No,it doesn't. iTunes Match is $24.99 to ONLY access songs you already own. Apple Music is $9.99 for songs you already own AND millions of songs you don't? All I'm saying is there has to be a difference in the "owned music" part of that or who would ever go for iTunes Match again at $15 more expensive for a lesser service?

You're comparing an annual fee to a monthly fee. It's $24.99 vs $119.88.

Pretty sure this service basically makes iTunes Match unnecessary, all your music will be in the cloud with the monthly membership. And the interface isn't the Beats Music interface, it's redesigned and looks like it has more in common with iTunes on the desktop and the Music app on iPhone.

Okay fine then match the price with iTunes Match why would anyone want to pay $99 year, $9.99 a month or Family Share $14.99 a month when simply $25 year is better. Why does iTunes Match current customers need to be left out with the new service when they can allow us to have the same access but for new customers they follow the new pricing.

So iTunes Match will upload your music to the cloud, scan what it can from the iTunes Store, and upgrade your music. If you stop paying, you lose the cloud feature, but the music you upgraded and downloaded is yours, forever.

The match function on Apple Music will allow you to upload your own music (not from the store as those are already in the cloud) and upgrade them, for free. But when you stop paying the upgrades go away and your original file remains. Difference is you won't keep the upgraded file forever.

Correct?

Apple's press release says 30 million in Apple Music. If someone knew for sure how many songs in the iTunes store, that would answer the question of whether all songs are included for streaming or not. Frankly if I was an artist selling songs, I would want the choice of participating in streaming or not. Have they told artists what the royalty rate for plays is yet?

No Beatles?

for 25 cents a day you get to play ANY song Apple has on iTunes as many times as you like.

Thanks to everyone pointing out my mathematical mistake in comparing a monthly to a yearly plan. I'm a muppet. Only had 3 hours sleep, waking up early to watch the Keynote isn't always a good idea. I wasn't thinking properly. :(;)

What does that mean? iTunes Match free for Apple Music users

AAC 256 kbps.

256 is certainly a disappointment, but I guess they could not cut the deal to do lossless.

Apple encoding often sounds ok even at 256, but it is not going to be certain for me to drop Spotify over this.

One other thing that will be important to me is what it will look like on screen. If it is white on white like the Itunes and the rest of Yosemite it may be an issue. I really love the dark look of the Spotify app both on OSX and iOS.

Usual haters on presenters, like most people on this forum could present in front of a worldwide audience with calm and poise a massive project that you worked on for years.

Anyway, Apple figured out that the most effective system of music discovery besides one's friends is radio and implemented tastemaker DJ's to serve up music with the human personality and touch that's worked since the 50's in promoting artists.

Yes this is HUGE in terms of the radio side. Zane Lowe is a fantastic DJ and his passion for music will ensure the quality will always be five star

You have up to 6 users on a family plan; I imagine it's no different than paid Spotify subscriptions which cut out if you try to play more than one device under the same account at the same time...

Is the are a device limit? I mean like streaming music on your iPhone and iPad at the same time. Spotify asks always on which device it should play. It is a bit annoying when i go to the gym and some likes to play some music with my iPad at home. (No i don't want a second account for these rare occasions). They don't mention it on apple.com.

People seem to be thinking that this subscription gives you access to the entire iTunes library. Where does it state that Apple Music contains all of iTunes?

With iTunes Radio, Apple Music, iTunes, iTunes Match, it's no wonder why today's presentation was such a mess. Their services are a mess.

On Apple's website! http://www.apple.com/music/discover/

For Apple Music members, the collection you own and love is just the beginning. Now you can also listen to the tens of millions of tracks in the Apple Music library. Our dedicated team of experts is here to help you find new music to love. Enjoy recommendations handpicked just for you or explore everything they find that’s new and noteworthy in the world of music. It’s all yours.

So you're saying that Apple Music contains all of iTunes, and this is proven because Apple's website states you can listen to millions of tracks on Apple Music? How does this statement relate to iTunes? Not sure I follow your logic here.

Did I see Android service coming this fall?! Hallelujah, the hell just froze over!
Be strong, my brothers in faith. The apocalypse seems near...

----

By the way, I assume from now on it also allowed for the app developers to mention Android in the services covered by their apps, without being rejected? Or is it still an act of heresy, which is to be punished?

That family pricing is pretty incredible. 14.99 for 6 people. That would cost $40 with Spotify since the only offer up to a 5 person plan for $30 so plus another person in a normal account would be $40. If Spotify matches they will be even less profitable. If they don't another reason why people will flee.

Would be nice if they offer a 'pretty' interface for migrating your playlists from Spotify to iTunes but that will probably be left up to third parties.

And if Spotify loses money with more expensive pricing, then how will Apple make a profit from their cheaper pricing? I don't think the streaming business model is sustainable for anyone.

Well, just checked out the Spotify Premium sub and the Google Music sub and here in the UK they are BOTH £10 a month, so I guess Apple Music will be the same? I think I would choose Apple Music or Google Music though, most likely Apple Music as I know they have a gigantic catalogue and it will be cross platform.
Well played Apple well played.

These are the features it offers along with unlimited skipping of tracks, I've highlighted the stand out features:

View artist feed on Connect
Follow artists on Connect
Listen to Beats 1 radio station
Listen to Apple Music radio stations
Unlimited skipping
Play and save Connect content

Like Connect content or radio songs
Enjoy unlimited listening from the Apple Music library
Add Apple Music content to your library

Uh, thanks, but again they state the "Apple Music library", which appears to be a separate thing from the "Apple iTunes library". Nowhere is it stated that these are the same.

I seriously doubt it's separate....

The iTunes music library has approx. 30 million songs.

For Apple Music members, the collection you own and love is just the beginning. Now you can also listen to the tens of millions of tracks in the Apple Music library.

30 Million songs....tens of millions of songs.....sure sounds like the same library to me.

It's not clear to me if there is a "Pandora" like mode where you can play music similar to artists or songs. All I know is Beats Music curation is horrible. I sure hope this isn't just rebranded Beats. Also, I didn't see what becomes of current Beats subscribers. Are we automatically enrolled into this service, with 3 free months I would hope? Otherwise I need to cancel Beats.

With all this iTunes Match vs Apple Music talk, this seems to clarify something:

Screen Shot 2015-06-08 at 5.43.47 PM.png

It looks like this is basically iTunes Match and then some. It does all the music matching plus giving access to streaming of music you DONT own, plus all the radio stuff.

another me too Music service. There is really nothing to see here, move along. Maybe it will succeed but who knows and who cares. There are a bunch of good services out there, so this one uncalled for.

I bet iTunes match will stop being independent and merge with Apple Music.
