Has anyone had any luck with MacMall? I've been trying all day to get a MacBook for $974  :D to replace my 5.5-year-old iBook G3.

macmall, sales tax

Hi

If it gives you any hope, after 2 hours and 45 minutes I finally got my iPod touch 16GB w/ free case ( after MIRs ) ordered. I wish I were exaggerating on the time frame.

P.S. Since when did MacMall start applying sales tax to all?

I tried macmall.com for about that long, but it still wasn't working so I ordered by telephone. How archaic. (Plus, I'll probably get the ugly free-after-rebate shoulder case instead of the semi-nice one.)

I don't know in which states MacMall has a presence but evidently not mine as they didn't charge me sales tax on my macbook (and I do pay sales tax when I buy groceries and such).

Thanks for the link MR!

That's amazing... I just got Office 2004 Student Edition (yes, I am a student!) for $125 - $100 rebate = $25! And I get the 2008 upgrade for about $10! Awesome!! :D

Feel like frickin Charlie Brown at Halloween..... "I got a rock....."
Tell me about. Got all excited to see the DEALS, only to see an average sale. Save $11!!! Well whoop-dee-freakin-do, Apple. I can get these kinds of sales by skipping lunch for the day. :p Look! iPhone on sale... $2 off list price!!! Get 'em while they're hot! PowerMacs on sale $4 off! Awwww, yeah baby!

Try calling them (800-622-6255). I was having trouble with their website and gave them a call. Got connected in about 15 minutes through the queue and was able to order a new iMac for $200 off including a free printer (after rebate) and a free copy of Parallels (after rebate) and free shipping (after rebate). This is the best deal I have seen (and even better if you live outside of California - no sales tax).

I wonder what presence they have in MN. Too bad it isn't a warehouse so that I could get my iPod that much sooner. :D

I would have ordered by phone but thought it would be a headache to try and give all of my information ( street address, ... ) that needed to be updated.

This is the best deal I have seen (and even better if you live outside of California - no sales tax).
That was my thought and I don't think I got taxed last time that I ordered a few years back. However, this time I got stuck with the normal 7% MN sales tax ( calculating to $23.79 ). It was still the best deal i could find on an iPod touch but not quite as good as I was expecting.

Did Amazon sell out all their current stock? They're now listing a 3-5 week shipping time or you can buy it from an Amazon partner for a little more.

To be honest, I was waiting for Apple to post refurbished iPod touchs so that I could see the price. However, it looks that they haven't updated the refurbished section for a couple of months now. :( I don't know, what gives? Since I really didn't feel like waiting to see when they finally posted it and MacMall had a good price on one, I just went with it.

Geez...some people are serious whiners! "Apple, your completely voluntary sale isn't up to my personal shopping standards!"

There is some good stuff out there that we normally pay full price for (the other 364 days.) Glad to see Apple helping out a little bit when possible.

Not that I'm aware of, but yea... they have the 3-5 week estimated ship date. Plus tax since I live in Washington, so it was $135 total. I actually ordered it this morning from Amazon and they quoted me an arrival date of December 5-11.

I went over to check Newegg.com (great customer service, great prices) and they had it for 129.99, no shipping or tax (depending on your state of residence... NJ, CA, and TN I think have to pay up).

We ended up making all of our purchases for Leopard, iLife and .Mac from Amazon.

Even though iLife was listed $1 cheaper at Apple than Amazon, we don't have to pay taxes to Amazon purchases like we do to Apple here in NY, so in the long run the $1 more at Amazon is actually cheaper.

PLUS .Mac is the same cost at Amazon that Apple charged last year.

Still can't believe that Apple let everyone down like this, this year.

Ended up still using Amazon to buy my iPod Classic. First I saw it on the Apple site. $31 not bad considering it's never on sale, then I saw MacMall, comes with "free" case and FM transmitter. But I came to the conclusion Amazon $29~ off with Prime shipping and no tax beat both of them. I didn't want to deal with MacMall's rebates.

Amazon Prime is has a free trial offer if anyone is shopping online this season. Just remember to cancel.

amazon is contradictory

amazon.com is selling microsoft office 2004 with the rebate stated in the price. This rebate must be postmarked BY DECEMBER 23rd. The rebate requires you to send in the front cover of the product manual. Amazon says it wont arrive until AFTER DECEMBER 24th. I spoke to a rep on the phone from amazon and they agreed there is no way to get the rebate.

Ugh, the frustration. Was going to sidle down to the apple store and use a gift card, but even with the gift card, the tax and difference in price is too great to make it a deal locally.

Amazon has the middle MacBook (reg $1299) for $1249 plus a $75 rebate comes to $1176. But it ships in, now, 3-5 weeks. Expected delivery AFTER Christmas. Yikes!

So, I'll try MacMall. Their price, after rebates, $1162. But their site is just choked. Keep trying to add to cart, various Microsoft OLE errors. I might try again in the middle of the night when things calm down, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence about their ability to successfully fill my order.

So do I go back to square one? Buying from apple store, the price with tax is $1282. That's more than $100 more, but at least I get my machine and no rebates to fool with. Of course, amazon also has macbook pro for $1750 after rebates...

Thank you 14 day price match policy!

I bought my MacBook 12 days ago and they discounted it $101 today.

I walked into the store and was greeted as I walked in and they immediately was sent to the register and was refunded the difference (plus sales tax) immediately becasue of their 14 day price match guarantee. No questions asked.

It didn't really work out as I planned though as I was "in the store" and decided to purchased a .Mac subcscription (-$30 to if you buy a new PC) but they honored the reduced price even though it was almost 2 weeks ago. so all in all after 2 trips to the store I look at it as saving $30 and getting a free year of .Mac.

I have nothing but very nice things to say about my local Apple Retail Store.

Thank you.

You must've ordered ahead of me. Before choosing Amazon, I had chosen J&R - but at checkout I was told "this is no longer available". So then I loaded it from Amazon, and was told "will arrive after December 25th".

I ordered from Amazon around 11 am EST and my ship date is November 28th.

As the rebate is not store specific, you can buy from Newegg as well for $124 (no tax, free shipping).
I already own Office 2004 for Mac for almost three years now but I went ahead and bought this for getting a good deal on Office 2008 (even though I have to deal with a rebate; I hope MS rebate won't go as bumpy as some of their products). :p
I hope I could do without MS but in collaborative research, you cant be a lone ranger.

Went to my local Apple Store today just to see what was around. So I walk in and everyone practically greeted me and offered their assistance. I went to this express counter and asked them if .Mac was on sale, they unfortunately not. I gave them an awe and told them that I was looking forward to it like last year so I can assure my subscription for the next year. The gentlemen kindly went to his manager, said a few words, and both of them GLADLY offered me .Mac for $68.

I guess they're willing to do whatever it takes to keep .Mac subscribers. Great day it was today

A question from someone suffering from the Amazon.com late ship date:

I bought office 2004 from amazon.com today and received a ship date well after december 23. However, I already have a copy of office 2004. What if I sent in the front cover of THAT instruction manual and the receipt from the new copy? Or would microsoft check with amazon and see that I still hadn't received my new copy?

Thanks for the help!

Mine says it'll be here by the 11th of December. :)
