Great link! Interesting whether true or not. I like the part about custom devices being made for Verizon, which actually fit so many other rumors:

One device is a smaller, less expensive calling device described by a person who has seen it as an "iPhone lite."

That fits Verizon's desire to sell many more units to more people.

The other is a media pad that would let users listen to music, view photos, and watch high-definition videos, the person says. It would place calls over a Wi-Fi connection. One of these devices may be introduced as early as this summer, one person says.

Cool. A portable Verizon Hub.

I find it very convenient that all these Verizon rumors are popping out right around the time that AT&T is attempting to extend the exclusivity agreement past 2010. Sounds like Apples about to go to the bank.

What about the Pre

With Sprint set to get the Palm Pre, and reviews are touting it as a potential iPhone killer (or at least a serious contender), Verizon will need something really hot to avoid erosion of its customers.

When the iPhone was first introduced there were published quotes about perhaps a dozen iPhone variations coming out before Xmas. Of course, no did. Are we about to see them now?

come on people...

Seriously people, I don't understand the use of talking about these subjects when we can speculate and have no idea what Apple is going to do. I have had both carriers and I worked for both also and both carriers have their ups and downs.

Smashing AT&T for not getting tethering with the iPhone is rediculous because AT&T doesnt manage the capabilities of the iPhone, Apple does. Bashing Verizon because they don't have GSM coverage in the united states and making a phone for them would be ridiculous is also not fair. I hate reading these posts sometimes because it seems like most of the experiences with coverage are based upon the user's location. Some places Verizon gets good coverage and some places AT&T gets good coverage, and all these comments are based upon biased experiences between the user and the carriers. For every customer that swears by Verizon there is someone who swears by AT&T. So I take all these comments with a grain of salt because it's all biased.

With the economy the way it is I don't see many more companies moving that fast to do anything very quickly. We can all speculate on whats gonna happen but who REALLY knows what is gonna come in the near future?? Not one of us.

Unless you're an Apple Exec.

Well, the lack of iPhone tethering, I believe, is both an Apple thing and an AT&T thing. Given how just normal data usage on iPhones managed to clog AT&T's network, I, as a customer, wouldn't want AT&T to enable tethering for iPhone users. Just imagine how clogged the network would be if people started tethering, even with the reasonable limits in place.

I don't think anyone really bashed Verizon over their using CDMA. At any rate, the vast majority of global carriers are shifting to LTE, so in 5-10 years, Verizon and AT&T will have solid LTE networks.

As I mentioned I work for AT&T and all our phones have that tethering capability, with the exception of the iPhone, so no it's not an AT&T option.

My mother works for AT&T too. It's great to know someone else that works there! However, my mother isn't privy to the knowledge of the inner workings of the executive circle. And unless you're directly connected to that circle, neither are you.

The iPhone has tethering capability; NetShare proved that. But I'm rather sure that the executive team, after seeing the impact the old iPhone had on their EDGE network that they made the decision to not allow the iPhone 3G to tether until the UTMS network could be improved. Apple announced that 3.0 would support tethering. AT&T announced network improvements in progress after that announcement. Maybe there's a connection.

Bring it to Verizon

I will be the first one to buy a IPhone on Verizon. Its about time because Verizon is the number one network with the best service.
