Apple could announce a god damn cure for cancer and Mac Rumors commenters would be "not convinced".

I dunno, Touch ID under the display would have been enough for me. If you're having to touch the display anyway with Face ID, I'd argue it's not really that much more convenient.

I've been wrong plenty of times though and I'm frequently disappointed until I sleep on it and try it for myself, or read what early adopters have said. So don't take my initial thoughts as gospel.

But I wonder — if it was feasible to implement Touch ID under the screen, would they have done it or not? Was FaceID the mechanism they always wanted, or was it the only one they could practically implement on an edge-to-edge display?

The comments are nothing short of what I expected. I'm really not sure what people were expecting. It's a smart phone. We've been using them for a decade now. They're going to get faster.

I was pleasantly surprised with:
  • The iPhone 8. Looks way sexy.
  • The fact that wireless charging is Qi compatible.
  • The new Watch actually. I thought it was the most exciting part of the keynote. In my opinion this is an area where Apple is quietly killing it. I still have the original and I'm glad I didn't get the Series 2 as the Series 3 looks like the device I really wanted.
I sense FaceID is gonna be much like TouchID. "Bleh. Lame." And then, "Man, how did I live without it!"

I think Apple is already entrenched well into the next decade in AR. The iPhone X is pretty cool but I couldn't imagine anything they could do that was going to make me go, "WOAH!" FaceID is really smooth looking though. I can't comment on it much until I actually use it. I will probably be more impressed when I see it. Short of having all the sensors invisible and under the glass, I don't know that anything could have blown me away. (And it's hilarious to say that given how crazy the technology is.)

What I wanted to see was the death of Lightning and a transition to USB-C. Sadly, the time for doing that was with the iPhone 7 and they didn't so... they won't.

I was in front of my Apple TV with an uninterrupted 100mbs connection, but at least 50% of the keynote was unwatchable due to delays, hangups, and video/audio that was not synced. Nice job Apple.

Kind of hard to get excited about these new things when they can't even get this right.

It was perfectly fine here. And everyone else I know watching it had no issues either.

Need to watch the keynote and see how ios works on this thing but for the price I'm leaning towards holding off a year and buy a used iphone 7 or iphone se or something. Same the didn't update the SE sized phone. Not liking faceID seems like a clumsy way to unlock a phone.

I'd rather have the bezels + awesome Touch ID, than that ugly notch and questionable Face ID.
Sorry Apple, but videos and games look hideous on iPhone X. And the swipe down to reveal the control center... o_O

Hopefully gen 2 or 3 of 'iPhone X' will adress all these obvious drawbacks.

I like the bunny ears. What I don’t like is 64gb on the $1000 phone. Or the lack of promotion.
I wouldn't expect them to announce any promotions at the introduction. But yes, I agree that it should be 128 GB at that price.
