I like the new Nano and will be buying one. I never used the video or camera on my Nano 5g....and never watched videos on it either. I found it to be a little awkward size wise, even though it was very slim, I just couldn't find a comfortable way to wear it. I liked the radio and that is had enough space to hold my whole library.

My shuffle was brilliant size wise and very easy to use. I also like the easy way to clip it on and wear it. Perfect device for tunes while riding my motorcycle. I just wished I had more control of the music and more space.

The new Nano is perfect for my personal needs....don't need that camera or video, small form factor with clip to wear easy, and more control over my music than the shuffle...plus enough space to hold my whole library, which is only 12gb anyway.

Fo me, the new Nano is in for the win! I'll be buying one.

Not sure on the new Nano. I know it's not exactly possible but removing video playback and the camera is a step back. It doesn't strike me as Apple-like to step back like that.

I like the touch but the capacity is a let down.

No new Classics? A 320gb drive in one of those would have been killer. I'd have bought one just to carry my whole library on me.

I thought that 802.11g supports only 54 Mbit/s, while 802.11n should be 3 to 10 times faster. Wouldn't web pages load faster then?

Except your internet probably isn't faster than 54Mbps unless you have Fiber Optic or FTTH or something.

I don't like that the iPod touch has 0.7MP camera... I loved the fantastic photos taken on an iPhone and my dumbphone 5 years ago had an 1.3MP camera :mad:

i see the reasons why people think the new nano is nice. ease of clipping a la shuffle, didn't use video on old nano, etc...

hopefully you like the touch screen for navigation, videos on engadget seemed to indicate navigation can be tricky for backing out of menus. That is my concern for using it for exercise. i want more physical controls that i don't need to focus on a screen for.

can't go with a shuffle since you lose nike+

hopefully people aren't frustrated with the navigation. too bad nano didn't retain old shape and have touchscreen & scroll wheel for the best of both worlds.

Well, to be honest I might be tempted to pick one up in the next few months to "compliment" my 2G & 5G Nanos, probably the Product Red version since both of my Nanos are Product Red versions. That doesn't mean I'll consider it the best of the trio, the 5G will get that nod. The only question now is will the new Nano turn out to be the flop the 3rd Gen Shuffle was.:confused:

I think Apple's undying obsession with the thinness and multi-touch are really interfering with some of their latest products to the point of disrupting ergonomics. (see: Magic Mouse, which I thought was just lackluster)

I'm not sure they will be satisfied until they make an iPod that's as thin and small as a postage stamp. (And for desktops I'm not sure I'll ever need or want anything thinner than my white intel imac, which is an obese porker if you compare it to today's iMacs.)

Future catch phrase: "The New Ipod Nano/Shuffle: Now easier to lose than ever."

Sure it's a little more portable now, but was the previous shuffle such a huge burden for anyone? And of course the screen is now gimped as far as size goes.

I like the touch updates but I'm kind of frustrated that they keep the lowest model at 8 gb. Seems like they should have bumped it up to 16 to me.

The big news of the day should be the entry level iPod touch!

I'm glad they finally killed the bizzare situation of having the entry level ipod touch being the previous years model!!! To me that is the biggest news of the day.

I called this as likely to happen, but thought that it would be replaced by a lower specced, smaller form factor iPod touch "mini". So I'm happy with the fact we have the latest generation at the cheapest price point now - effectively the entry level ipod touch just received 2 years worth of upgrades!

On another note: that new nano is cool, but overpriced for what you get. might consider getting it as a watch though....

So true, I was thinking yesterday how hard it was going to decide between updating to a 47" TV and the new Ipod touch(which I thought the lowest on would be bumped up to 16GB).
On the bright side Apple helped me with my decision just as MS did with their douchebag move of raising $10 to Live. In the end Samsung (tv) and Sony (PS3) will end up getting my money.

If i buy a Mac with the student discount and get the free ipod touch, will it be for this new 8gb touch or the previous generation?

Called apple store: Said YES
Online apple store: Said NO
Called Best Buy: Said NO

Can someone please confirm this (with link)?

I had no idea the iPod Touch cost the same as a 47" TV and a PS3!! :confused:

Though I do agree that 16gb should be the minimum size for that device. It appears they want people to spend $300 US on these things, hoping people will skip the low end model.

Finally, the next generation of the iPod touch includes the Retina Display with 324 pixels per inch that made its debut on the iPhone 4.
I'm sorry to have to dissapoint so many people here, but the iPod Touch got a cheaper non-IPS, LED backlighting display.

Which means what? That it did not got the required battery capacity upgrade. Unfortunately.

No offense intended, but it quite clear on the site if you follow the footnotes.

Apple Computer said:
If you’re a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level and you buy a new Mac with Apple education pricing from May 25 through September 7, 2010, you can get a free 8GB iPod touch.* No wonder they call these the best years of your life.

*Buy a qualifying Mac and iPod with Apple education pricing from May 25, 2010, through September 7, 2010, and receive an online rebate up to $199. 8GB iPod touch is second generation. Please review Terms and conditions apply. to see a list of all qualifying products.
1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less.

Really? Oh dear...this probably also means that iPhone 5 will follow suit just as i feared.

The Nano WAS the one I am most excited for, and has become the biggest failure of the show.

Embarrassing price tier for the Nano (too far from Shuffle too close to Touch), barebone features, touch screen that doesn't do much for a machine this small, iPod Touch wannabe instead of a class of its own...

You said it mate... Exactly the same feeling here - I have real problems with touch screens when my hands get wet or sweaty (when I'm working out), looks like I'll be buying it's predecessor before they all disappear...

probably apple will keep selling the old iPod nano like they did for iPod shuffle for a while (when they removed the buttons) :rolleyes:

To quote again from the website:

iPod nano includes VoiceOver, the gesture-based screen reader that lets visually impaired users browse and select songs without viewing the screen. Instead, you’ll hear a synthesized voice speaking the names of menus, songs, and artists. Touch the screen to hear a description of the item under your finger, then double-tap, drag, or flick to control iPod nano. Use the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic to control your music without looking at the screen.
Bold mine.

So you can have it tell you what is happening on the screen as you touch it, and/or you can voice command it if you get earphones with remote and mic control.

Yes. This is it:

1.) Lower contrast ration.
2.) Weaker colors.
3.) Smaller viewing angle.

Have a look at the website:

iPhone Display

* Retina display
* 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
* 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi
* 800:1 contrast ratio (typical)
* 500 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
* Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front and back
* Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously

iPod Touch Display

* 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
* 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch

HDR for iPhone only?

I don't see anything about High Dynamic Range (HDR) on the iPod touch site so I assume HDR is for iPhone only, right?

That's their plan and it works. You're tired of having a shuffle with no display, get a super shuffle, I mean Nano. You miss having video on the Nano? Get a 8GB Touch. Not satisfied with only 8GB? Spend "a little more" for the "more popular" 32GB Touch. Don't like the crappy camera on the new Touch? Get an iPhone...with a contract of course. Don't want an iPhone, wait until next year for the 5th Gen Touch with "improved" camera.:cool:
