i have an iPad mini grandfathered into the att unlimited data plan. I love the iOS. But I never listened to apple's music streaming app. I always preferred Pandora when I wanted random jukebox and Spotify for when I wanted to listen to a specific artist or song. I doubt apple's rebranded Beats streaming service will entice me away. Pandora & Spotify are free. Why would I pay apple $9.99 a month? I know Apple tried to put pressure on the record labels to stop freemium streaming. Boo Apple! I'll try the free trial, but I Think I will stick to Pandora & Spotify on my iPad. Not only because they are free, but I like their interface better than apples current streaming service.

If you do the research, then you'll find the answers to most of your questions. If you pay, you're paying to stream all the music from the iTunes catalog. If you don't pay you still get access to the radio, it's just not called iTunes Radio anymore.

So you're saying that Apple Music contains all of iTunes, and this is proven because Apple's website states you can listen to millions of tracks on Apple Music? How does this statement relate to iTunes? Not sure I follow your logic here.
I agree with you, I do not think that the Apple Music Library and Itunes Library are the same. Not all Artists that put their music for sale in Itunes would want it streamed on Apple music. There would have to be different agreements with the Artists.

You have up to 6 users on a family plan; I imagine it's no different than paid Spotify subscriptions which cut out if you try to play more than one device under the same account at the same time...

I'm afraid that your are probably right. I was too optimistic about statements like "One membership for all your devices". And Apple has bundled the family subscription to the family sharing of IDs, which i don't like. Still preferring to use one ID for purchases and and three separate IDs for iCloud etc. I have to try it out. I can't wait to get rid of Spotifys buggy App with its ugly UI.

i secretly hope that Apple would charge 25 per month for this service, way to let people know unless 1) we want to play to you 2) for you, 3) with you, or 4) you happened to be in the same room as I am playing, no one should expect to hear music for free. This is the attitude why companies pay bands with "exposure" and "free meal" instead of cash

No,it doesn't. iTunes Match is $24.99 to ONLY access songs you already own. Apple Music is $9.99 for songs you already own AND millions of songs you don't? All I'm saying is there has to be a difference in the "owned music" part of that or who would ever go for iTunes Match again at $15 more expensive for a lesser service?
Um... iTunes Match is $24.99 a YEAR. Apple Music is $9.99 a MONTH. It's significantly more expensive than Match for a full year... essentially if you only want the iTunes Match features you pay for that. If you also want unlimited streaming you can use Apple Music and it has both.

Yeah, scroll back. I addressed this a few posts back. Basically I was a tired muppet

Have to agree with something someone said a while back - the "listen to Apple Music Radio Stations" option seems to be free in U.S. but only available as part of the (as yet unpriced) paid plan here in UK. Makes me wonder how different the size of the available Music Libraries will be between countries.

Beats 1 and other Apple Music stations are free in the U.S. They don't require a subscription, only an AppleID.

In other countries, the deal is different. In Canada you get Beats 1 but not other Apple Music stations.

Ok,

Time for a simple summary.

People have asked about the utility of iTunes Match on top of the monthly Sub since the sub includes match like features; whether you can export your saves to non-iOS devices; whether a large existing collection is wasted money compared to a new collector; and whether you can bequeath your collection.

1. As some finally pointed out, if you stop the Sub, then the saved content disappears, and that’s when Match kicks in to keep it. Whether it's executed via DRM or some new tagging system, that's how it is.
Best option to save money
would be a Family sub on a MONTHLY optional basis, with Match as your fallback.
As in, 3 months free to save up to
your limit, Match it, and then Sub when you feel like it month to month thereafter.

Match can also upload lossless, and Radio will be ad free (whether Sub will be limited here is TBC).

2. Purchases or Match may allow you to export/sync to non-iOS devices. I may reserve confirmation on this; if DRM is used, then Match will not export.

3. I have around 28K songs, with around 5K songs purchased, and have faithfully checked sales weekly and free songs since 2003 (
and stopping CD purchases). A lot of songs lost over the last 2 decades for various reasons. Match allowed a lot of compensation, but also on initial upload, losing around 600 songs (stuck on greyed out waiting). Collectors have the advantage of not losing/owning if they want to stop the Sub. New collectors who stop the Sub do not have that advantage, so Match would be a wise investment for them.
While it seems they have an investment advantage, we have the advantage in terms of OOP (out of print content).

4. If you want to pass on your collection (Purchases, ongoing Sub or Match), simply rename the ID and give your password to your inheritor.

5. Personalised Radio seems to be a paid option in some countries which are not licensed. And you can build your own stations still.

6. "As an Apple Music member you can add anything from the Apple Music library — a song, an album, or a video — to your collection." Match does not do video (normally), but HD music video is a big upgrade.

7. Connect allows a one stop location for
everything music related. The only thing missing are concert movies.

What will I be doing?
No more purchases; free Sub via Family Share at $3 per ACTIVE month; keep Match.
Enjoy the CONNECT features.

The new Music app sucks. They're not even trying. What a botched launch...
And what is this obsession with recommendations and discovery playlists etc?!

another me too Music service. There is really nothing to see here, move along. Maybe it will succeed but who knows and who cares. There are a bunch of good services out there, so this one uncalled for.
You could have that same mentality about the vast majority of things Apple does... they're rarely the first out of the gate, but they are often the ones to expose new technologies to a wider audience. If you don't care, fair enough. I do, and I'm likely to switch from Spotify because the new service is more appealing to me.

I'd like to try out the family sharing $14.99/mo but currently me and my wife have separate apple IDs. We have shared calendars and a few shared reminder lists. I want that to remain in place.

So take me through establishing the family sharing ID thingy...

Considering that you haven't used the new music app yet, I'd say that would be hard to judge.

Huh? When did they say anything like that.
Now, I would assume that for $10 per month but I also would think they would have screamed it from the rooftops, but not one word.

Actually they did. Go back and rewatch the keynote and start it right where Cue starts talking about Apple Music (it's at the 115:00 mark).

He explicitly states "But now you can search and stream the millions and millions of songs that we have on iTunes". He then goes on to say again that you can search and stream any song you want.

Great.. so with family basically 15.00 a month, not to mention the AT&T overage charges for streaming music (Cause lets face it, you will stream when you are not at home on Wi-Fi - Most likely in car) so that means the 3GB plan will have to be increased. So assume another 10.00 or more per GB.. so have to go to a 10GB plan.. essentially that's like 20+ songs a month if you just buy them. Will try it, but will just pay the 1.29 per song... not broken.. don't fix it. :)
