Apple Announces 5.8-inch 'iPhone X' With Super Retina OLED Edge-to-Edge Display

I remember when everyone thought the iPhone 4 looked ugly when it was leaked before the Keynote. I also remember when people thought the iPhone 6 and the protruding camera was disgusting when it was leaked before the Keynote. Now most of you think the glass back is amazing and most of you have at least an iPhone 6. What's all the crying about? If it's the price, then that's understandable. If it's the notch at the top of the screen, get over it :)

Seriously though, if it's the ears that bother you, I can see apps making sure that the top parts of their app is blacked out so it looks more like the mock ups you all like. Other than that, I'm sure you'll get used to it
 
Just a thought the processors are the same in all the new iPhone models the A11 Bionic, the leaked GM states the 8+ and the X will both have 3GB of RAM surely that means then with the 8+ having a lower resolution screen in theory it should actually outperform the X? That is unless Apple cripple the A11 in the 8 series for some reason.

Samsung just happens to sell them their screens, why on earth would they sue their 70million screen client?
 
Maybe they should introduce a "keep locked" face-id:
(= sleeping faces, scared faces when under pressure).
 
iPhone X makes no sense at all:

1 - oled screen is not edge to edge at all, Samsung's approach of an edge to edge display looks better
2 - that top part of the screen looks weird with the camera/speaker bar in the middle, it should stay black with time/signal levels all the time as those "corners" are useless for app use
3 - facial recognition sucks, you have to look to the screen to activate it, how do you get your phone working without taking it from the table? (and it is way slower than touch ID to unlock the phone as you have to pick the phone, look at it and swipe up... touch ID gets you to home screen after unlocking, and you can unlock without looking at the phone at the moment you pick it up)
4 - facial recognition PLUS two pushes to a button to activate apple pay? better stay with touch ID
5 - swipe down from top of the screen to get to control center? that's just like android's way of doing things
6 - with such a "big" screen using the extreme low part of it is not natural and no mention to being comfortable
7 - should be noticed: gaming buttons do not comply with the equipments bar at the top of the device (look at the game shown where one of the screen buttons is cut by the camera/speaker bar)
8 - apple seems to be losing it's ability to innovate in design (iPhones look the same since 2014 with just materials change)
9 - think i might keep my 5s until apple corrects those phones next year
X - why make such a fuss over a phone with NO advancements at all? better get an iPhone 8 and apple watch for almost the same price.

ps.: gesture control without touch, make a wireless dock for use with a screen and accessories, better camera? (more resolution, bigger sensor,...?)...

apple watch on the other way...

seems like videos can play smaller so you don't have the notch in the video, but the bottom of the display will also be black to compensate for the ratio change. Apple should change it so that videos can fit right to bottom and to the bottom of notch.

It would be nice if you let me decide what to do or not to do as long as I respect others and their opinions. I personally find it very cheap to call someone an Apple troll if their opinion doesn't fit someone elses. If I'm disappointed in the direction Apple is going I want to be able to express this without someone with only a few messages posted telling me I'm an Apple troll. I think an excuse is justified for this. If you don't agree, ignore me or don't read my posts.

Face id is one feature of a very expensive piece of hardware technology. "the notch" it seems is an incredible bit of overkill for replacing touchid, introducing living emoji and snapchat facepaint. I wonder what else is planned for a mechinism so purposely executed. The cosmetics of the notch needs to be fixed via a ui change.

Wouldn't they need some kind of top bezel anyhow to house the hardware? I love that they actually ended up saving space by using the sides, but absolutely hate that they are not blacking out the ears.
 
Apple Event days are awesome on MR...the army of paid Samsung trolls mobilizes ASAP. Someone even criticized the clothing styles in the audience. Love it.

"Unless you have an identical twin" you see, TouchID doesn't care about that since even identical twins have different finger prints. So there's that. Now we're waiting for a price.

I am with you, why can't I edit a document when I am watching YouTube, why can't I play Spotify & YouTube side by side ? Why can't I watch stocks & check mail at the same time, they have to work on multitasking.

Pictures, videos and films with rounded corners and part cut away due to that fugly ir/camera/sensor bank on the top. iPhone X screen size is way smaller than on regular Plus model when scaled so that the image is not ruined by iPhone X screen dimensions. Not impressed by this feature.

Also, Face ID seems to be buggy and slow at this point... Bring on the Face ID 2.0 and we have something wonderful. Otherwise I like what I see. Unfortunately, poor and slow unlocking (hopefully not) and the screwed up dimensions of that screen are leaving me second guessing if I really want the X or should I just get the good old iPhone 6 Plus version 4.0 aka iPhone 8...

But in your case a $549 iPhone 7 or even a $449 6S will be leaps and bounds ahead of what you are already using. The question you have to ask yourself is "is the iPhone X worth $450 - $550 more?"
