No thanks, I'll stick with my PS4, Parallels Desktop for Windows XP legacy games and when my plan finally comes to fruitation, Windows 10 via Bootcamp for modern games.

So when I subscribe for a month and download the games to play them offline, the game stops working after a month?

I imagine it might be something like Nintendo's classic games on the Switch - you have to re-authenticate every few weeks (or days? I forgot) in order to continue playing offline.

However, this announcement is very underwhelming.

Personally I think it’s great Apple is financially backing indie developers to make interesting and unique games for my chosen platform that probably wouldn’t see the light of day otherwise. That is a GOOD thing.

But it’s just games people. No one is putting a gun to your head to subscribe to ANYTHING they announced today. If you don’t want it or don’t have a use/desire for it, don’t pay for it.

That however would be too simple and this tiny portion of the internet would much rather be negative.

I don't need bleeding edge gaming technology, I just want:
- No ADs
- No In-app-purchase
- No data mining
- Offline playing

Seems like freemium has destroyed the game industry. I don't seem to get 2 minutes into any game without some stupid AD or paywall. I miss one-time paid games. I'm looking forward to Apple Arcade. Am I alone?

Mac just got 100 exclusive family safe games! :)

O.K. I like this.

In the end it will much depend on the quality of those games.

I’d say you’re alone in this thread... people want a better gaming experience even if it is a mobile device. And I concur, no major developer rockstar etc. will ever code an epic game for touch controls.. their old titles don’t count, and are awful with touch.

Then use a game pad. AppleTV has allowed developers to require game pads for a while now.

Compatible input devices are very limited on Apple devices. For a gaming ecosystem to succeed it needs diverse input options like PS4, Xbox One, Switch Pro, Wii U Pro controllers, arcade sticks, etc. that's why PC is king for gaming. Even a $5 Raspberry Pi running Retropie/Recalbox/Batocera has tons more input options.

No doubt WWDC announcement. Note they didn’t give price and said they have more to share soon. I for one am amped! I love playing rocket league, apex and Forza atm but sometimes I do chill and play simple games on my iPad. I’ll give arcade a go.

If Apple Arcade is going to work across all platforms (including the Mac), then clearly selling another “Apple accessory” would generate more money, as in a possible announcement of an official branded controller at WWDC. Hopefully they thought this through in using the word “arcade”. Since not all games are touch-based. As going to the arcade I usually associate with playing games with a physical joystick/controller. Hopefully they will realize that similar to the Apple Pencil, that this area of focus on games also really needs that extra precision.

Awesome, I often search for games with tvOS/iOS/macOS cross play/iCloud saves

Are you drunk or something? There are more than 20,000 games for Mac on Steam alone, including super popular titles like Counter-Strike or Rocket League. Linux has just about 12,000. Plus, with Fortnite, one of the most popular games at the moment is available for Mac, but not for Linux.
He is just trolling. All my friends switched to Macs and we all play games, multiplayer online between us. Linux is a mess for gaming.

I agree that Apple needs to allow iOS games to be optionally exclusive to game controllers if the developer want's that. Something like Altos adventure and Cat Quest are OK without a game controller, but if controllers would be allowed, the iOS games like would be some much better.

I actually love playing games on my AppleTV 4K. One of the few Apple devices I have no issues with. I was hoping they would create some sort of service that let you play games across iOS and Mac. It's nice that indie developers can get a platform to show off their work and make some money.

IMHO this is good news. If it takes off, and more iOS/Mac users play games, we could maybe see more games from AAA developers that are sold in the app store. Especially on the Mac. Though Apple will need to stock most of their Mac's with decent dGPU's.

Also, it would be nice if Apple came out with their own controller. One with actual L3/R3 buttons.

Meh... this is another insult for Mac users, for me. So, they just downgraded the gaming on Mac to mobile level.
Why should I trust Apple for gaming?? They never offered top gpu options to play games properly and macOS was always behind Windows when it comes to optimization for games.
This is good for kids and compete with Nintendo. But I am more FPS.

Really pushing hard on their customers ecosystem loyalty.

"Stay a while, staaaaaay forever."

(Topical gaming reference for the older gen there) :D

Damn, now I'm going to have to find a commodore 64 emulator and start collecting puzzle pieces. This is what they really meant by staaaaay forever. 35+ years and it's still not out of my system.

If you’re looking for a AAA first person shooter I wonder why you bought a Mac in the first place.

It's easier to text using iMessage on the mac than on a phone.

I do have a pretty nice windows gaming desktop. I wish Apple would take care of that need but I know they never will.

Not happening as long as touch interfaces remain the main input, or worse, AppleTV remotes... Fumbling with touch-sensitive controls in general will just never compare to a proper controller or mouse & keyboard.
The concept of a mouse and keyboard being optimal for anything outside of work is unsettling.

Game pad and major announcements incoming at WWDC.
I believe there is much that has not been shared. This even was a breadcrumbs event just leading up to the Developers Conference.

Glad I have an iPad Pro 10.5 on 10.3.3--I can still play Midway Arcade, the NOVAs, Duke Nukem, DOOM, etc.

Glad that to date, I have avoided all subscription services from Apple. Tim and Co. have gouged me enough. Premium cost for crap quality, and then they want to charge rent?! No thank you.

Personally I think it’s great Apple is financially backing indie developers to make interesting and unique games for my chosen platform that probably wouldn’t see the light of day otherwise. That is a GOOD thing.

Humble Bundle is $12/month for around 10 games including something AAA and a bunch of indie titles. They also include a "humble original" each month where humble funds a small indie developer to produce an "experimental" game to add to each month's bundle. That is a good model to promote the indie devs and provide a good service to customers. I've been a subscriber for a long time.

Steam has a huge marketplace of indie games as low as 50 cents and AAA games under $10 regularly.

Microsoft offers a monthly subscription plan to access a huge library of AAA xbox games.

Apple's own app store has tens of thousands of high quality premium (not freemium) games for under $10 to buy.

When this is what's already in the marketplace, who in their right mind would pay a subscription fee for this joke from Apple? A list of 100 cheesy indie games whose devs don't even think their games will sell on their own.

FWIW, I subscribe to Humble Bundle, drop about $200/year on steam, have an active world of warcraft account, and buy a decent number of games from Apple's app store. If I were remotely interested in console gaming, I'd have an XBox game pass, and I still am tempted to buy an XBone just to get the service. I will continue to shop freely in the app store, but I will almost certainly not be subscribing to apple arcade.
