or companies would force their users to switch.

see: Epic.
Let's see it with a differente example. You are Nike, a big shoe distributor sells your shoes in their store and gets a 30% cut but forbids you offering your own brand anywhere else and once DMA forces them to let you do so, they still want to have control over which shoes you will be allowed to sell outside their store but still demand a cut without using their storefront or building. Sounds fair to you?

There may be some requirements, but the current requirements will not fly. They are too restricting and give the power to Apple, which the DMA does not accept. After all, they are trying to curb the power that Apple has over the developers and competitors, so why will they let Apple decide who should be allowed and who should not be.
Knowing how people are it’s not restrictive enough.

And, solidifying Apple’s marketshare in the EU. :) Fortunately for Apple, their growing share of the EU market is set to get even larger. Is this what they meant by increasing competition?
It actually means less profit for Apple from Game developers. BIG RESPECT to Epic Games for being brave enough to challenge the Goliath in the first place!

Just unlike the app store where you'll be directed to shovelware and cheap copies that want to scam you first, even when you type in the name correctly, and where you won't find anything when you make a spelling error.

So much better...
funny how I was able to do an App Store refund of every single IAP purchase from Asphalt Overdrive after Gameloft shut the game down.

imagine doing that had I did IAP from Asphalt XYZ downloaded from the web.

quite literally better via App Store.

sounds like a massive fail for the user experience

"hey you want our app?"

"yeah but I don't see it on the App Store"

"nah you gotta go to the website and download because we want more money"

"terrible"

"oh and type it correctly or else you might go to a scam site"

this is so stupid

It is actually the other way around.

"nah you gotta go to the Apple store and download because Apple wants more money"

Here before someone repeats, "You bought your iPhone knowing it was limited to the App Store!".

I bought my iPad Pro knowing it wouldn't connect to external drives. Apple changed the software, and now it can.
That comparison doesn’t work…one is about whether or not the App Store constitutes some secret nefarious scheme by Apple to be a “monopoly“, the other is about connectivity specs.

Very few apps will be distributed like this because app developers know very few customers will be willing to jump through hoops. Let's be honest - most customers won't install an app from the app store to begin with unless they really want the app. But choice is good wouldn't you agree?
Yeah, share your credit card, billing address, and other personal information with strangers.I can foresee lots of fake websites distributing malware and stealing user information.
True, Mac users are already able to download apps off websites, but these users are mainly adults with at least an inch of brain, able to detect danger.
Phone users range from children to the elderly, a wide range of vulnerable users who may not be able to perceive any danger.
If this is what the EU wants, they are going to be sorry.

There are a lot of people that prefer Apple products, but don't agree with every company policy.
I don't agree with Sony locking Playstation down
I don't agree with Microsoft locking Xbox down
I don't agree with Nintendo locking Switch down
I don't agree with Tesla locking Model S/3/X/Y/Cybertruck down
I don't agree with Canon locking their cameras down

Doesn't mean I can willy nilly force them open.

There is something called PayPal if you are unsure whom you are gonna give your credit card details. Like Apps don't exist in the AppStore that harvest user information (Temu, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook etc.)

The Article is from 8 Years ago. Now the MacOS asks for permission before allowing an application the access to a certain folder.

And? People click yes yes yes yes yes yes during installation of Adobe products. Same problem would have still happened.
I love it how this is the standard answer once you people are out of arguments.

I love how you think I'm out of arguments.

How come I don't have the same issues with all the software I use from the web including Creative Cloud?, because I never use the Mac AppStore?

Imagine a dude going to the Genius Bar and having the Genius say "Well I don't have any problems"

neither did iOS, steve jobs wanted developers to write Web Applications. The AppStore launched later.
context is native apps.

but glad you think app developers should just write web apps if it was all the same which means this whole controversy was pointless. if not, why did you bring that up?

The price of the hardware will just go up.
Sure, I don't mind paying more if they actually build something better. If not, and if they continue to push out software updates that turn a normally working phone into a space heater, I'll be forced to look elsewhere. At the same time they need to address issues with eyestrain and headaches. There is a point at which even those with inertia will start to move away from the Apple ecosystem. At that point, it's all over for Apple.

1) So because someone prefers not to read or think and clicks on every "yes" button, it's a problem of althertive sources.

2) Did you forget the classic: You're holding it wrong? Also the "Genius bar" isn't so genius as you may think, they are standard Electronic store sellers following Apple's guidelines.
