All corporations should have political agendas and social justice goals. Without them, they're robotic cash machines and nothing more. The best companies have actual humans with beliefs, and they have every right to voice them. If you don't agree with them, there are less politically vocal companies you could support, but they're still participating in social justice and politics. Perhaps less vocally, but they all do it, and it helps to make this country a better place and push individuals fighting the social justice fight by lending a bigger support in the corner

While I agree they should have a social agenda because they operate in the social sphere, not sure a political agenda is a good thing. In reality, corporations and lobbying distort the political will of the people as those in power in those corps can use corporate funds to fund interests held to them.

Corporations have a lot of sway over politicians and some argue more than the people themselves. So we aren't doing what's in the best interest of the people, but the best interest in the corporation who donates the most money to a politician's political career, even if it hurts the people he is suppose to represent.

In regard to this ad, it's a direct shot at the incoming administration. We all can see that. I just see it's dangerous when Companies use their money in the political sphere, even if I agree with the message. It's the methodology that I think should be stopped. But I guess this is the norm is our so called democracy

I wish Apple had no political agenda and social justice goals to pursue.

Omg some of you new Apple users don't get Apple and The "Think Different" concept. Let me guess you refer to Steve Jobs as "Steve" too. When George Harrison and Muhammad Ali passed away I bet you also had a negative comment to why Apple posted a page in their honor.
Maybe Toutou, you would be happy to see the President elect page on the Apple site soon?

Regardless of your political views, this seems like a good move on Apple's part for three reasons:

1. If you support this kind of altruism, the benefits are obvious. You're already pleased Apple posted this.

2. If you don't support it and think it has no place in business, remember, speaking out against discrimination is (for lack of a better word) trendy. We've already seen a few posts here from people who are more likely to buy Apple products because of their politics.

3. Apple has many employees. Whoever threw together this honor page is not the same person who designs, programs, or markets Apple's products. So even if this wasn't posted, Apple would still more or less be in the same place.

In an ideal world, social policy and political agenda would be separate, but that's not how it works in this country for better or for worse, and in particular if a powerful company can wield its power to effect social progress, I'm okay with that. They're incentivized to, after all. Without liberal immigration policies, intelligent, diligent foreign-born employees with great ideas wouldn't have the opportunity to work for said company. Without a tolerant social environment, hard-working people of color, or gay employees, or women would be less inclined to take a job in a certain state and risk social sphere discrimination (see North Carolina, for instance). The benefits to a corporation for pushing social agendas backed with their influence (financial and otherwise) is unsurprising; comes with its tradeoffs, yes, but also with many advantages. And it hopefully makes the world a bit more open-minded in the process.

Apple got this right. The only problem is that this is likely to be the last MLK Day because the racist fascists that are taking over the US government are likely to eliminate it as a national holiday.

We SHALL overcome some day, today is just not that day.

That's a complete, utter lie. Show me any evidence that shows the new administration's intention to eliminate the holiday. I'd love to see it. Otherwise, pipe down.

And Apple has not gotten this right. Apple and left wing companies like it are laying the groundwork for an incredibly ugly and depressing future where everyone's race is front and center, where you're an Asian American or an African American or a European American instead of just an American. Where your race factors heavily into what job you get, what school your kids get into, etc.

One example I noticed at Apple: a few years ago, almost overnight, I noticed that first tier Apple Support calls were being answered by black people, almost exclusively. Did Apple happen to suddenly hire a large number of black people just randomly? Of course not. Instead, Apple made a conscious decision to hire blacks to the exclusion of whites, and probably asians and every other group, largely because of their race, not their individuality. When the racial shakedown artist, Jesse Jackson, came to town and pointed out that there weren't many blacks and hispanics working in Silicon Valley, the liberal pushovers like Tim Cook fell all over themselves to apologize and pledge to "try harder", and never pushed back to point out how few blacks or hispanics graduated with technical degrees, or even bothered applying for non-technical jobs. But somehow, it became a failing of the Valley to not bend over backwards to recruit people based on their race.

For all of Tim Cook's love of MLK, I doubt he really understands the man. When King said "Free at last", he wasn't looking forward to a world that was hyper-aware of race, where everyone was evaluated by race first and individuality second. King was talking about a world where the individual was the only thing that mattered, REGARDLESS of race.

Tim Cook and Apple are moving in the opposite direction.

Hahaha! Apple supports Trump? Oh my days. Some people just make stuff up and type it with entirely zero knowledge of the subject they are engaging themselves in. I don't even know where to begin with explaining why that statement was just about the most stupid ****ing thing I've ever read on the internet and, being a regular of Mac Rumours, that is a bold statement indeed.

Totally bought into his views of integration ... but wore out with his embrace of socialism ... absolutely NO future in cradle-to-grave societies of which he was a great promoter.

I wish people would realize that businesses should take an interest in the social justice of the areas in which they choose to do business as much as they can. The reason Apple is as great a company as they are is because they care about improving the lives of the people they do business with and around.

So wonderful to see the Apple MLK tribute website on my 3+ year old Mac Mini, my 4 year old iPad and my MacBook air from 2010! Wish they had some new product to buy. I'd even go for a MacBook Pro MLK edition with extra ports and an SD slot.

Really need to fire that Cook. It's almost too late.
You can fire Apple yourself. You can just use other products. People only care about social justice when it applies to them directly. However, when it applies to those different from them they want to ignore it. I guess thats just how some people, if you can call them that, roll. Social justice benefits everyone. You never know when you'll be on the side who needs the social justice and you'll want others who are different than you to stick up for you.

If it's one thing that doesn't seem to be in short supply it's classic FUD: Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. Seems that's the norm on both sides of pretty much every major public issue.

Tim's tweeted picture is most clearly facing John Lewis, guess its a response to the Tweeter in Chief.

I always cringe when Apple positions itself as the progressive technology company. Not sure if they really believe this between the labor deals, litigious bullying, sometimes fascist developer restrictions and cut throat dominance or if they are just slithering down the last few inches of coat tail flapping in the wake of a superbowl ad from 1984.

Give yourself a hearty pat on the back for inventing an adversary you can virtue signal against.

Agreed, political agendas should be kept separate from big corporations. Apple is here to sell products, don't get it twisted. A little picture on a website isn't going to change anything, and everyone knows that. Keep making computers and iPhones. That's what people care about Apple for.

Now that companies are treated legally as people and apparently can have political and even religious views, I guess we'll see more of this....

You did it. Why not someone else too?

What makes what you said in the sentences above about fascism any different from what the other poster said. Ohhh right... Apple defending it's IP and its methods of protecting end users and developers from themselves is now fascist. People always complain about the developer restrictions. Then they get a reality check when the Android platform constantly has malware and other security scares.

Wow...I wish Tim Cook treated Mac Pro equally.

It's better that you check elsewhere.

I don't remember the comments on the site being this bad nearly seven years ago when I joined. You're probably right and I should just stick to the home page and avoid the comments altogether (or find somewhere else)

It's not just you.

Comments everywhere have turned into a special kind of ugly since GamerGate got things rolling.

People forget Apple did the same things they are doing now under Steve Jobs. They are just going after Tim because Tim is a minority.
