Cool. So we have something in common. Great.

But what's the problem? You don't agree that the panels are different? This despite the fact that the info is readily available on the Apple website? Hey. I'm not making this up. Go have a look for yourself.

And I'm open for discussion, but please don't give me this: "My education is not in question, your 'facts' are." because the facts sir, are readily available on wikipedia. I didn't invent these panels, no, but I'm obviously not alone to come to this [preliminary] findings.

I may have given you a nod, a bad feeling, but that was most definitely not the context of my reply. You read it wrong :D

I have a fully open mind, and appreciate that you are taking the time for this conversation. I am asking exactly where Apple states that the iPod Touch uses a TN panel (or something else lesser than an IPS).

I am not debating a TN panel versus an IPS (or sIPS) display, I am trying to figure out exactly were you are getting the information that outlines that the iPod Touch has something other than an IPS Display.

Lack of information on Apple's tech specification pages is quite common. And more commonly leaves detailed info out on what they deem to be more 'consumer' level products.

I thought that 802.11g supports only 54 Mbit/s, while 802.11n should be 3 to 10 times faster. Wouldn't web pages load faster then?

no, you can only surf the internet as fast the internet connection. The higher speeds only help if you have that fast of an internet connection. for example, most people have a 3-20mbps connection. for these people, wireless G is more than enough. you won't get any faster speeds with N because your internet is still the same speed. the only thing that might improve is range. but for the better range, you need a N router too.

Nano Touch (of frostbite)

I like having the physical click wheel so that in the winter I can skip songs in my pocket without having to take my gloves off. I guess since Apple is located in southern Cal, they don't have this problem.

Perhaps Apple's forecasting global warming to "solve" this shortcoming

I believe the new product releases was generally a hit or miss sort of thing. Apple did a pretty good job at distancing the features between all the models at this event. However, the iPhone 4 remains the gold standard (minus the AT&T service) which leaves me no choice but to wait for the right time to get the iPhone.

Oh does anyone think the new iPod Touch will have a weaker antennae with the smaller opening in the back?

Complaints are unfounded

All these people are complaining about the new revisions of the product like Apple is the GOVERNMENT coming to take the features out of the devices you already own!!

Or, they sound like shareholders who are REALLY concerned these things won't sell to anyone.

Shouldn't we applaud there are tons of different types of ipods available on the market? The refurb previous generations will still be available for a while, and you can always get them on ebay after that.

I'm not sure if you know this but you are legally allowed, by the government AND apple, to own ALL the different ipod models, one of each generation!! Yes that's right! You can have a nano with video playback AND one with a touchscreen!

Yay!

I am a photographer. I know well and good what IPS technology is. I have 3 monitors that have this technology so that I can produce color accurate photos for print. My education is not in question, your 'facts' are.

But it's weird that Apple says that the iPad and iPhone has IPS technology in both of their Features page, and not for the iPod touch.

The new Nano form factor is plain out stupid and I fear the new Shuffle may be too small for easy holding. It looks like the 4th gen Nano and 3rd Gen Shuffle were the evolutionary highs from an ergonomic standpoint.

I fully agree. But I also don't get why they don't boast the iPhone's processor speed on their tech specs either. I thought that they would be more proud of their A4 chip, but perhaps they are trying to avoid the GHz Myth :p .

I don't know. But, I am fully prepared to accept that the iPod Touch uses a TN display as opposed to IPS! I just want them to post it up as fact if that is the case. Even if it was a TN panel, it looks like the images and reviews on the display appear to be good so far!

Can the ipod touch take photos

In theory? Yes.
In practice? No. The RGB sensor is made for video, and photos are even lower resolution. At 0.69 megapixels it's pretty useless.

I guess the touch got too thin to use Apple's backlit sensor.

I dont think there's IPS... go look at engadget's hands-on video. ipod touch's screen goes blue when the camera panned. the iphone4 beside it was normal.

Ok, I just gotta say, for those complaining about the Nano.

First, the lack of a clickwheel/physical buttons. I just went ot Apple's site to make sure, but does everyone complaining about this realize that it still supports the remote on the headphones?! There is your buttons for when you are walking/excercising and don't want to look at the nano. Personally, I find the remote a much better thing for that kind of thing anyways over the click wheel (it's one of the two reasons I like my fifth gen over my 3rd gen nano. Otherwise, I miss the form of the 3rd gen nano that fit in a pocket better. I really don't see why people like this stick form which tends to stick into your leg if you don't place it just right in your pocket and doesn't fit in the small pocket of my safety vest I wera on my motorcycle so well).

