Just sold my 7+ yesterday, only to find out I'll have to spend twice that to get the iPhone X.

Damn.

It was a suggestion, free to follow anything you don’t like for the rest of your life
Thank you! As I said I don't like the high prices of the iPhone 8 and 8 plus and Xiaomi is offering the same with super Amoled and less bezels for around $ 400-500. Would be a hard sell for Apple in India and china and I can't wait for the numbers :D

Pictures, videos and films with rounded corners and part cut away due to that fugly ir/camera/sensor bank on the top. iPhone X screen size is way smaller than on regular Plus model when scaled so that the image is not ruined by iPhone X screen dimensions. Not impressed by this feature.

Also, Face ID seems to be buggy and slow at this point... Bring on the Face ID 2.0 and we have something wonderful. Otherwise I like what I see. Unfortunately, poor and slow unlocking (hopefully not) and the screwed up dimensions of that screen are leaving me second guessing if I really want the X or should I just get the good old iPhone 6 Plus version 4.0 aka iPhone 8...
On Youtube videos and such it will have a black border around the video so to emulate the Bezels. You can see this happening on the Essential Phone

That's fair, like i mentioned, people who use it less don't need to upgrade for the latest and greatest every year.

There are people out there who use this as their primary consumption and content creation device. For them, a $1000 phone is reasonable considering it replaces their laptop (partly) and an expensive camera.
$1000+ is WAYYYYYY too much for the top of the line smartphone, but I can't wait for Apple to take my money

With all this Artificial Inteligence, machine learning and animated emoji technology can't they re-animate Steve Jobs to make a keynote?

Too soon?

True. When I travel the iPhone is usually the only computer I want to take with me if possible.

For those not into the X and face id - the iPhone 8 models still have Touch ID, they’re just as new, just as fast, and at a much more attractive price point. I personally think the design of the 8 models looks more attractive too, but that’s just my opinion.

The only thing i don't like is the way video and photo's drapes around the notch so now a part of the image is not visible! Is it possible to change it so it don't drapes around the notch maybe crop it a little? Am i the only one who finds this irritating?

Apps will simulate a bezel (it does this with Galaxy S8 and Essential Phone and other bezelless devices)

Totally agree with the top notch being a distraction. There's no way you can watch a film or look at a picture without being distracted. It's ridiculous. So much so that I have no doubt Apple will very soon make it an option to level out films and pictures by adding a black bar. I really thought this would have been an option from the beginning. And there's no way that no one at Apple thought the same as the majority of us almost everywhere! I mean, Apple are supposed to be into their aesthetics, right?

Watching him use it, not that impressed. That notch in the display is distracting.

I'm curious. What would you suggest apple do with all the hardware that needs to be on the front of the phone? So many hate it (for the record, the notch is absolutely fine with me and I'm sure with most people who don't hate everything as the macrumors' folks do are also ok with it), I'd like to see just one of you haters come up with a workable solution since many of you are obviously smarter than apple. And If you come up with something better, Tim Cook will redesign the front of the phone before it's release.

I'm depending upon you, Enabledobject, to put your xxx where your xxx is and be constructive and offer a better solution. You can do it, if you try, I'm quite sure.

Man, some of you people are real negative Nancy's. This wasn't exactly a world-changing event but there was some decent news:

1. Apple managed to get 4K movies down to the same price as HD movies AND have it be backwards compatible. That's a win I didn't expect.

2. The 4K TV is really far behind the times, but at least Apple caught up eventually. As someone with a 4K OLED this will finally make me to upgrade from the original Apple TV. This will be great for HomeKit (as I now have a usable hub at home).

3. I actually have been diagnosed with OCD yet that bezel doesn't trouble me all that much. I'll be keeping a black background anyway (to take advantage of those lovely blacks), so it shouldn't matter for general appearance

4. They bumped up the storage in all phones and kept the price of the X below $1,000. Both are pleasant surprises in isolation and pretty great when taken together.

5. That Face ID issue was obviously a demo problem. It was displaying that message about the iPhone needing the passcode before using Face ID, like it does for Touch ID. If their statistics are to be believed this will be much more secure than Touch ID. Plus I never liked having to get my thumb on the button to open my phone. This promises to be decently more convenient for me.

6. They managed to fit all their Face ID processing on the device itself, which is fairly impressive. Also several of the internal components are apparently designed in-house, which to me indicates Apple's increasing independence from the supply chain issues of others.

I could go on, but I think I've made my point. It's so easy to blast Apple and get that immediate sense of superiority, but I'm relatively pleased with this event. I was initially thinking of getting the TV and the IPhone 8 (I have the 6 right now), but after today I think I'll shell out for the X. I'm hoping that after this I'll be all caught up on my Apple toys until 2020 or so.

I loved almost anything about the new iPhone 10, but the keynote was dull. For such an important date, where are the emotions, the surprises, tge wows? Steve Jobs' were all a show. This was boring and disappointing for a very special trillion dollar company

Could Apple really be that dense? That would suck to have to take my sunglasses off every time I wanted to use my phone, sigh. Good point, I hadn't thought of that in giving up touch ID.
Take them off, no. Lift them, yes. And I don't imagine you'd have to do it *everytime* you used your phone. It depends on how you set the lock screen. If it shuts down quick, then yes, you'd have to lift off the glasses a lot. If you set the lock screen so it takes a long time to shut down, then you wouldn't. But yes, if you're a person who uses their phone while wearing sunglasses more than using your phone without sunglasses, then iPhone X probably isn't for you.

Still don't understand the hype of the curved corners. That's how you get black boxes on videos or get part of it cut off. Bad idea IMO. Also faceid is db, what if it's in the middle of the night and it's pitch black?

I think Apple will include a setting that all you to skip th notch area. Maybe soon

I hope so.

I'm really glad they got rid of the bezels, but as it stands now, I will buy the new Apple Watch and wait for the software upgrade you mention.

No. Way. X is half the price of my MacBook Pro. I use that for everything and I like it. My phone is a communication device. Not a gaming device. Camera on the 8 is good enough.

So what's so special about this thing that you can't do with an iPhone 6s or 8? Cool, it has a 5.8" screen. But it still runs iOS which means you can't do many useful things with it and it's treated and used in pretty much the same way as an iPhone 6s. A 2 year old device.

"Unless you have an identical twin" you see, TouchID doesn't care about that since even identical twins have different finger prints. So there's that. Now we're waiting for a price.

edit aaaaaand it's $1000. $1000 for a ****ing phone. What a joke.

It is 1400$ for the base model in my country and 1600$ for the 256gb one lol

As for FaceID. All those complaining about not being able to use it with sun glasses - simple solution.... use passcode! Strength, are we all really becoming that lazy and pretentious?

Never was a fan of faceid from the rumour days. But a company has to do what a company has to do. And if they couldn't get TouchID to work, they had no real choice for edge2edge!
