That first demo of Face ID on stage with Craig was a total bummer. "Here, let's show you just how easy it is to use Face ID...errr, let's go to plan B and enter the passcode." (My paraphrase)

I guess I will have to wait for reviews. The keynote made me less excited, and damn I was ready to upgrade from my 6s too. I guess we will see in November?

Traded 1 in 7 billion for 1 in 1 million. FaceID is the result of technology not being available when they wanted. They should have just waited. The additional gestures are going to be a nightmare for any non-savvy person. My very small children can use the iDevices we have no problem. They will be screwed with this. As will my Mom. Hopefully its just a one off and they return to usability with the 8S or the 9 when they have under screen touchID and can have virtual home button.

Am I the only one who doesn't like how the new gestures for the iPhone X work? I mean, I like to access Control Centre from the bottom, not from the top. And with that size, is almost impossible to operate it with one hand...

The gestures are the one thing I really did like. When I was still using iPhones, I'd jailbreak, and one of my favorite tweaks allowed you to close apps by swiping from the bottom, and it's a wonderful paradigm.

Other than than the UI interaction, which I think they nailed, the rest of the X is good, but not good enough to justify the huge price increase.

By calling this the "iPhone X (Ten) and skipping 7S to iPhone 8, what is going to happen next year, iPhone 9 or 11 or go by the model year like they do with Mac releases......

They should just reserve the notch for Status information. Photo and video content should start from where the round corners ends. How the area above/below the round corners and the notch be used in apps should be up to the developer. If they stick to these rules in stock apps, and make it easy for developers to Auto-layout to these rules. I can live with the notch.

Otherwise I agree, cutting corners and notching in videos is absolutely horrid. That said, most content are 16:9, so will not even get close to the rounded corner sides without cutting a lot of content out. Maybe only Hollywood films that are even shorter than 16:9.

Not being funny, cute, posturing or anything. I just can't drop $1K on a phone, no matter how awesome it is. Just don't have that coin.

Same here. There are plenty of good Android phones at well less than $1k. The one I got has been quite good and this stuff from Apple is very MEH.

I'm torn, I really don't want to see Touch ID go. Not confidence inspiring that Craig couldn't get Face ID to work either. And he was pretty specific about holding it up to your face so the rumors about high angle and sitting on a flat surface may be wrong. In the video they had it on the ground with the swimmer but she pulled herself up and largely over the screen to unlock. I like many of the other features but I'm not sure whether I'll go in based upon Touch ID's demise and Face ID as a replacement. On the plus side I have six more weeks to decide :p