2nd, lack of video playing ability. The only reason I could even see buying the nano for video capability is if you wanted a cheaper ipod touch. As some one said, it's not a touch. if you want video, spend a little extra and get the touch. It will do this far better than the nano anyways with a much better screen for it. Sure, it's neat playing video on my nano. Something I've only done when the nanos were new to me and then never used them for that again. Maybe if I didn't have a laptop or an iphone would I use it. But it's more of a neat extra for a toy that I never even use than something I'd say is essential to the nano.

3rd. Lack of being able to record video. Personally I would have rather it taken pictures anyways :p. Once again, a feature that I think is nifty but not really essential. The ipod touch once again is probably better for htis anyways (runs iOS so you can even get apps to edit those videos you shot and you can see them better).

Really, 2 of the three main complaints I see are from people I suspect would do better off with a Touch anyways. The Nano shouldn't be competing with the touch. It will lose and it is not a good proposition to create competition for your other products.

And people saying that small size doesn't matter. Um, yes it does. If size isn't that important to you, once again, get a Touch! IT's not that much bigger than the fifth gen nano and it will do far more. So why are you even in the market for a Nano if size isn't important? That's the biggest reason to get a nano or shuffle. For those who want a music player that really stays out of the way.

I'm glad they made it smaller! It honestly needed to get smaller. The third generation had a much better form and then they went back to the more awkward stick form that doesn't really fit in pockets well (or really sit on your arm well). The touch screen was a good compromise to make it smaller (seeing as it supports the remote in the headphones. Without that I'd fully agree getting rid of hte clickwheel was bad).

Does the new Nano even have coverflow? And why do we have to pinch-rotate the screen instead of having it does it automatically? The whole thing turns very archaic just for the sake of a touch screen.

I think before we do this

to the 6G iPod nano, we better actually get our hands on one and actually use it. The problem with the new nano is that because everything is now mostly touchscreen operated, we have to essentially "relearn" how to navigate around the device, unlike the 1G to 5G nanos, which were dependent on the click wheel interface.

My only potential complaint is whether my Sony CDX-GT630UI car stereo with the USB iPod connection will properly recognize the device and use the car stereo's controls to navigate around the player. I know that it works with my 3G and 4G iPod nanos and 120 GB 6.5G iPod classic....

This man speaks the truth

Guys, how cool would it be if the nano featured a phone icon on the home screen and Steve suddenly said: "We present to you the iPhone nano".

That would be awesome, having such a small device with a phone for when the iPhone is too large to carry around. Make a little mic on the side and then you can use the clip for handsfree calling with the included earphones.

No SMS though. That would be a pain, haha.

OK, when I think about it, this is a stupid idea. But I still hope we see an iPhone nano someday. I think there's a market for it.

Mr. Jobs joked about people wearing the nano like a watch. That's the only cool use I can think of for the thing. Someone who makes a watch-type case is going to bank.

As a watch, the Nano looks pretty fugly.

Did anyone notice that Steve Jobs said that the HDR feature would be coming to iPad? Hint at future iPad camera I believe. ;)

With iPad's size we should be hoping for a full-frame sensor and a metal mount for Apple's new range of objectives. That would be great. They would be called i24mm, i50mm and i85mm.

I do agree with the nano watch thing, that actually sounds like an awesome idea. The wrist is such a convenient place for it.

Yeah, I suspect if I were to buy the new nano I'd actually be annoyed it didn't have a accelerometer or whatever my nano and iphone use to know they're being rotated. What's even wierder is that I don't like it on my nano (cause I don't want to use coverflow and I hate it automatically going to that anytime I move it) but I think on this device it would be a lot more important (with size and shape of it I am betting it will be hard to keep it one side up and would be nice if it just kept up with you on which way you were holding it at the moment).

In my opinion, this is the largest drawback of the new nano and something I'd like to see them put back in.

Well, I know we added a connection thingy to my Toyota's radio that let you control the ipod through it. My iphone works fine with it (Though the iphone bitches about it not being made for it) and I've really seen no glitches (save once my iphone had to be restarted cause it was messing up the iphone controls. Discovered when we tried roommie's iphone and the controls went back to working fine. Only had this happen a few times and then I discovered that the best way to solve it is to close the ipod app in multi tasking if it is doing that. Something abotu the ipod app running in the background messes up the car radio).
