Being a hearing aid user, these are overkill, for me. I don't think the price is too high unless the reviews aren't as good as others in the price range.

I’m being unreasonable for waiting to get them in hand to judge for myself?

A price tag says NOTHING to me about quality. I want to judge for myself.
so if they're **** doesn't matter you paid $550.

If you think these bluetooth headphones will come anywhere near any audiophile grade headphones you can get for $500, you're smoking crack.

I can guarantee my LCD-2's and DT1990's will walk all over these and laugh while doing it.

Stop trying to defend Apple for being ******.

is this you?

Couldn’t care less. I’ll buy another pair in a heartbeat on original price if I can buy them. The first pair I have I have to import them, and I love them. And this was before the latest home theater firmware update.
Damn, I could barely justify half the cost given how locked in they are but you do you. Shame they're not available where you are.

Based on the replies, it’s painfully obvious most here have never purchased high end headphones.

In the audiophile space, $550 is not unreasonable. We’ll see if the sound lines up with the asking.

These are not geared toward the casual, bargain oriented user; and that’s ok. Not certain how something can be overpriced before anyone has reviewed them.

What I find endlessly fascinating is the cycle of Apple releasing a new product, being immediately panned for design and/or price, only for said product to become the de facto staple in its respective category (remember the “cotton swab” memes 🤔).

Rinse and repeat, it seems.

> audiophile
> doesn't have a headphone jack port

sorry, but that makes no sense at all.

Wired >>> Wireless.

However, Hi-res codecs exists and are used by audio snobs too. Are these in-line with LDAC? I have my doubts but either way, I want to see for myself.

500$ audiophile headphones? I'd love to hear about these. The ones I use cost 1500$. Audiophile grade headphones cost quite a lot.
But as time passes, the audiophile grade headphones and these ANC cans are getting closer and closer in sound quality. So I'm expecting that these cans will sound almost as good as a 2000$ one.

I purchased B&W PX7 last year and then returned them because they were not comfortable, but their sound quality was not too different compared to a Sennheiser HD800, which I also owned at one point. I think we are at a stage where audiophile is stagnating and mass consumer audio is catching up. It's not 2000's anymore.

My powerbeats Pro sounds amazing for a bluetooth in ear headset. You couldn't get this kind of sound quality 20 years ago from anything below 700$. And they would be over ear headphones, not in ear ones.

No-one minds expensive if the expense is worth it....but just on paper bar the apple convenience with pairing these look expensive compared to quite a few other products...it will be interesting to see what the reviewers say and what I think when I actually try a pair....
"On paper" they're much more than anything else in the price range.

  • Spatial audio w/head tracking
  • Several color choices
  • Adaptive EQ
  • Auto source switching
What does Bose/Sony/Microsoft make that has these capabilities?

My $1200 Shure’s laugh at this price. All the whining about the price of these is amusing to an audio enthusiast. Apple has actually done something unique, design-wise (though I give the white version 6 weeks before it gets grungy as hell). SQ remains to be heard, but I will wager it’s pretty good.

Lightning cable was arguably a poor choice- USB-C should have been used.

Will wait for the second version next year or two.
Totally agree on this post, even the USB-C choice. Seems a bit lazy to go with lightning here. But hey, it gives Tim a chance to sell another adapter cable (lightening to 3.5").

I have to assume there will be a case sold as an accessory that protects the entire thing because the included bra doesn't look protective for some parts.

Bra! Haha, very good.

I'm interested, but £200+ too much, and the "bra" isn't nearly robust enough.

Bose and Sony nailed the included carry case years ago. The inevitable official Apple case will be another £100 I'd expect.
