What if you are an international spy but your head has been reconstructed to make you look like a Russian dignitary?
What if you are a serial killer who wears the faces of your victims and you can't take a call from your mother?
What if you have an accident and have to replace your face every morning with Lego?
What if you're Rorschach?
So many problems...
Rorschach wouldn't have a problem because he never uses a phone. He's an "in person" or not at all sort. The rest are SOL. :D

Is it going to blow me too? Are we racing to see who can open their messages app faster?
No we are just spending the day watching a presentation of a phone we are not going to buy for the purposes of flame...sounds very mature! You do have a life and a lesson to teach us sir!

For better or worse the iphone x launch will coincide with rumored Pixel 2 launch.

As much as I love iOS, the hardware/software optimizations and integration across apple devices I will wait to see what Google pushes out for the Pixel 2 and make a decision then on which phone to get. Hopefully we will have more insight into the iphone x by then as well.

That might not be a good thing on Apple's part, well that's unless Google F's up again and releases the pixels in a very limited quantity like last time. They sold what, a million I believe? If LG's v30 does wind up being the Pixel XL rebranded then I might defect and go back to Android, that's a hell of a phone and checks off pretty much everything the iPhone X does but with the advantage of Android. Alas, Google is guaranteed to screw it up anyway.

FaceID had better be flawless. Didn't work too well during the demonstration. Te second time, he tried it, I wasn't that impressed with the speed. The idea I have to raise and authenticate is not as convenient as just touching as I raise to unlock. But I'm sure I'll get used to it. I wish he would have demonstrated how it would work on a flat table. THat's the other situation where I wouldn't want to have to raise the phone in order to access it.

They didn't dispel my one concern that ApplePay won't work without looking at the phone during the transaction. In many cases, the POST is away from my face.

EDIT: never mind -- the second demonstration with Apple Pay showed that it can be authenticated before extended to the POST. It's not as convenient as Apple Pay is with Touch ID now, but it might actually be more reliable. I do wonder how quickly the Face Authentication will time out though. That could get tricky.

You'll need to wait for FaceID gen 2 for response to be fast

As usual

I'm currently using an iPod touch 4g and it barely opens the web browser. This a4 can't even handle messaging apps. So I myself will welcome more processing power to do every day tasks. I can't wait to get my hands on a modern, powerful iPhone.

So we should pay for that? Lol

Half assed designs and specs?
You’re not forced to buy it? I mean if people really don’t like it, they don’t have to buy it. They have the iPhone 8 which is what you’d expect this year. Then they have the iPhone X which is an extra thing. We wouldn’t see this iPhone at all in 1-2 years or more, with the way everyone wants it. They wanted to get it in for the 10th anniversary too.

How so?

This is will sell very well, probably break records. The issue for me is that isn't very special....should just be the iphone 8.
I remember the cube G4...what a break through...for decades. Today we have the TrashPro. Still going strong. Hasn't been updated in three years.

I think the iPhone 8 will sell better than the iPhoneX.

Please Apple and Samsung stop messing with the screens, no curves, edges, cutouts, round corners. Thank you.

Till I get my hands on a iPhone X I'm quite sure several new iOS updates will have made Face ID working flawlessly.

Pondering why they keep the 6s 6s+ around? It feels like apple may have caused frustration with the amount of features and pricing in the line they announced today.

after all that was anounced I'm left wanting an iphone 8 with portrait mode (which of course dosen't exsist.)

Face id is one feature of a very expensive piece of hardware technology. "the notch" it seems is an incredible bit of overkill for replacing touchid, introducing living emoji and snapchat facepaint. I wonder what else is planned for a mechinism so purposely executed. The cosmetics of the notch needs to be fixed via a ui change.

It wasn't a buggy phone for crying out loud. Clearly the first phone he grabbed had been rebooted at some point, and just like with Touch ID you have to enter your passcode to get in the first time. He probably blanked on the passcode and that's why he grabbed the spare.

Possible, but don't pretend to know things you couldn't possibly know.

Have u own any of those CURVED edge ss phone. I really hate it. Very annoying. I always accidentally touch the curve edge of the screen. Also make the edge of photos look ugly and distorted. Very stupid design by Samsung.

S8 does not display photos on edge, and touching the edge does nothing unless you turn on the edge icons which are off by default.

I'm not sure he'd have gone for the "You now invoke Siri with the button you use to turn the phone off" either?

I'd expect more of a "Force Touch where the Home Button should be to invoke Siri" method?

Apple used to do so well with UI* and pushing UI *consistency* across OS, Apps, generations of devices, etc.. Now you have multiple ways to unlock the phone and invoke Siri between iPhones launched on the same day?

Maybe I'm officially old, but this is just seems annoying to me?

* Yes, the Apple UI consistency ship sailed away long long ago, but that doesn't mean that stuff like this doesn't still make your brain itch if you remember the good ole days where we made fun of Microsoft for this sort of crap...

This also shows how little 3D touch matters. It is basically a long press on models without 3D touch, and doesn't add a whole lot to the experience. It is the same way on the mac. There is no need for the force touch.

I would consider not being able to unlock it, and switching to a second phone to get access being a fail.... regardless of why it happened.
It was a presentation fail, but not a software or hardware fail. TouchID fails like that for me every time I restart my phone. 100% failure when I restart my phone. Is that how you see it?
