of $2299. Now if only I lived in a no-sales-tax state.

That's always a stickler with Apple's deals. Apparently, it is also now with MacMall :( Oh well.

Seeing as I have to go to work in a couple of hours (and still need to get ready yet and won't be back home until after midnight), I guess MacMall lost a sale as their site refuses to work properly here. Maybe they should invest in more bandwidth and/or extend their sale another day because this is nothing short of ridiculous for an internet experience.

I like how their deal includes a free printer, carrying case and parallels 3.0, but the out of state sales tax + $30 cheaper price at Amazon + Amazon site actually WORKS means my hands are tied.

I bet. You'll probably wait til the sale ends and buy them in the Christmas run-up. Lock in the higher price ;) If the $100 discount you were hoping for makes the difference between buying and not buying a Mac, I'm wondering why you don't buy 3 Dells for the same price anyway?

Wow, a fairly mediocre Black Friday. I was hoping for a discount on the iPhone and Leopard OS. Oh well, guess I'll have to pay full price. ;)

Canadian exchange Rate

Good old Apple, even with the Canadian dollar the way it is we still pay more then our American counterparts. These sale prices are a complete joke! Since it says "Some products or promotions are not available outside the U.S." I am not sure I could order from the US site. The SALE prices on the Canadian site are worse then the regular prices on the US. And that is before the favorable exchange!!! So why would I bother? I can order from the US site any day of the week and not be pressured into a sale over the perception of a deal. Canadian retailers are still selling product too high. I guess they might realize that when everyone does their christmas shopping down south.

Troubles here too. Even thought I'd give Sears a try and use their plastic to (maybe) get a 10% discount off of a blue Nano. Their site is overwhelmed too.

... M$ products are not something to be used in mission critical or otherwise high demand applications, especially their ill-designed OSs. ..

the "server" was down for more than half an hour this morning at the apple store in cincinnati, making it impossible to ring up sales. wonder what OS they're using?

...Mail-in rebate offer valid in the 50 United States...

is anyone else having trouble printing the online coupons/rebate forms? I can print from Pages, from SnapZProX, and other apps, but trying to print the forms from Safari or just opening a PDF in Preview results in printing a blank page. Weird...

...The only thing I think my wife is going to hop on is the iPhone BT earpiece

it's a matter of personal preference, but the universally higher-rated, technically superior Jawbone BT earpiece is on sale for only $69 at Amazon--that's about half price!

...Not what I would call stellar deals, though I think most of us know that...

you're right. most people know now not to expect much in terms of sales at apple stores--or of apple gear generally. There were only about a dozen people in line when the apple store opened in my market this morning. I was there about 90 minutes and it didn't seem any busier than on a normal shopping day. as others have noted, as a stockholder i prefer this to a biz that has to discount constantly, or deeply, to get sales. that's clearly not an apple problem these days. i say more power to them.

...Why does Apple have to charge sales tax on internet purchases, while Amazon does not?...

i think biz's have to charge sales tax in states where they operate physically: apple has stores in many states so has to charge sales tax in those states; amazon does not.

Not unbelievable amounts but fairly good discounts on Leopard, iLife, iWork, .Mac, ... at http://www.expercom.com/ No, I don't get anything from you purchasing there but just trying to help everyone find the best deals they can.

They have some pretty impressive MB / MBP deals going on as well.

Yeah, these deals are weak. Although, I've noticed nearly all the deals across all retailers are pretty weak this year...nothing really stands out as an incredible deal like there have been in years past.

Down ( not responding ) is one thing but it's -- to me -- 2x more frustrating with the server just choking and throwing up errors. Despite the hardware not being able to keep up, I still wouldn't trust an M$ OS -- from what I've seen -- for a server platform. Granted, I can't say from [lack of] experience if Mac OS X Server is better than Windows Server but I still wouldn't trust it.

Amazon has (and has had) Leopard for $109 and a Leopard VMWare bundle for $146. The latter is a great deal if you wanted Fusion anyway. I'm tempted.

I've been waiting for this day for a long time. Today my dad went to the Apple Store in Easton to buy me my new MacBook for Christmas, I had to pay for part of it though but I can't wait to use it!

At first, I thought the Microsoft Office deal looked pretty amazing - I was strongly tempted to buy the academic version (I work at a university), even though I'm trying to get away from Office. But then I realized there's a "gotcha!" in the licensing.

The academic version of Office comes with three licenses, so you can install it on three family computers. The Special Media Edition, however, only comes with ONE license. So next year I'd either have to buy another license, or else pick which person doesn't get the new version of Office...

Toast 8

Where's the cheapest to get Toast 8 in Canada? US store is OK so long as I don't get hit with the ripoff brokerage.

Why does Apple have to charge sales tax on internet purchases, while Amazon does not?

I don't understand the internet tax schemes at all anymore. And it seems like state governments want you to pay them taxes that Amazon didn't collect.

We need a permanent exemption on internet taxes imo :)

Amazon does charge sales tax to some. Yah, I am one of those unfortunately few that have to pay sales tax at amazon. Online businesses normally only charge sales tax in states where they have an office, distribution, or some other related business venture. Basically, wherever they have business licenses to operate, they have to charge state sales tax.

So as much complaining there is about this sale, this is a blessing for us that have to pay sales tax at amazon, apple, macmall, etc.
